I'm under the impression he has signed for 12 months as a marquee. He won't arrive in Aus until July. http://www.theguardian.com/football/...melbourne-city

Should do well in the slower pace of our league. Their team still doesn't worry me to much. They had plenty of problems last year. Unless they do get Lampard to play defensive Mid for them i still think they will leak goals.

That article in no way suggests he is marquee. In fact, the closing paragraph would indicate he is NOT marquee.

Duff’s signing is unlikely to be the end of City’s business deals before the new season starts. They have room for five more players in their 23 man squad. Duff is the club’s third “Visa” player, with the club able to sign two more, as well as an international marquee. Marquee players are exempt from the salary cap.

Duff is signed under the cap on a one year deal. They have their Aus and O/S marquee spots left to fill yet.

Would love your views on how Duff will go in the HAL at Melbourne City.

I see him as being a very similar player to what Emerton was in the EPL. You were pretty quick to play down how Emo would go in the HAL, and to an extent you were right. Do you see similar for Duff or do you think he'll do well with JVS?
    OK

This is the press release from MC. Specifically makes no mention of the number of games or guest role. He may end up as the Guest but he May be marquee or under the cap (ridiculously should the majority of his wages be paid by NYCFC)

Melbourne City FC can today announce that New York City FC’s inaugural player and Spanish World Cup winner David Villa will join the Club for a period of the Hyundai A-League 2014-15 season.

Villa, 32, who was unveiled by the Major League Soccer club as its inaugural player on Monday, will play, train and contribute to Melbourne City FC’s Hyundai A-League campaign between October and December 2014 prior to the commencement of the MLS season in the United States.

Schwarzer is a free agent. If Birraz leaves, he wouldn't be a bad signing. A short term one, yes, but not a bad signing.

and that TAB ad where he cheers when he blatantly lets a goal in has made me all suspect about his motivations.

When's this South American striker supposed to be announced 10 days ago going to be announced?

Does it really matter? Its months away from the start of the season, in years gone by they would have announced this anyway and then read stories about Visa issues for the next 8 weeks. The way I see it Phil gave the scoop that this player is coming and will be announced when the deal is done.

Its not like anyone knows who it is anyway. They could attempt to sign another 5 Sth American strikers and no one would know.

It's not so much that it matters, it's more that we're impatient
