Golden boot in the A-League. I don't think overseas defenders and keepers will be as easily sold or beaten.

It's coming across as I'm knocking the bloke, but I really want him to succeed. Not just for himself but for the national team too. He has a great base from which he can continue to develop.

Yeah, just saw that. Disappointed that he's only here on loan. If he's good, Barcelona will want him back, so at best he'll only be here one season. That being said, if he's a flop (and hopefully he won't be), we won't have wasted too much $$$ on him.

And as for a striker, his strikerate isn't brilliant, unless Stubbs is going to play Griffo up front and Montano on the wing?

He has 5 goals in 30 games... that's not great by any standard but I would be more concerned that he has only played 30 games in 5 years, not the goals he has scored.

Apparently 9 in 47... Wiki is clearly outdated.

I wonder how many people are going to get FC Barcelona mixed up with Barcelona Sporting club?

I wonder if someone stumbled across the youtube clip above and the one of him scoring a long range bomb and decided that was scouting enough?

I trust Stubbins judgement. He was instrumental in bringing Flores to Oz

    1. “He’s got good technique,
    2. he knows where the back of the net is and I think
    3. at his age, he could develop into a very strong player.
    So do I.

    So do I.

    So could I.

wouldnt mind knowing a bit more about him.

It would help having Flores in the squad being able to translate as a fellow spanish speaker and adjusting to life in Oz

That was one of the reasons Zura never settled in. He had no support network.

I will wait and see how this guy turns out, looks positive though and Stubbins seems to actually have a recruitment plan, unlike GVE, so I will give him time and see what comes of it.

True and I think Zura only signed a few weeks before the season. His wife wasnt here either.
Edson is only young so I doubt he's married.

From what I can find, the Ecuadorian league is weird. They play "Primera" for the first half (Jan-Jul) of the year and "Segunda" for the second half (Jul-Dec), and seemingly play year round.

He seems to have played a fair amount of 2013 on loan for El Nacional, scoring 8 goals in 27 appearances. But it doesn't seem after coming back to Barcelona that he has played, so seemingly hasn't played since December.
    OK

Maybe he is a bit of a player and has a few birds on the go?

Not everyone is a celibate loser you know.

Aye, I noticed that too. But given he is 23, you would have hoped for more than ~50 games in 5 years.

Dare I say it but Wikipedia can be pretty inaccurate on games played/goals scored for more obscure players

Fair enough. Having played for the National team he must have some quality. I wonder how Adam Taggarts Stats compare. Not many goals or appearances for tags in the previous 2-3 years before the breakout season.
