Brisbane Roar midfielder Thomas Broich is free to play in Sunday’s A-League match against Western Sydney after having his red card for violent conduct rescinded by the independent Match Review Panel.
Brisbane appealed the decision to Football Federation Australia on the basis that it's issue was an "obvious error" from match referee Brenton Hayward.
Broich was shown a straight red card on 44 minutes after an altercation with Newcastle Jets' midfielder Josh Mitchell in the
Roar's 1-0 victory at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
Roar General Manager Sean Dobson said the club was confident the red card would be rescinded, leaving Broich free to play the weekend’s vital
A-League clash in Sydney.
“We’re delighted the MRP has rescinded the red card shown to Thomas in Saturday’s match," Dobson said.
“Referees have a very difficult job and just like many of us they will, from time to time, make a mistake.
“The MRP is in place to look at these instances and, in our opinion, they have made the right decision in this case.
“We’re now looking forward to another important match on Sunday against Western Sydney Wanderers.”
