    Again!?

I wonder if he'd come in under the "non-professional" or AKA the NPL player exemption?

Would be wasting a spot if he signs without someone leaving, still need 1 more u/20 and hopefully the last 2 spots would go to quality attacking players.

    I agree..
Could he potentially be taking Mitch Coopers spot, if he is apparently on the outer??

I would have Chianese over Nabbout. Chianese can use both feet quite capably.

Surprised he would want to play with us.

Remember after an NYL game some dickhead in the crowd had something to say to him and the nature of it was disparaging to his ethnic back ground.

Mckinna in the Herald on record we are signing 2 Visas, but one is now going to be a development player from China. Which will smooth the way for a major sponsor.

Not sure how happy I am but I guess the long term viability of the club comes first. Would be happy if the sponsorship paid the way for a high profile guest player.

This means the only way Nabbout could be signed is if someone leaves.

I guess it depends what is considered a "development player" Song for example was great for us, he was here at a youngish age to develop his game to move to Europe. There are plenty of great 20 - 21 year olds we could sign from Asia.
And if it means we have more money to put towards the other Visa player, it might not be a terrible thing!

Expect a few whingers but we had to expect this in return for financial stability.

I have always been surprised at the lack of Asian players in our league.

Not sure young Chinese players are as technically advanced as are young koreans or young Japaneses...

Like any player in this squad, they won't be signed to a long term contract. I'd suggest given the importance on a Visa player they will be signed for 1 year.

If it's for two and they turn out to be a great prospect we would get a transfer fee for them, just like any player.

And realistically, if they didn't work out it wouldn't be any different to many of the league's Visa spots. For example, how often did the Roar see Polenz and Solórzano last year? Hughes for City? Rodriguez for Nix? faty for Sydney?

We normally have a 4 out of 5 success rate.

A couple of key quotes from the article:

“He needs to be able to play a part in the team this year,” McKinna said. “There is no good just signing someone for the sake of it. He has to be good enough to compete for a position.”

McKinna said they have had talks with clubs about potential loan deals and were most likely to target players who play in wide areas.

“That would be the easiest transition,” McKinna said.

McKinna said if the Jets can find the right player in China, it would free up more funds for Miller to spend on the other import.

Stability or being sold down the river??

If the bloke is good enough no one will give a **** where he is from

If he is worse than we have and worse than the EJ program can provide them Ledman deserves all the shit that will come his way for it

Whoever it is would still be required to get a work visa, no? It's not like we can just go "here is Chinese Bloke, right winger with no legs or arms" and he will get a clearance, right?

Im ok with it as long as it means the striker we sign up as the other visa is a step up to what we are used to.
Lets hope for a song type acquisition.

    This

Combine that with a local league that drastically overpays players. I have real doubts about this as its at odds with Lee's desire to make top 3. Your Visa players are what makes or breaks your squad. And as we know our squad is not up to scratch with the rest of the league. We were relying on these Visa Players to lift the quality of the playing group and in my opinion we don't have the room for a development Visa player.

Remember Miller left these 2 positions aside until the playing budget was known. I doubt he expected to effectively lose one to a development player.

Lee should offset signing the development player by using some of this sponsorship to secure a year long guest player who can be an additional Visa player. Then everyone wins.
