We definitely shouldn't be exposing them to the pace and strength of the A-League in the hope of blooding them early to be the next big thing at our club, the Socceroos and eventually heading OS..

Other clubs don't do that at all. And it never works.

Only good players start getting bench time after 25.

By all means we are allowed to sign a LB and make Cowburn backup, with the option of him playing in the middle, but we still need to sign either a starter from another team who would demand better money, or a backup from somewhere else who would probably be of similar level to Cowburn. Not as simple as just go to the store and pick someone better than Cowburn and throw him on the pitch.

Does anyone know who Caio De Godoy is? Another Australian U20 defender on our books according to Wiki.
Alessi plays CB and RB, has started games for the Wanderers since he was 16 and captain of the Aus U20 team.

There is no better U20 player available we could sign.

The old saying goes "if they're good enough they're old enough"... However if they aren't good enough then you will ruin their career pretty quickly by throwing them into the deep end and expecting results straight away.

Once Birraz officially leaves won't we have 5 spots left to fill considering Miller wants a 21 man team?

Realistically that'd be used on two wingers and then the 3 u/20's. Spot wise we need a RB, that's where you'd have Alessi. Another midfield cover, which I believe Pawiak can fill since he's u/20 but if not him then someone who can play through the midfield and a goalkeeper

I'd also say we should get rid of Brennan & Pav who aren't a-league standard players and get some better young attacking players in the off-season. If you were to do that, you could make the attacking player u/20 and sign a back-up goalkeeper of any age which I feel would be a better choice

I not want to shit Pan the kid but I ain't convinced he is a HAL player in the making anyway.

He has some qualities that you f harnessed well could see him make it but I doubt the blokes running the EJ can turn him into anything more than an NPL player

Physically at 17 I reckon he has the body to handle it as he is a naturally big kid. Ability wise he though is a bit off the pace just now

Losing Brennan and Pav won't allow us to spend elsewhere. They are min wage players who will need to be replaced. At best we save 50k going to a 20man squad. Doubt they will go anywhere considering Brennan already knocked back one push out the door.

Take your point on the goalkeeper but not sure an older goalkeeper is necessarily a better choice. Liam Reddy maybe. If the ownership was resolved and we had additional funds, Danny Ireland would qualify as a mature age rookie (4 years prior in NPL) which is outside the cap.

So considering the players we know are on contract, the goalkeeper will be an U20. As Miller has stated he is looking to lure young Australian players currently overseas back, players like Oliver Pain (Crystal Palace) and Dominic Kurasik (Stoke) are off contract and can't crack a start at U21 level, having just gone up from U18. These players are possible recruits.

Another U20 I would like to see us go for, like we did with Ugarkovic, is Ivan Vujica at Dynamo Zagreb (u19). He has six caps at u19 for Croatia but holds dual citizenship and was born in Sydney.

So why are we advocating a 20 man squad for anyway??

Seems a bit thin on the ground number wise.

That means we have 16 in the match day squad every week.anyway so only 4 left out every week

Not leave much flexibility when injuries occur and Boogz Kanta and co are suspended

Didn't we suffer enough this season when we had no striker on the bench and most weeks early on we had 2-3 kids on the bench??

As always (well nearly always) old mate you make too much sense!

You add injuries to the equation too, last year Labi missed the whole season and Mullen also missed a few games, as mentioned you also have a couple of suspensions and you are having to blood youth team players who aren't ready yet.

Would be a great a-league player, but another midfielder though? Who do u release in that case?

I just realised my comment came across as sarcastic, it wasn't meant to be. I agree with completely that he's too young to be worrying about sitting on the bench each week at a HAL team. He needs to be playing every week. He's barely even through puberty, if he was slaying the NPL like a demon maybe give him a chance but no point at this stage.

    Carry on.

Miller has been on record as 21 squad size. If you are spending the cap floor then 20/21 is the right way to go. Hopefully Ledman opens up the purse strings

I thought the talk of a 20 man squad was intended to leave space for after the new overlords take charge.

So i actually think he is going to sign another 4-5 Aussies, including 3 U20s and then leave the visa spots for after the new owners take charge. Well, that's what i read out of the initial article comments. Scouting his connections for some players to put forward to his new owners for the attacking players on marquee wages and spend the rest of the cap on off contract Aussies and guys like those that Borat mentioned, talented young guys not quite breaking into European teams.

Would be a handy pick up, however signing another midfielder would certainly mean no chance of the return of Jimmy.

With new owners surely we'll take advantage of the concessions available. Eg 50% of bks salary and 25% of kantas salary will be except up to 200k.
Then cowburns and pavicevic's salary will be except up to 150k.

Not sure how he is now but when he was on fringe of national team he was up to a standard that will dominate the A-league... Id be happy if we got him!

    GK - BK / #####
    RB - Hoff / Alessi?
    CB - Mullen / (Kanta)
    CB - Boogs / Jackson
    LB - ##### / Cowbie
    CM - Ugar / Kanta
    CM - Poljak / (Cowbie)
    RW - ##### / Pav
    LW - ##### / Bren
    CAM - Brown / Labi / Cooper
    ST - Morty / Clut

    5 minimum spots left

    GK
    RW
    LW
    Possibly Alessi

Last spot has to be a LB, Cowbie then provides coverage in CM with Kanta providing the coverage at CB.
