For those that don't mind going around the would I've found a fare with Korean Airlines into and out of Sao Paulo for under $2800pp.

    Itinerary:

    09JUN - Sydney to Seoul

09JUN - Seoul to Sao Paulo via Los Angeles (landing on the 10th)

03JUL - Sao Paulo to Seoul via Los Angeles (landing on the 5th)

    05JUL - Seoul to Sydney

Not the most disirable way to do but for that price it's worth a look!

    Found one even better

    Sydney to China
    China to Paris
    Paris to Lisbon
    Lisbon to Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo to Rio De Janiero

    Opposite for Return

$2800 for the around world odeyssey. My thoughts were **** that I will pay $1000 more and spend 20 hours less each way not travelling

    Booked Airfares. FINALLY

Sydney >> Montevideo via Auckland via Santiago

    Few days in Montevideo

Take the Ferry across River Plate to Buenos Aires for a few days

Buenos Aires>> Rio De Janiero via stop off at Iguassu Falls for a couple of days

Get to Rio on the 9th June and spend 4 weeks in Brazil leaving after Quarter Finals

Leave Brazil via Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires for a couple of days

Then Buenos Aires to Santiago for a week in Chile

    Santiago to Sydney via Auckland

    $3175.

    Can't complain

$2500 Australia to Sth America return.

The extra $700 came from going to Iguassu falls and getting into and out of Brazil which is dear as all shit.

The flight out of Brazil i got on Turkish Airlines for $300 when most other airlines were doing it for $600 one way

On another note Aerolineas Argentinas are not an option anymore as they are cancelling flights to Australia in April next year

Can absolutley gaurantee you that this is money well spent. I have never seen anything like them before. The news that the Devil's Throat makes is just insane.

Are you staying on the Brazilian or Argentinian side? I was lucky enough to stay at Hotel Das Cataratas on the Brazilian side of the national park. If you can stay here I would. You get the falls to yourself once the national park closes at 5 or 6pm and before it opens at 9am.

The majority of the falls are on the Argentina side but I reckon you have better views on the Brazilian side.

I suggest doing one of the boat rides into the falls as well if you have the time and money and the helicopter to see them form all angles available.

I am super jealous of you guys going over for the WC. I wish I could afford to.

Haven't booked accommodation yet in Iguassu. Have had a browse and there is heaps available at the time so not in that urgent a hurry yet. Was thinking more of staying in the Brazilian side right in the guts of town to enjoy some nightlife

Checked that place out you spruiked

    Very nice
Probably looking to save a few quid on accommodation though

Was planning on doing the boat but will look into the helicopter aspect

About $230 for 10mins a helicopter over Iguassu apparently.

Have made some significant savings from my budget for flights/ accommodation so will most likely be taking up this idea.
Always wanted to go on a chopper but haven't had the chance.

Either that of just waste my money on cheap piss and lapdances somewhere

On another note how's everyone's plans coming along??

Anyone bailed who said they were going or anyone make the late decision to go???

My trip is finally all sorted now. Ticketed my internal flights for the Socceroos games, applied for tickets to France v Honduras in Porto Alegre as well. Booked all my stuff for after the WC as well, will be over there 2 months all up. Now just have to save up my drinking money and wait for June to roll around!

    Ok, based on:

    09JUN - SYD/SAO*
    25JUN - RIO/SYD

American Airlines: $3750pp (via Dallas on the way over and New York on the way back)
Emirates: $4000pp (via Dubai each way)

Of course change a date or two and the prices will swing heaps, just need to play with it and see what works best.

*Did into Sao Paulo on the way over as it's better to get to our first game in Cuiaba from here, can look at into Rio if you want.

    Ouch

The Emirates fare was going for $3200 back in July >> October last year. Even then it was a poor deal.

28 Hours of flying time from Sydney with a 90 min stop over in Dubai to break up the two 14 hour flights

So glad I got $2576 to Sth America via LAN

We've got (most) of the Brazil part of our trip sorted.
Fly out of Sydney on 30th May, 1 week in Chile (most likely Santiago and Valparaiso but nothing except flight in and out of Chile booked). Paid about $1450 Syd - Santiago return

Rio from 6th June to 11th June. Booked an apartment in Ipanema through Airbnb

Staying 11th and 12th in Caceres, about 3 hrs from Cuiaba cause we couldn't find any accommodation. Have the option to cancel before April for free if something comes up, if not bus in on game day morning to soak up the atmosphere. Fly out at 3am after the game to Porto Alegre

5 nights Porto Alegre, booked accommodation but got accepted for couchsurfing, I'm keen to cancel accommo and couchsurf, other two mates not so much. Also trying to get to France v Honduras

    5 nights Curitiba, accommo booked.

Haven't booked flights out of Brazil or anything else yet but the rough plan is bus from Curitiba to Sao Paulo then fly to Bolivia for 2 weeks (La Paz, Rurrenabaque, Uyuni, Sucre, Santa Cruz) and then fly to Buenos Aires for a week, then spend about 9-10 days catching buses back to Santiago, east - west across Argentina (Rosario, Cordoba and Mendoza, probably) before flying home

For your time in Argentina have heard about the black market trade in US$$???

In Buenos Aires you head to Florida Street with a pocketful of US$

There you will find many a person prepared to trade you Argentina Pesos for your US$.
They will also give you a favourable exchange rate that is almost double the official rate you will get in the cambio/bank.

Reason for this is he Argentinian economy had the arse fall out of it a few years back. As their currency became more and more worthless the locals took more confidence in US$$. AS a result the locals were buying things in US$ and were further ****ing up the local currency. The government has stepped in to try and stop people using the US$ and to put some confidence back in the Argentina Peso. As a result the locals now need to basically be Lionel Messi / Diego Maradona or some other high profile person to get their hands on US$. Now the locals are keener than ever to get their hands on US$.

Now this little activity isn't exactly legal but it is basically condoned and ignored and everyone knows it goes on.

Fancy getting half price beer/hookers/etc then give it a go.

Type black market trade of money in Argentina into Google if you don't believe me

Yeah, we're hoping that Cuiaba airport has luggage storage facilities. Not sure what we will do otherwise. Will have to befriend some other supporters who let us store our stuff with them!

I remember reading about it a while ago. I've got mates who live in Santiago and have spent a fair amount of time in Argentina so I'll hit them up about it too.
    Cheers!
