LION-HEARTED Jets attacker Labinot Haliti is set to miss the game against Melbourne Victory at Hunter Stadium on Friday and could face much longer on the sidelines.
Haliti limped off with a knee injury early in the 1-0 loss to Sydney FC at home on Saturday night.
Initially, coach Scott Miller was confident the problem was not structural.
But the 29-year-old had scans on Monday and was sent for more on Tuesday, raising concerns the damage is more severe than anticipated.
In a further blow, left fullback Lee Ki-je is still on the mend from a hamstring complaint and will not be risked against the A-League champions.
On the flipside, captain Nigel Boogaard returns from suspension and teenage defender Lachlan Jackson has recovered from a quad injury and will come into contention as cover for Lee.
But with only 21 players on the roster and Andy Brennan not at full fitness, it will be another test of the Jets’ depth.
Milos Trifunovic is the only other recognised No.9 in the squad. Radovan Pavicevic, 20, and 19-year-old Brandon Lundy, who replaced Haliti against Sydney, have played at the point of the attack in youth league.
Haliti, in his third spell at the Jets, was the leading scorer in the pre-season. However, he was relegated to the bench for the season opener behind Serbian Trifunovic. Haliti, who can play anywhere across the front four, started on the left wing against Sydney when David Carney dropped to left back to deputise for Lee.

I'd prefer this:
Watson - solid defensively/ don't want him going forward and allows Carney to focus on creating stuff - keeping Lundy and other weak links on the bench.
No way Birra will play - too much of a risk of re-opening stitches and needing a sub.
