They have gone into this with a broadcasted plan and have stuck to it so far.

Let's just hope they don't let the coach go a full season without review, like Lawrie confirmed Jones had with his "never under the microscope" comment.

As far as credentials go, a former premiership and championship winning coach isn't too bad imo
    What you mean review??

How about we actually just allow Merrick the stability and show some faith that he knows what he doing??

    I couldn't give a **** if we finish last next season ??

Is that a reflection on Bert?? No

It just showing how ****ed we are and how deep the hole is.

Yeah you have completely missed the point and I said nothing about rookies.

When the Jets have a coaching appointment it's always down to the select group of recycled HAL coaches like Merrick, Mckinna or even Kosmina, or assistants like Jones or Stubbins.........yet our direct opposition are able to consider better credentialed more successful coaches from overseas.

It would be one thing if we even looked or were out bid. But we don't.

How do you know we didn't look? Or that we made an offer but they refused?

We aren't professional and competent but it's something to aspire to if we ever want to be competitive

We were heavily linked with Steve Kean as one of the final options. We didn't just limit ourselves to the A-League.

    I don't.

But what I do know is we were open to the press on a number of candidates and these names were not mentioned, despite going through recruitment processes with other clubs either at the same time or shortly after.

I also don't beleive in recruitment processes where you appoint you mates, which we are 2 for 2 now.

I say this but am still hopeful that Ernie is successful. I just wish we had a professional CEO to run the club.

Because Kean or his manager contacted the club. I don't beleive we actively went looking or have the ability to do so.

It's interesting that Kean wasn't successful considering what he achieved wiith O'Donnovan.

But as an employer with a vacancy, you have applicants come to you. Unless the employer wants to poach someone specifically.

    I'm confused about this discussion.

I would suggest that most coaching appointments utilise agents/managers/intermediaries,just like for players. As in the Nix start by talking to contacts and agents looking for coaches who might be open to Australia with specific credentials.

Not too dissimilar to recruitment agencies head hunting candidates. Many professions employ predominantly this way.

Even if you example was correct then the point remains that the Jets are then an unattractive option over our direct rivals who finished 7th and 8th last season.

We, the Jets, seem to take the cheaper option and rely on direct approaches

I'm happy that for this appointment at least, we have played safe - there have been too many mistakes the last few years to have another "punt". Those mistakes have made us risk averse. Not Ernie's fault. I would hope for two years of stability at least before we get adventurous again.

Fox Sports bagged us for being boring with Ernie - but felt we should have given a young local coach like Rudan a go, not go overseas. Some don't listen.

You are right. Could well be who we sign. Not very hopeful they will be any more than squad filler though.

Rudan needs to man up and get an assistants gig in the a-league rather than just expect to jump straight into the top job

seems like the fastest way to a coaches job in the a-league is to be the assistant at the jets.

McKinna on NBN stated we should all "get excited" about a signing this week. Petratos was mentioned but I read it as an addition to this. Milligan and Burns names were mentioned. Seemed a lot more keen on a marquee. Also said we may not need to use all visas if we find the right Aussies. Can't help think of Burns again..
