I think there's merit in taking Scott's wage and potentially spending less on an older keeper and using the rest elsewhere.

Problem is there aren't many older Australian keepers coming off contract at the end of the year. Redmayne is one, yes. Jack Duncan is too (but I don't think we should go back there), Matt Acton is as well....long shot option though - Dean Bouzanis? Though he is likely to stay in England while Catley is playing for Arsenal.

See what you've said there is exactly how Ryan Scott is, except much worse. The love in for him I simply do not understand

Unfortunately that is the way of things these days. We have a league with young keepers who like pull off impossible saves and dribbles to impress the ladies, but bugger all competence for high balls and physicality. I have never known this league to be so poor in terms of GKs.

It worries me that Milligans first decision is to anoint James, I?m with Red, he was poor after the first couple of games

Milligan's idea of getting an old GK in for James to learn from? Isn't the GK Coach's job?

Pure money saving option this - James is a serviceable, young, local GK and would be cheaper than Scott.

This has Redmayne player/GK coach written all over it.

Don't bring that on us, don't even think it into existence. Let him steal some wages somewhere else.

Go sign some young keeper(s) and just keep throwing them away every season until we stumble onto a Paulson or Gauci. Clearly there's nothing coming through the youth ranks so go and raid whatever NPL team seems to have their coaching sorted and try to take their hardwork and claim it as our own.

I think it got to a point moving forward that it was going to be Scott or James moving forward.

If that was the case, Milligan was always going to go the local in James. Imagine how much criticism Milligan would have got if he punted James.

Is Michael Weier a candidate? Former jet with first team experience, probably a cheaper option then Scott going forward.

I think he's a good keeper but man oh man I think Perth broke him.

He looks nothing like he did a few years back.

I see him heading to back to NZ and replacing Paulsen at Auckland.

He also doesn’t seem to fit the description. Milligan is chasing either someone young like Noah James for direct competition, or someone experienced and coming to the end of their career.

Sail fits neither description, and neither does Weirer for me. Names like Birra or Redmayne make more sense, and any I’d say under 25 (James is 24) would be the young keeper age range he’s looking at.

You're making it sound like the Manager will stick to whatever he says and not just sign whomever becomes available.

That talk about a senior keeper was just an excuse to justify letting arguably the better keeper go and saving some coin on the GK position.

That said Sail is way worse than Scott and concedes goals from nothing shots like a classic Jets keeper. But, I think he'll want too much coin to be a backup for us. Let the NZ teams chase him or he can go to a City as backup.

    According to FootballFeverAU:

We're actively pursuing a foreign CB to bolster defence - Feels odd to me when I'd say it's the one spot we were set in. Perhaps means we're still doing a back 3.

Dane Ingahm is close to finalising a contract with an overseas club in Asia

    Scarcella returning to Sydney

    Vidic and Scott departing

They again mentioned Taylor has formally requested a release of contract - I'm not sure if this is them just late to reporting this, or this is him again making this request

We are targeting Max Burgess as a marquee signing for the upcoming season - Good signing, bizarre if the marquee aspect is true
