Excellent signing. We've all been complaining for years that we needed a true AM. Flores, Carney, Griffo, Taggart (?), South American Striker. Compare to last year when we had Taggart who hadn't proven anything yet and an injured Heskey.

    I'm more optimistic this season.

Says a hell of a lot when clubs who are doing better than us don't want him.

Yet good old Newy sign everyone else trash

    We swooped FFS

The bloke has been available for months. No other club wanted him.

Face facts the bloke has done nothing bar a small period 4years ago. To say he is a quality signing is taking the piss
Johnny Warren Medal winner and was back to top form last season before getting injured. Those are the facts

I can understand people being a bit tetchy RE: Flores. It wouldn't be the first time we've signed a player with a chequered injury history. But if the club has learnt from past mistakes, and Marcos is as good a chance of being fit as Neville (easiest comparison I could think of) then it could prove a masterful move.

One thing is certain, time will tell. Let's all just wait and see how it pans out before lambasting the poor bastard

By people, you mean MFKS… and chequered injury history? Has there been more than this recent injury to his knee?

Compare Harold to Heskey last season and I'd take Harold in a second. We got the value out of Heskey's appeal and sold enough merch and attracted the fans. Harold would cost substantially less and he actually nipped in and grabbed a couple of goals. Would be a good replacement for Taggart with Griff, Carney & Flores feeding him.

To be honest, I wasn't sure if he had any other injuries to speak of.

And MFKS is one example I guess, but I doubt he will be the only one with some concerns about fitness. At least with Neville the club had intimate knowledge of the prognosis and rehab.

that would see us concede a truck load of goals because we'd be easily over-run and played through in midfield. Brillante also isn't a holding mid. Griffo would suffer as a wide mid with far more defensive responsibility and doesn't have the fitness to play their anyway

Where im at WM. Decent player but wait and see.

Alternatively, Ive seen quite a few handy players get back to a good level and become ineffective after this injury.

Another Q is why has he been moved on from so many clubs if he's pretty good?

    2006–2008 Newell's Old Boys 16 (0)
    2007–2008 → Unión de Santa Fe (loan) 26 (2)
    2009 Curicó Unido 25 (4)
    2010–2011 Adelaide United 31 (9)
    2011–2012 Henan Jianye 15 (2)
    2012–2013 Melbourne Victory 24 (4)
    2013–2014 Central Coast Mariners 12 (3)
    2014– Newcastle Jets 0 (0)

Always interested in the opinions of someone that worships a state league player no A-league club has ever offered a senior contract.

I don't know about anything pre-Adelaide, but since he won the Johnny Warren medal down there, it's reasonable to start at that point.

Adelaide offered him a 3yr offer as marquee which he turned down and chose to go to China.

Not sure why he left China suddenly, but how many players in the A-league make it in Asia?

His form at Melbourne wasn't great and he didn't fit Ange's style, although he still managed 4 goals - when do we get 4 goals from a midfielder?

As for the scum, they didn't want to risk the injury. I've seen a lot of CCM fans already annoyed about this signing which goes to show that the form he produced at the start of the season for them was fairly good.

Wrt to Flores at victory, they were playing him as their sole striker. And he still showed quality. As long as we play him as a number then, we'll be fine.

My views on Flores: great signing.

Adelaide - his form spoke for itself. One of the best players in the league. A pure #10 who set up goals, scored them, and got chicks. Any team would have been crazy not to sign him if given the chance.

China - he failed there the same reason many players do. The lifestyle is shit, and it's hard to break into the scene. I imagine in terms of HAL players going to China that the percentage of players who actually do good things there is less than 25%. I've been told by several players who have played in China professionally that if you aren't playing for a Beijing-based club, you're more than likely going to have an awful time. I was not surprised his China thing didn't work out.

Victory - let us not forget this was during Ange's transition phase, and they were going to a whole new system with whole new philosophy. He was played as a false 9, which arguably hasn't worked for Victory then or since (nowadays they play with two false 9s, and it sucks). But there were glimpses of him being amazing there, even when out of his comfort zone.

CCM - I thought he was superb. He seeemed to get the best out of Mitch Duke, who majorly struggled after Flores got injured. Dictated play, got a few assists from memory, bagged a few goals (although IIRC most were penalties). It's a shame he got injured, as I was enjoying watching him play. I thought Griff was absolutely unreal at Sydney, and a large amount of it came down to him being smart enough to know where ADP wanted to play the ball. If we have Griff's smartness, coupled with the proven ability of Flores, I can see great things happening.

This guy is a bit of a character - loves a laugh, loves taking the piss, pretty active on social media. We've missed a good personality ever since Ljubo IMO, and having someone as light-hearted as Flores might be good for us.

As much as HSG have done some funny things over the years, they do attempt to get some things right. For years and years, our team was in desperate need of a target man striker. They signed Heskey (I still don't understand why GVE had his panties in a bunch over that signing - he was one of the main people saying he needed a target man). We've needed a number 10 ever since Nick Carle basically - HSG attempted to sign Culina, and have now signed Flores. It may take us some time - but the evident holes are getting plugged.

Stubbins seems to be great so far. He's making low-fuss, common-sense signings. Something that GVE seemed to refuse to do, ever.
    OK
