Bridges just needs to retire into a full-time staff role already. Will work out best for everyone (and I mean that genuinely, he would be a huge asset to have at the club as a staff member).

The only way I can see him breaking into the team at the moment is if two of our strikers (say Heskey and Taggart) were to pick up injuries at the same time.

    Agree 100%
Pascoe and to a lesser extent Zane are too involved with Hunter Sports High.....you can't wear two hats.
The Jets Youth coach should be 100% committed to the Jets and have a strong relationship with the coaches who are bringing the younger players through in the Jets Emerging Programs. Apart from Heskey there would be no one in the club who has a better knowledge of the game than Bridges.....perfect fit.

Bridges really is the ideal bloke for one of the emerging jets positions, heap of experience overseas and in Australia, is settled with the family in newy and is isolated from any perceived or real external influences around NNSW.

Also get him to coach the W-League team too, and get rid of that useless coastie stinking up NNSW & the w-league.

Actually I guess thats not possible now, and that useless coastie keeps climbing up the ladder....

Rising coach finds silver lining after injuries

NEW JOB: Ryan Campbell. Picture: Max Mason-Hubers

THREE cruel twists of fate ruined Ryan Campbell's dream of playing for Newcastle.

But those twists, which led to three knee reconstructions, have helped put Campbell in position to mould the Jets of tomorrow.

The New Lambton 21-year-old has been appointed one of two full-time head coaches of the inaugural Emerging Jets program.

Campbell will oversee the skill acquisition phase (9 to 13 years) of the ground-breaking system, which is a joint venture of Northern NSW Football, the Jets and Football Federation Australia.

The full-time coach of the game training phase, which covers 14 to 16 years teams, is yet to be finalised but the Herald has been told Jets W-League and long-time Northern NSW Institute of Sport coach Wayne O'Sullivan has been given the nod.

Campbell was appointed by a committee of Jets head coach Gary van Egmond, FFA technical director Han Berger and NNSWF technical director David Smith. He will start his duties on January 7 at the annual high performance camp in Armidale.

In his role, the primary school teaching student will work with team coaches and ensure training is in line with the FFA national curriculum.

It is a crucial role in developing the region's broad talent pool and one Campbell feels privileged and excited to hold.

Those emotions, though, are a long way from the events which led him to coaching.

"I came through the Northern NSW system and was in state teams," Campbell said.

"But when I was 15 I had an ACL reconstruction on my right knee.

"The next year I did the same knee again.

"I played a bit when I was 17, trying to get back into it, and I did my left knee.

"At that stage I thought, I've had three seasons out at probably the most important stage of my development and that's it, but I wanted to stay involved in the game."

Under the guidance of Smith, Campbell has risen quickly through the ranks at NNSWF, coaching under 13, 14 and 15 girls teams. Being not far from his playing days, Campbell fits FFA's mould for a skill acquisition coach.

"I've still got the ability to play bits and pieces and demonstrate things," he said.

"That's a major reason why they are going with the younger ex-players because demonstration is so important in teaching young kids."

In the role, he will probably be overseeing older coaches.

"As long as you go the right way about it, make sure you earn their respect, and don't treat it as an age gap - just treat it like everyone's coaching and we're all there to work together - I don't feel it's a problem," he said.

How come Tagart can not get a run? His good enough to play in a 3rd string national side and bang in a few goals why not give the kid a chance

In my opinion I'd give him a run instead of ryu griff playing off Heskey. Just felt griff effectiveness hasnt been that great for a couple of games and needs a stint on the pine, maybe come on for one of the front 4 at some stage

I share your thoughts on griff and I think he will serve the team far better on the bench Tagart is a more out right striker where griff can also play left and right hence giving egghead more options

Its bad enough that Sullyvan has destroyed our W-League team, now he's being given the nod in one of, if not the most important coaching role for our future?

**** off NNSWF, keeping it in house.

Good story though for that kid, plus he won't be in a position of having links to kids's parents which may influence his decisions wrt the kids.

Have also heard Peter Junchnewicz (spelling?) ex-Newcastle United/Edgeworth/Hamilton Olympic player has one of the roles. May be assisting Sullivan. Coached Olympic 17s in 2011, and Olympic 19s in 2012. Sounds of similar characteristics as Ryan Campbell. Youngish, played, good at working with kids.

Obviously the criteria wasn't only about what he has achieved with the women Thomas.
O'Sullivan has done a good job with NSWIS and NNSW state teams in recent years so he is the perfect candidate for this 14-16 age group.

I just hope sanity prevails and Gumprecht comes nowhere near this Emerging Jets program, from what I have seen and heard from other people, this guy is a deadset raving lunatic. Ryan Campbell is an excellent choice for the role of working with the younger group. We need people like Sully, Junky and him encouraging and nurturing youth in the 9-16 age group, not playing the game in fear of making a mistake.

I hope you're right mate, but given his recent history with the W-League I dont have alot of faith.

Not sure about Andre being a lunatic. He was charged with coaching a particular style of football to young kids with potential, sometimes it takes a loud personailty to get the message through.

Tinkler has done more damage to the W-League team than anyone. The minute he decided to withdraw the money they were pretty much doomed to become one of the poorer teams in the competition.

It's also a valid and important part of our continuing development as a football nation. It needs all the support it can get, and when greedy fat f*cks like Tinkler pull the plug on the very significant funds they have invested in it, football suffers as a result.
