If we hated every player that showed no loyalty to the club we'd have no one to support.
Loyalty is a child's fantasy anyway.

TBH, he has only really nailed the spot and scored goals since the end of 2013. He got that hat trick and then a quiet period and has had a good run to finish the season.

I don't think that is enough to base a career move on - yet. I think all these kids should go through that second, follow up season before moving on.

I guess his advisors see dollar signs first.

surprised he hung around this long tbh
at least when he goes we will get money for him, rather than lose him on a free (or as its known in the HAL a "release")

I agree. Especially with your last point.

Bloke makes the WC squad and then gets on the field and does anything positive like score a goal and the buyers will be lining up particularly at the 400k price he is allegedly available for.

Agree it would be good to see him stick around for longer but at the end of the day he will learn and develop quicker out of this league and if he is a success over there he will be better off for going now.

Going now will only reduce his chances of success but the rewards are greater if he in fact succeeds

For the Socceroos long term and Taggz own personal benefit he needs to go this off season

Have to say, I'm leaning more towards the Skirt Boy line of thinking on this one...

Not only is he openly saying he doesn't want to stick around with us for another season, but he also wants to club to do all the leg work for him and find a buyer.
I mean if there were clubs actively trying to buy him from us and we were standing in his way then fair enough, but as it is he's coming across as a whiny bitch.

I've got no problems with players moving on. I do have a problem when they openly say they want to move on.

Also lets be honest here. Other than the big leagues in Europe is the quality of football that far ahead?

Also the wages are not that great either when you think about it.

Heaven forbid we have a striker full of self-confidence who just got the golden boot.
We should be wanting all our players to be wanting to move on and play at high levels.
His winge about 7th being not good enough is exactly what we've all been saying for seasons.

If we don't want cocky self absorbed strikers and want guys happy to play in the HAL forever the. Well only ever come seventh.

Wish we had a team of taggs, aggressive, cocky, willing to back themselves, apply themselves in getting better, does not sit in the corner having a sulk, wants to achieve something, willing to work at his faults, speaks his mind. **** he reminds me of griffo and everything I love about the bloke.

Whats that old saying "It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep." 4 years of having sheep, its time we got us some more lions.

I'm all for having a bunch of arrogant pricks for players (from the stories I've heard Taggart definitely qualifies for this category), but you blokes do realise that he said "it would be silly for me to stay here another season"?

I mean I'm 99% sure that Griff won't want to stick around here next season either, but to openly say it in the media like that shows a massive disrespect to the club and fans.

So if the bloke gets an offer to go OS or stay at the jets which is the smart decision. If he stays and has a shit season what then, he's out of contract with the jets, he's got no offer OS and he's no longer the hot shot young golden boot player any more meaning general interest would have reduced.

Simply I'm reading between the lines knowing first hand how reporters can decide to twist a quote, or lack the context of the question in their article.

Look at his first quote he's clearly responding to a question about when is the right time to leave to head OS, well geez Sherlock journo I'd imagine after you have set a club scoring record, won the golden boot, been the youngest player to do so in the HAL history, made the step up to the socceroos, potentially making a world cup squad/camp and you have achieved all this with a basket case club who's had a coach sacking, poor performances, an unbalanced squad and when you have a nice attractive transfer fee ceiling in your current contract and current interest from OS clubs. Its not rocket science, its not like his current club is on the cusp of achieving things, we still aspire to being slightly greater then the bottom 45%of our league wow wee such high ambition, no coach appointed, an owner that is in financial trouble and desperately trying to sell to anyone interested.

    But it's 100% true.
If nothing changes, if no one pulls there finger out, if next year is the same old dross it would be stupid for him to stay here.

If he goes, good luck to him.
If he stays, hopefully his truth bomb, rocket up the arse might get some in the squad/club to work header/smarter and we might see some results improve.

We have been shit for ages, we have no coach, it would be stupid for him to stay, and we (fans players club) get upset by him saying that then we deserve the shirt we get.

The mediocrity the club and squad have served up for so long deserves no respect.

@ Pico: difference is that there's isn't an overseas offer yet, but he's virtually already ruling out playing for us next season. This is the key point that everyone seems to be missing.

Regarding the shoddy journalism, fair point, but in any context it's a pretty bad quote. What's wrong with the old "I'll make that decision when it comes" approach, or better yet "I love the club, but if I get an offer from Europe then it will be hard to turn down"?

@ Gav: I can see where you're coming from, but personally I don't think that's the right way to go about things regardless of the circumstances. The club was still the one who gave him his big chance in the A-League, and the fans were the ones who supported him and voted him player of the season. I don't think this was the best way to go about making that particular point.

Plus I find it hard to buy that Taggart is doing this for anything other than selfish reasons.

I agree militia, its absolutely the wrong way to go about and totally selfish.

We (club) just aren't in a position to complain about it.

Taggz has always given 100% plus while playing for the Jets and as a fan we really can't ask for anymore than that.
He's perhaps the most exciting prospect this country has produced since Viduka and as such he needs to go to Europe sooner rather than latter.
Good luck to him and I look forward to seeing him ply his trade in the leagues of Europe.

I'd like to see him get another season and see if he can have either equal or similar success before he considers a move. Chances are he'll turn into the other top prospects of recent years who have all this momentum, decide that leaving for an international club is the right idea, then you never hear about them again because they don't get game time and are still to young and inexperienced
