I know the drill mate, I meant the amount people on here used to blow over zads there would be more angst about the 'not so skilful but tries hard' leaving

Zads Lads

If these blokes now annoint Griffo it will be time to order the hit man

I wouldn't say I demanded it but I thought it was a good idea giving leaving players a lap at their last game, if it was already known they were leaving. Anyone that isn't resigned in the off-season, or moves on after that final game doesn't get one, simple as that. Unless you want us all to congregate at Hunter Stadium this week and let Rubes do a lap around an empty field?

Perf have signed Andy Keogh on a 2 year deal.
That's a pretty decent statement of intent there. Current (or maybe fringe) Republic of Ireland striker, decent quality at Championship level and a few seasons in the EPL. And he is only 28. Not exactly the name to put bums on seats but if he scores goals, that will be a big pick up.

Melbourne City could sign David Villa on a 10 game guest stint before the MLS season starts in March 2015 when Villa would then play for New York City.
This actually all makes sense and looks to be a high possibility Villa would play for Melbourne from October - January when the A-League breaks for the Asian Cup, then he would go to New York to start pre-season.

Yep, how I interpreted it too. The Jerks & Burns were apparently super keen to permanently make the loan move a real thing, the only thing stopping it was Incheon. If Incheon have now said he's free to move because he's unwanted, the only reason I see him not coming to us is if he gets a better offer from a different HAL club (cue the Sydney FC and Perth Glory links) or OS club.

probably because he came in late, unfit and with almost zero game time. with a full pre-season there would be no reason to think he wouldn't replicate his later performances earlier on.

If burns comes permanently I doubt it will be at the expense of a foreign no10 and striker. In a good position to have a lot of competition for places amongst decent quality and experienced players, this even factoring in hoole, Goodwin and virgili who now have some experience. Personally not really worried about upfront or midfield. It's all about the left side of back four, the left stopper and left back. Is it worth playing either carney or Goodwin there or should we be looking for someone.

The wheels fell off last season when Burns left, at his peak he and Taggart were carrying the Jets. This without Joel or Carney as attacking options. Burns wouldn't come cheaply and would most certainly be at the expense of a No 10 or striker for the sort of coin he would command. Better the Burns we know than a another Jesper Hakkanson.
The one game Burns had at No 10 he had Goodwin and Virgilli as wide options. In other words he had nothing to work with. Replace that with Griffiths and Carney and see how effective he can be at 10.
Had heard there was J-league side after him

Don't know wether Goodwin has been poorly advised but have never understood why he hasn't solely focussed on being a LB. He is never going to cut it professionally as a LM and only ever seems to play well when up against inexperienced RB's. Should concentrate 100% on LB and see where that takes him.

“We’re getting them all in to do their C level coaching licence,” he said.
“It’s a decent initiative to get all the boys together and get them interacting in a less stressful environment – mind you though it can be stressful doing a coaching course.
“We’ll have a players’ meeting prior to doing the coaching course and there will be a presentation on how we want to structure things moving forward, the etiquette that we feel is necessary for the group and how we want the players to represent the Newcastle Jets jersey.”
Great idea getting the players to do a basic Coaching course. Might develop an appreciation for what it's like for the Gaffer and Coaching Staff.

Not 100% sure on Flores, But at least we have signed a decent no 10. Thats been the issue since carle left, no decent attacking mid. James Brown was brought into the team to do the job, But wasnt able to do the job.
Flores has the pedigree, right age and skill. The worry is that he is coming off ACL injury and both hisl last clubs have shown him the
door in the mariners and victory. Is he coming as the marquee signing? Personally I would be looking for Visa players in the Secunda divison, second league in spain like Adelaide did or the bundesliga 2, where brisbane first picked up berisha.

I know of a few players that the jets had talked to a fair bit more exciting than a talented yet not consistent a-league journeyman that obviously didn't progress as planned. My opinion is my opinion, I don't WHINGE when someone doesn't agree with it. I'm more than happy with this signing provided on the right money and that we see Flores putting in for the team not just on the offensive end but also when asked to pressure defensively something he doesn't like to do. No way we could afford Rodriguez, his been shopped around to A-League clubs by his agent. That doesn't mean we've talk to the player it's more than likely his agent has leaked that information to create interest in his client but I'm just speculating there. Ffs, I didn't say we were seriously in for him. Like has been said his agent was snooping around the a league seeing if there was any interest. My source said jets were approached but that's all he knows on that particular player. Ofcourse there is no chance of us signing a player of that pedigree until they are at least into their 30's. He left on pretty good terms, apparently.
Central Coast coach Phil Moss has moved to clear the air on the club's decision not to re-sign injured playmaker Marcos Flores for next Hyundai A-League season.
A serious knee injury in January cut-short the Argentine's season, with the club making the tough decision in March not to renew his contract beyond the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
The former Johnny Warren Medallist was angered by the Mariners' stance and has accused the club of not showing enough faith in his ability to recover from a full knee reconstruction.
With Flores such a popular figure amongst Mariners supporters, Moss has revealed the reasons behind the decision to provide some clarity for the fans.
"The decision to let Marcos go was an extremely tough one," Moss told www.footballaustralia.com.au on Saturday.
"Marcos asked for an early decision which is why I told him before the season was done, so it gave him a chance to look around for something else.
"The pure and simple fact was because he got injured I had to move to get a replacement number 10 in and in the end we found a player of Kim's (Seung-yong) quality.
"We picked up Glen Trifiro from the state league who has done extremely well and we've got the best young up and coming number 10 out of the AIS, Anthony Kalik.
"For the balance of the squad I can't justify having four number 10's. That's the pure and simple fact."
With Kim, Trifiro and Kalik already secured on deals for next season, Moss conceded Flores' unfortunate injury – and the form and ability of the other trio - forced his hand.
"The players that have come in have taken their opportunities with both hands and it really gave me no option in the end," the Mariners boss said.
"It had nothing to do with my lack of belief in Marcos' ability.
"He got injured on January 2 and I couldn't afford to go the rest of the season without a specialist number 10.
"I never planned to go looking for another number 10 (in January) but he got injured so I had to try and find a replacement."
Flores flies out of Australia on Sunday to continue his rehabilitation is his homeland in Argentina but hopes to return to the A-League with another club next season.
While aware the 28-year-old may have a point to prove to his former club if he returns, Moss hopes Flores and his talent is not lost to the Australian competition.
"I bear no hard feelings towards Marcos. He's a great guy and is obviously hurting," Moss said.
"These things happen in football and what he needs to realise is it's a football decision, not a personal decision.
"I've got no doubt if he goes somewhere else in the A-League he'll be affective. But unfortunately for the balance of our squad I just can't justify four number 10's in our squad."

I've read plenty of people complaining about how it will break the league... but the thing is, unless Man City or NY City sign all of the best Australian players and then loan them here inside the cap (not forgetting that NYCFC have a cap as well), there is still a limit to what they can spend. One hugely expensive guest player, one hugely expensive non Oz marquee and then an Oz marquee... that doesn't exactly break the league for me.

Not if it gets silly and the clubs go broke trying to keep up.
Or if the celebrity watchers who turn up aren't converted to regular fans.
The adp experiment at Sydney worked for two years as it filled the clubs coffers with sponsors and corporate money....... the long term success will only be measured by how much of that, and the new fans, hangs around now that adp has gone.

That article in no way suggests he is marquee. In fact, the closing paragraph would indicate he is NOT marquee.
Duff’s signing is unlikely to be the end of City’s business deals before the new season starts. They have room for five more players in their 23 man squad. Duff is the club’s third “Visa” player, with the club able to sign two more, as well as an international marquee. Marquee players are exempt from the salary cap.

This is the press release from MC. Specifically makes no mention of the number of games or guest role. He may end up as the Guest but he May be marquee or under the cap (ridiculously should the majority of his wages be paid by NYCFC)

Would be surprised if any Taggz deal is close to signature - Timmy could get injured tonight and Taggz may nick a goal against Spain and inflate his profile and price. Probably talking and that's it.

Taggart has a $400,000 transfer cap in his contract, that's not a release claws but you would think after his Golden boot season his transfer value would be in advance of that figure. So his world cup form can't inflating his price it may open up more destinations for him but.

Good place for him to go to if he had to go somewhere in England. I understand why he didn't do this since he is at his highest point right now, but there is a chance the season gone was just a lucky one so it would have been better for him to stay at Jets for another season to see if he could pull off something similar. I mean, I feel as though Rojas was a much better all around player then Taggart and I have heard **** all about him since he left

I guess this depends who he signs in the place you had planned for Burns.
Really i think burns spot has been well and truly taken by Griff and Carney anyway.
Burns was great for us but players come and go, lets hope our new signings will be of equal or better quality but in the positions we need.

Potentially, but it ties into the whole we'll be announcing a new striker in the next 2-3 days, 3 weeks later and nothing. Fact is our upper management is the worst in the league (perth doesn't count).
Tbh, we should have made a spot for Burns, Griff (much as I love him) doesn't have many years left, while Burns is proven at this level, and potentially should have taken the spot of someone like Virgilli who has 1 good game every blue moon. Burns or Virgilli? I'd take Burns. Cap isn't an issue, we don't have any marquees.

Maybe Middleby and the club management weren't the reason for Burns not signing. It is completely likely, probably more likely, that Stubbins didn't feel there was space for Burns given the recruits made at the back end of last season and the signings he has made. and now wants to bolster other parts of the squad.
If thats the case, I don't see the problem. Burns role is pretty well covered at the moment anyway.

Bring back the forums i say, im pissed off we never approached Yaya Toure after he said he wasn't happy at man city and i want to blast Middleby for that!
Was really hoping Burns would come back but with the guys Porksey has pointed out, we've got some definite, proven firepower that I daresay aren't all on minimum wage :rof: so maybe we just couldn't afford him and he had a better financial offer elsewhere.

24-06-2014, 02:08 PM
Only reason I can think of is that the positions Burns plays in are already filled out by other guys. Carney is gonna fill the left side, Flores if CAM and Griff and South American will be strikers. Personally, it's not the biggest loss in the world, Carney was amazing last season and now that he has a full off-season he should be fine. I think with a good coach that keeps him consistent Virgili could be a good player in that position, and same goes for Goodwin. More then anything, I just wanted us to sign somebody after what has felt like ages of being promised a few people and getting no results.
Thomas477
24-06-2014, 02:19 PM
Okay, and what happens if a Carney gets injured and Griff gets suspended? We'll have Goodwin and Virgilli, which after the last 2 years doesn't fill me with confidence. Or if Taggz does go, and we sign this mysterious South American who's taking longer than Bridgey to return from injury to sign, who's the backup striker?
Wage wouldn't be an issue, we still have 2 marquees to use, chuck Carney as Aust. marquee and that'll free up more space.
Having Burns would provide a bit of quality depth to our squad, which apart from CM, is dearly lacking.

If you go back and read the quotes from Stubbins from a month back its pretty clear that Burns wasn't really in his sights.
Yo Nathan Burns - come back to the Jerks where you'll be on less money than you were overseas or could get in another HAL team, where you'd be considered quality depth without a guarenteed starting spot, and where you'll probably get followed by a pack of dropkicks who change their twitter name every season or two.

Ahhh thats exactly right. Look I would have killed to have Burnsy back in the team but IMO once we signed Carney we were never interested in Burns. This has nothing to do with Middleby and everything to do with where Stubbins wants to spend the player budget.

Well there you go. Didn't see that coming! I thought he'd have come back here but as others have said we've got those spots covered. And he wouldn't really be happy sitting on the bench.
The replacements of Goodwin and Virgilli are fine for a salary capped league. Not many clubs can have starting players sitting in the stands waiting for an injury or suspension. There has to be some give in a squad.
He took his time to show form for us. Yeah I'd have liked to see him back but that's football.
And why is Middleby getting blamed for all of this? There are many stakeholders in a deal
