Players who react like swancott does , only Spurs the banterers on more, at stags v Wallsend couple of weeks ago, hodgo was copping it from the stags faithful, only to start joining in on the light hearted humour, and giving it back, poor sledgers were loving it and had to turn their attention to gazz who wasn't as receptive as hodgo haha ..

Back to the action on the park.

    These semi 2 legged affairs.

Does the standard away goals rule ala UCL apply or is it the other method where away goals make no difference and if scores level on aggregate after 2 legs FT then onto extra time pens to find a winner??

Away goals only count if the aggregate score after the two legs is equal... e.g. Magic vs Edgy 3-3 first leg... if second leg is 1-1 or 2-2; Edgy go through on away goals... if 3-3 then extra time will be played... if 4-4 Magic go through... But if either Magic or edgy win the second leg away goals don't matter.

So we are playing the standard away goals rules found in UCL and not the way done in the Football League playoffs

    Ok

    Yes, away goals rule applies.

Football League playoffs don't use away goals rule in any way.

I personally love the away goals rule, I think it's perfect for a 2leg match at any level.

    I would disagree.

So many times a 2 legged affair is killed and remains dead as soon as one side gets the good advantage with away goals.

eg a team wins 1-0 at home and then jags an away goal early in return affair and it is all but over as for a contest.

The way the Football League does it I like more. Aggregate is all that matters and you don't see teams park bus cause they are away from home

I would say that I'm in favour of just a total aggregate. From all the semi final games I've played with the away goal, I hardly see any advantage in playing at "home", especially considering most apart from the 1st grade aren't actually playing at home/away. In Europe I can see how playing at home provides an advantage, with much bigger crowds etc. But in Aus it really isn't that different to play away from home.

I agree it doesn't make sense for Newy lower grades who probably don't have a home game as the host is dictated by first grade usually.

MFKFC - in your hypothetical scenario, imagining away goals doesn't apply, the opposition needs to score at least 2 goals to stay in the game anyway. They'll need to score at least 3 to outright win it, or 2 to drag it to penalties. Either way, they need to attack. Away goals rule throws an entirely different element that I love.
    OK

So you're saying that a team who is in the box seat might protect their lead?

The lower grades over the past few years at Suburbs in ZL1 have played their away semi final at home due to finishing 3rd and 1st grade finishing 2nd.

So we got the advantage of the away goal rule in our own backyard. (It matter in the end anyway though)

This is an unfair comment, it makes too much sense.
Maybe we should let MFKS decide what the rules should be, first goal wins, aggregate score, so if no team scores over the two legs, you play into the next week, or just keep playing week after week until some team scores.

I always wonder every year why 19s and 22s NPL don't have extra time they just go straight to shootouts but an under 13 H great game has extra time...

Now that he has driven Stubbins out of town he has time on his hands for this role.

Same as Zone League turds and reggies. It's quite annoying.

For those interested, Hamilton beat Magic 2-1 in the 19's. Fast paced, physical match that was great to watch.
