Totally agree. Doesn't seem a lot of point training preseason as 442 when the moment one of our two strikers goes down we are stuffed. Am hoping we sign a holding mid and a backup striker.
If we sign Ward, who I am a big fan of, we would need to push Flores or Ward into second strikers role should Joel be injured or suspended. Not sure that would work.
can confirm griff is looking stunning in the flesh and in the mind, expect a massive year from the great man
I'd like to see us sign up a quality young striker, know it's not gonna happen but Kale obviously comes to mind first in that department. Also, pretty sure Flores was playing lone striker back at Victory, which didn't work out as well for him. But, maybe with a guy like Griff or this Montano guy playing next to him he may do better in the role, so he is also a back-up for that role.
I'd also love to see us sign up an experienced holding mid, one that has been around the game for a long time. I would love for him to be a foreign player as well, just so we could say that we actually filled out all of our visa spots.
With Nick Ward, a young striker that could be our next Taggart, an experienced holding mid and a CB that could fill depth in that area, such as Cowburn and we are looking solid in all areas of the park I'd say
And it's done...

The Newcastle Jets have signed defender Sam Gallagher for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.
Gallagher joins the Jets from Vietnamese Club Hanoi T&T, where he made 11 appearances during the 2014 V-League season, scoring two goals.
The 23-year-old graduated from the youth team of Sydney FC before having stints at Hyundai A-League Clubs Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory.
Gallagher also represented Australia at U-20 level on 18 occasions, playing alongside current Jets teammates Mark Birighitti and Ben Kantarovski at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2011.
“I always had it in my mind that if had the chance to play in Australia again I’d look to try and take it, so when the opportunity to trial with Newcastle came up I jumped at the chance.” Gallagher said.
“Thankfully the trial went well and I was able to get a contract. I’m excited to be a Jets player and really looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt and giving everything I can for the Club.
“I’m lucky enough to know a few of the boys from previous experiences and the rest of the squad has been really good to me since I came in on trial, so it’s made the transition nice and easy.”
Jets head coach Phil Stubbins said the signing of Gallagher gave Newcastle added depth across the backline.
“Sam brings a real balance to the squad as a player who can fill the role of left stopper or left fullback,” Stubbins said.
“I think he’s got a lot of confidence from the experience he’s had in Asia and he’s learnt a hell of a lot from his time over there as well.
“He’s a good kid who is hungry for success and we’re pleased to have him in Newcastle.”
Means 2 spots left right? Surely we aren't sailing anywhere near the cap and the last 2 will be 2 of the higher earners. If not than I hope Stubbins is a tactical genius
Someone on the Syd fc forum just wrote jeronimo to newcastle. Could be just a baseless rumour.
That would take our final visa spot, which I would have hoped to be taken by a quality DM. If it is true doubt he'd come cheap therefore we wouldnt have the $$$ for a quality DM (which we really need).
I would love to have Jeronimo if we had more than 1 visa spot left and $$$ to 2 more quality players.
we are taking the zdenek zeman 1-2-7 approach this year
At least it will be entertaining winning or losing games 5-4 and 7-6 each week!
I dont mind it though, i know he gets people off with his diving but he can be our diver... and he does score goals!
WE DON'T DO WALKING AWAY !
I'd take jeronimo and wilkshere to be our midfield general.
