Yeah not sure what is going on at Mayfield.
We are nearing the end of the season, not half-way through...how much more "protection" does the pitch need?
There was a good window of opportunity to play 1st grade tonight and reduce the backlog of games building up but now with more rain predicted in coming days it just makes things so much harder.
Can anyone confirm the latest I have heard is Suns will be promoted if Croatia cannot provide the new fm ground requirements by December this year that Northern requests . Background has Meyer park potentially being shared between the red clubs. Best of luck to whoever gets promoted I’m sure they will crush it.
Rumour, P McGuiness to coach Croatia next year.
Made some enquires.
Council hardly check Mayfield Park and let club do what they want.
Any teams playing them should go look themselves like Croatia did hence the drama with it all.
No point checking it. Newcastle Football checked it yesterday and deemed it fit to play but cannot overrule the ground licence holder or council.
A gutless decision by Mayfield.
They want to bang on about the integrity of the competition when Azzurri forfeited but here they had a ground good enough to play and crickets.
Well hopefully facts don’t get in the way of a good story.
Mayfield park has been closed since last Thursday (all council inspections)
We advised Croatia that the ground was struggling as early as Monday but would keep them updated.
Croatia asked if they can find a ground would we move the game which we said yes. …Silence
Yesterday morning we phoned Newcastle football to see if they had any grounds we could transfer to? They advised Croatia have already asked today because Mayfield park is quite wet we were then advised that Pasadena has been opened by council.
Mayfield park was then inspected by council and closed. Immediately we were contacted by Croatia that Pasadena was open and would we play up there. We said Yes.
So for the next 3hrs we thought we were playing at Pasadena.
Until we received a call from Newcastle football that they were at Mayfield park doing a formal inspection with a Council representative that Croatia had organised.
The Croatian council guy was a player in their squad on leave from work and he felt it should be open but had no authority to open it.
When we questioned this we were advised any damage would still be against us as a club.
Newcastle football then rung us and said they felt Mayfield park should be closed but if desperate to play we could open it and it would get damaged and run a high injury risk.
We feel we have done everything correctly and stand by our call it was never about protecting ground it’s well gone it was all about player safety.
We gave plenty of notice , agreed to ground swop , agreed to play at Pasadena, council closed the ground officially, Newcastle football agreed ground should be closed, we done what we could.
We also have got speers point booked for next week to ensure game can go ahead , both teams don’t have a game booked next week so surely speers point is an advantage for them? And it doesn’t change anyone’s schedule.
The End
