besides the stuff ups biraz has been pretty decent. I'm happy we now have a dilemma in the goal keeping position, both keepers challenging each other on a week to week basis.

Remember he is younger then BK and hasnt had the same amount of game time...
General observers of the game and field players... really do not understand the development role and understanding of a goalkeeper and dont try to discount those words.
I just didnt feel it was a good piece, that being said I did not see the game. However the times I have seen him, he has done well.
Anywho...

Agree with Goaliepersepre, goalkeepers need time to mature, rarely do young keepers make an impact (although we have seen a few in HAL recently) that is why we need to continue to back our current young (& local) No.1. Who has won the accolades and respect from his peers and not prepare the gallows because some new kid has hit town with ambitions on the No.1 spot.

Ryan is a real rare one in the keepers but all the rest are experienced goal keepers in the league who are tried and tested (maybe not velaphi)
biraz and BK are 21 & 25 respectively and are juniors when compared to Theo, Bolton, etc.
Also to further back up BK, he has had 3 years + ACL of first team football (minus the neil young saga and nash covering BK when injured)
Biraz has played only 8 times for adelaide in 3 years.

The Criticism of Birrighitti FMD Facepalm
When that **** up occurred on Wednesday night I just giggled and had a good laugh about it. This event would happen once every 5 years in the HAL and was a zillion to one effort. Birraz came out to clear the ball up past half way and smashed it. Josh Mitchell turned his head expecting it to sail up to half way. Next thing you know the ball hit him on the head and ballooned 25 yards straight at goal. The severe spin on the ball kept it from going in. Mitchell was about 25 yards out Birraz was at the top of the box 5-10 yards to the right of the goal. Petit was unmarked and about 20 yards out and central and comfortably won the race to smash into the net from all of about 9 inches out.
Now all though you don't wish to see these type of events as a regular occurrence they happen in the game. Much rather it happened in this game in preseason than in the HAL or against the Gypo Plague. That also being said the ball could have easily pinged out for a corner/throw in/ centre of the park it was just extremely unfortunate that it went to goal.
Anyone who is criticising Birraz over this needs their head read. The rest of his game was of a good quality and from what I have seen of him since coming to Newy BK may start having to spend all summer with a set of tweezers handy to get the splinters out of his arse.
As far as the other error the clowns at the Herald are talking about I don't recall it being as bad as the hack journos are making out and it pales into insignificance when compared to the **** up Jack Duncan made in the 2nd half

As I've said in other threads, I feel sorry for the guy because they are mistakes that I'm sure he'd be kicking himself about afterwards, but it is a bit of a worry that he's made two very embarrassing errors in only a few pre-season games. I don't think the errors are a reflection of his ability at all, it's just that for a guy who wants to try and unseat BK (who was fantastic last season), those kind of mistakes don't look good. I still like the fact that we have a young keeper with big potential now as backup, as opposed to 30 year old peasants, but BK is our first-choice keeper at this point, no question about it.
