Yet we still manage premierships and grand final wins despite all the supposed MVP's leaving. Unfortunately tough calls need to be made when there are age gaps in the divisions. Compounding the matter is parents who are obviously deep throating opposition coaches to get their sons playing up the age grades. Never ceases to make me laugh when a player is promised 22's/Firsts and comes up playing against our U19's when he would have been playing in our U19's at the start and transition to U22's during the year. But i suppose it makes the coaches jobs easier, you are in or you are not, there is no middle ground.
This years 20's is exclusively Magic, no imports Youth progression paying off and Johnny Bennis back to coach them.
We have made some big signings n the past but some of them have been our youth players which were selected into the Jets program and returning to Magic, eventually like Mikey Kanta, Kale. No other NPL clubs have players moving from Senior grades to the Jets like Magic does, yeah the occasional training session, but thats just to make the numbers. We have tried a few keepers in that time but it is a specialist position and you get that, Bowlo is a tough personality to replace.
I can see a few Jets players from this season playing NPL when their current A-league contracts expire.
I thought promising the youth players they could play up an age, only to be told to play in the younger age as well was why so many left. Didn't last years 19s have at least 6 players playing regularly in 17s?
Either way they keep on leaving which will really stuff up any player point system over the next few years.
Yes many of the 17 year old players in the U19's helped out the U17 squad at the start of the season as it was decimated by injuries in preseason and the U15's werent ready yet to make the step up. Many of those U17 year olds would then go on to star for the U22's in the premiership winning season, and to their credit many U15's developed the confidence to step up into the U17's as the year progressed.
Magic has a policy of only signing 14 players per yth squad so playing up/down occurs frequently.
Firstly, no kid is a certain First Grader until they have established themselves as a first grade starter, that occurs through hardwork, patience, determination and an insighful headcoach. No one can predict which kid at 15-18 will be a first grader and you will be lucky if 2 per grade that come through will ever make it to regular starter status at any club. To predict that kids will be "certain first graders" is the kind of ignorant thinking of a parent skiing with the head coach and assistants johnsons in hand. Kids priorities change; they start going out, the competition is too fierce and they lack the mental resilience to battle it out (primarily by being over inflated by youth coaches and parents), and the system is against the kid age penalty to the pps should have stayed in some part.
Which "certain first graders" are you refering to? Magic U19's player Pat Langois was the only NPL player to get offered a Yth contract in 2016 is obviously playing for the Jets in NPL 2017.
Edgy 5 belswans 1
South Cardiff vs Valentine @ Evans Park, Cardiff
1st: Valo 2 - Southy 1
U23/U20: Southy 2 - Valo 0
Not sure about other grades.
All results today were:
Southy v Valo
1st: Valo 2-1
23's v 20's: Southy 2-0
19's v 18's: Draw 1-1
17's v 16's: Draw 1-1
Belswans v Edgy:
1st: Edgy 5-1
23's v 20's: Edgy 3-0
19's v 18's: Edgy 3-0
17's v 16's: Draw 1-1
Wasn't at either but was told Belswans looked decent against Edgy but quality and fitness obviously would have ran riot towards the end. Fairly tight result in Southy v Valo. Don't know much about either side so can't comment too much but guessing Southy wouldn't be too disheartened to have that result against NPL opposition.
Not much promoted about it but Lakes playing Singo in 1st on Tuesday night at Macquarie Field.
Anyone know times of kick off for Adamstown today??
i went to watch this game,
st george won 2 - 1
St geoges first goal was a decent individual goal, second was a **** up from the back which lead to a open goal but with a solid strike to finish.
but adamstown looked pretty structured under guinno, a lot of young kids i dont know, but the ones i know of were,
Berlin, rob Turnbull, justin tannock, alex read , jordan harrison, paul bitz , stuey musalik
what was good to see though was stuey got a good hit out. still shows some class... love ya stu..
Adamstown goal came from good lead up play which lead to berlin to crack one with his left then got tipped to bar for some you kid to tap in..
also a bit of push and shoves second half from st george, good to see atown boys give it back twice as hard.
