Firstly, I said he didn't do anything wrong. What he did was basic satirical cartoon drawing. He accentuated her strong physical frame and drew her as a bit of a savage, typical cartoonist style. He didn't do it to be racist, he did it because that is how cartoons work when you are trying to grab headlines. I'm ok with him and his drawing, but i'm also ok with a few people questioning his intentions to make sure this wasn't the tip of a big ol' raceberg. (read:racist iceberg) It will blow over in a day or two.
Secondly, Australia is very racist. We just don't have guns and can't make a race war out of it. We have a huge amount of politicians who promote anti-muslim propaganda as well as keeping aboriginal problems as far away from discussion as possible. Then add in the Alan Jones of this country who wish we all lived in the good old days before inflation and the improvements of the middle class.
My mum is a racist, my in laws have said some bad things in conversation. My brother in law was sprouting crap the other week about Muslims taking over Christianity in the next decade. As soon as I googled the 'facts' he told me and they were easily proven wrong, we had a long discussion about believing what you read on facebook and fact checking. He is a smart guy and a good, caring person. But we are too lazy to fact check and too isolated from the rest of the world to have any real clue what's going on.
Imagine if we had to deal with something like the Syrian Refugee situation in Europe, or the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. A larger proportion of Aussie's would be more worried about them stealing the tiny amount of land we have left than actually helping. Not the majority, but certainly a lot of people would be terrified of those refugees without knowing why.

I'm citing 'Australia being racist' as in we have different policies for different colours, we have different wage structures for immigrants etc. From what I see, if you're an 'aussie' then you're on about as level a playing field as there is internationally.
You brought up a lot of religious based points. Again, I'm not talking about religion, and as far as the govt is concerned our laws trump any religious rights (I think). So again, our system is fair, but yeah for sure there are bigots.
As for the refugee crisis etc, well isn't it a good thing that we live in a country that looks after its folks, provides health care aged care etc to help the needy that we dont feel the need to fear our govt* and they dont have the power to make us live in fear.
By all means we should look after others in need but 250 years ago we were a bunch of I digenous folk living off the land, now we have x-boxs, beer and porn. And WE BUILT THAT SHIT!!!!!!
Australia is a tops country. Not without fault, but geez I'd love to know where all these people ashamed of being here would rather be.

I think I get where you're coming from. As a country we aren't set up to persecute based on race. You get the same health care, pay the same taxes and have to watch the same terrible tv.
But, as a people, I do think we are up there with Americans in the racism game. That said, I think racism is a terrible by-product of being uniformed and opinionated. So the problem is more that we are stupid than just racist. The Cronulla Riots are about as close we can get to actual civil fighting in this country anyway so we can't really compete when it comes to the affects of racism compared to the US. We are pretty soft when it comes to actual anger/fighting in this country (which is a good thing), we just bitch and moan on TV until something better comes along.
I don't know the numbers but I reckon more Americans would be shot by their animals than Aussies are shot by gang members / violent criminals. Hence why the race problems over there are so violent and in your face.

I give you a couple of examples how Thailand is similar
In Thailand a foreigner cant buy land. or a house
You can pay for it but put it in your Thai partners name
The only thing a foreigner can buy in your name is a condo.
In Australia it is a free for all with lets just look at the Chinese as one group investing heavily in housing and land purchase
Now if the Australian government enacted a policy similasr to the Thais what would the reaction be from the vocal outraged snowflakes in this country??
In Thailand they have a two price structure.
You want to go see eg Thai Royal Palace in Bangkok and it has two admission prices
One dirt cheap price for the local citizens
One much more expensive price for foreigners
Should hear some of the foreigners blow a fuse over that policy
You try bringing a policy in like that where say entry into say Opera House is free for Skips and pay for entry for foreigners and see what the response is
Both examples show the locals looking after themselves as they really should be doing
Problem is here we are that insecure about our own National identity and being patriotic about Australia we are too worried about offending people

Teh Australian society is institutionally set up with different policies for white Australians as it is for black Australians
You just look at the policies in place of government departments to assist the black Australians in getting over some of the perceived short comings that disadvantage them in life
Not gonna get into this one with you. Those policies end up saving you and I money in the long term.
I not interested in debating these policies in specific either but the reality is that they are there whether rightly or wrongly
Our government continues to recognise both white and black Australians seperately rather than just classing us all as Australians and going from there
As a result we have divisiveness inflicted upon us from the government before the media even puts their spin and agenda into the equation

With all the debate about changing the Australian flag to something more inclusive. .........has anyone ever asked if the indigenous folk are ready to give up their flag too?
Because if we're all gonna come together and kick out the past (namely the union jack) then 'everyone' gotta start fresh no?
HECS doesn't work. It pretty much makes education relatively more expensive for people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

I don't even think the entire indigenous community wants to change the flag. I think that's more of an conversation starter for some people to get to the issues they actually want changed. They want to be acknowledged as the first Australians, the flag is just a way of getting the topic discussed by the media to continue their arguments.
They want to national anthem changed where they say we are young and free to something other than young. Because we have some of the oldest signs of early humans.
They want the curriculum changed so that Australia didn't start the day that Cook got here.
They want Australia changed from Aus 26th. (It should be the 1st of January when we signed the constitution but that doesn't suit the holiday makers so they keep as the day Cook Arrived.)
This is the basic stuff that I seem to see people calmly discussing. The land stuff and other points I don't pay attention to.

But you are forgetting the principle that these free hand outs to all these disadvantaged groups actually achieve little as all it does is reinforce some form of entitlement that people actually should constantly be given something
Go see how the people in the world live when they dont have these hand outs
They dont work they dont eat etc
So they get off their arse and get a job
Compare that to Bazza and Shazza Bogan out there who are quite happy being dole bludgers spitting out kids and stealing doing drugs etc

As for the racist country debate, I think Frodo pretty much covers my view fairly well. The "country" as such is fairly good, but there are a looot of people inside that country who are very racist still.
The only shame that needs to be dished out is to the parents who are clearly using their kid as a prop to get some sort of recognition.
Just go check it the dad especially. Hes a legit piece of work.
Anyway they can all enjoy their 15 mins then turn up on celebrity big brother in a few years time with Corey the party boy.
