Yes Cowburn is still on a Youth contract.

Seriously by this time next week I would be expecting a couple new signings to have been announced at the very least!

I love joel griffo as much as anyone but if we had to sign either joel or ryan who would you choose?
Joel will be 36 coming off a knee recon. Would play central with the players we already have.
Or ryan 34 and scored 15 in about 30 games in malaysia. Prob battle with Carney for LW. Id go ryan.
As i said would be a good LW backup. Both on little coin. Give us more $$ for quality signings.

For me, the big thing with signing those two is a mentality. Both love Newcastle and both I believe have come out saying its Newy or nothing. Having two boys with that mentality to teach the other guys we sign and the guys we have to appreciate the shirt and the fans is a huge positive
Both are versatile up front and have also come out saying they'd play for little coin which is another positive considering we need players and don't have a whole lotta coin
Who's more useful, Ryan's been more active which is a benefit and isn't coming off knee surgery, so probably him. But, we never saw how well Joel really could go last season due to being played in right mid instead of a wing or striker. Ryan's the best signing but both should be signed

Joel has said he will play for free, ffs. Obviously he can't because the CBA has a minimum salary but sign him up for that and be done with it.

Honestly, I love Joel f$&king Griffiths and the passion he has shown for this club. To a lesser extent I respect Ryan griff as an esteemed former player. Seriously it's time to move on. We can't keep going around in circles. A squad needs to be built for the next few years, not just year to year contracts for past their best players.
By all means bring Joel griff in in January if he has recovered form his acl injury and we badly need an experienced striker but I would hope at this stage we are aiming higher in the striker department.

I agree too it is time to move on, but if we cant get anyone better for similar $$ id take ryan.
The question was IF we had to chose from the two

Wouldn't be that CBA that has now ran out as of 30th June, clearly this is Griff's work so he can return for free, hail Griff!

So the Herald is saying we have 9 spots and $800,000 to spend.

Unless we manage to entice some quality on loan, the salary cap leaves us with not a lot to play with. I was hoping that the bulk of the starting 11 would come from the new signings, but it seems there is sweet FA space to move in the cap to bring in a 4-5 solid players. Will be interesting to see how miller manages this, but it really looks like we need to use the both Marquee spots, but FFA say they aren't going to do that.

Barresi and Lundy were both contracted until the end of the 15/16 season on full time NYL contracts. So if they were offered the same contracts, they SHOULD be still on those contracts.

And the squad size limit is 26, if you use all 3 NYL contracts.

Lundy I'm not sure if he has re-signed.

Potentially because the NYL contracts are 2 year deals, and our former contracts were considered null&void, maybe we couldn't re-sign Barresi and Lundy under NYL contracts?

Anyway, we currently have 13 contracted players, or 14 if Lundy is back on board. We still have 12 or 13 spots available, if we use all 3 of our NYL contracts.
    OK

Well clearly you don't love Joel as much as anyone due to the fact you even posed this question.

    But I'll humour you anyway.

    Joel (the one true Griff):
    Born in Newcastle.
Played his entire career in Newcastle.
Averaged exactly 1 goal per game during his career.
Scored the winner in the Grand Final.

    Ryan:
    Born in Wyong.
Is not actually related to Joel. He is adopted (real name Ryan Berkowitz).
    Walked out on our club.
    Promotes shitty t-shirts.
    Never scored for Jets.
Photographed sitting next to Middleby at a game.

    Yeah, there's your answer cuz.
