Anyone catch the result between Croatia and Dudley, Want to know how they can deal with a higher end team
They couldn?t 5-0. Biggest cheers was from the Croatia players at full time when they got to stop chasing shadows. Looked like Dudley were missing the whole back 4.

Both teams missing a fair few of regular starters.
Seems Dudley?s depth was the difference and could cover the losses much better.

They had a couple of players fall foul of the new refs abuse enforcement as well. One in reserve grade and the other in 1sts. Both given 10 in the bin (basically) to cool off. One just happened to be "The Bad Boy of ZPL" Will McMaster
Swansea's reserve grade team weren't too bad in fairness, knocked the ball around well just lacking a bit up front

Last year?s top 5 will stay the same by some margin.
ZL2?s top 4 (Croatia, Crabs, Southern United and Stockton) would challenge for finals in ZL1. Would be a few clubs happy to weather the storm this season than get deservedly replaced.
Dudley beat Croatia 5-0 a few weeks ago. I?d suggest the ZL2 teams are a little way off the top 2-3 teams in ZL1. I do think those teams would/could finish 4th to 8/9th

Top 4. Cruises ? A trial game when I?m sure both teams wouldn?t have been full strength - all it shows is Dudley has better depth to cover the missing players.
Anyway like I said before they don?t have to worry about it this year so don?t know why they keep getting brought up here in zone 1 chat.

Other than the Olympic result over Mayfield things went pretty much to script over the weekend.
Olympic were solid in their first year of the top grade so I probably shouldn?t have underestimated them.
Mayfield are always quality and will bounce back from that.
Bay too good for a depleted Westlakes. Even the one goal had some question marks on it with the GK cleaned up on the goal line when a free kick was put in high. Couldn?t see what actually happened as there were about 15 blokes all around it, but GK finished on the deck with rib injury
30 goals in the opening round.
It?s a bit of an anticlimax now having the week off.

yep sure did.
Take the result in the end, shows us what we have to do moving forward, compared to last year.
Wasn't a bad game for the 1st game of the season from both sides, i dont think either side played to their full potential.
Picked up 2 bad ankle injuries in lower grades and 1st grade keeper went to hospital straight after the game and failed concussion test.
So the knock he took at about the 60min mark wasn't an act.

a bit of grit, a bit of luck they couldn't hit the side of a barn from 2 foot, bit of this, bit of that and that's football my friend.
They no doubt had more chances in both grades, but in the end goals win games and goals draw games (dudley 79min).
Cheers

Haha it seems that way! The banter is fun, but old mate seems to only have one thing on his mind. I guess it’s better to be talked about than not at all..
I don’t even talk about the Suns performances or brag at all, so I’m not sure what the gripe is about. I don’t bag out WB either, so I’m not sure what the go is.
It’s a shame both those games on the same day. Been a while since Suns and Dudley have played early in the season. It’s often been one of the later rounds which I think usually has both teams hit the ground running by then. Both those fixtures should be a good watch!

Who else thinks this new rule that 2 duty officers are needed to walk all the referees on and off the field is ridiculous? Where have the referees been in any danger? All clubs have so much more things to worry about on game days than this, if the club's duty officers home or away are doing what they're meant to this wouldn't be necessary.
if the club's duty officers home or away are doing what they're meant to this wouldn't be necessary.
That?s the issue. I?ve seen clubs where the duty officer is on the beers with spectators and shouting abuse at the ref and linos.
Responsible clubs have to deal with this because some clubs won?t do the basics.
It?s not that big of an issue, but it could have been avoided if everyone was doing the right thing already

I have as a clubbie last year.
So much so that I stayed in the changing room for about an hour and made sure I left with a large group. Thankfully, the club I was involved with was the home team, but the way some people behave over a game is frankly embarrassing. I ended up getting messages through social media from people involved with the club. That’s not on.
Duty officers can only do so much with spectators, but they can’t really get involved with the players or team officials.

As for this, it doesn’t ****ing matter how bad a ref is, they’re human reffing a game. You threaten someone in the streets, the cops get called on you, but because it’s on a football field it’s okay? **** off, we don’t need or want you in the game.

From what Ive been told it wasnt one specific incident in Newcastle, rather a general unease at how referees were treated by crowds and coaching staff and the amount of young referees that have been lost to the game over the past few seasons. For the sake of everyone being able to get 3 qualified, competent experienced officials every game means they need to be looked after a bit better. This is one measure. If referees feel better for having it,and people think twice before having a dig at a minor earning a couple of dollars then good. Its all tied back to the crackdown on language/abuse etc this season. But incidents are few and far between and the majority of clubs self police pretty well so I dont think its a big deal to have them there (and yes I know you werent saying that, just thought id try and answer your question).

Unless, I may have switched off at one point and missed it but, I'm pretty I wouldn't very active at these meetings look our club will support this regardless as its required just couldn't make any sense of it at the time when I arrived to our round 1 game when asked by others in my committee and club, that's all.

Council have said any works must be completed by their contractors and no budget has been allocated for the ground in the near future.
I think some grants have been applied for, fingers crossed one of those come through and some work can get done.
Long term the development in the area will provide new or upgrade current sporting fields, but I'd guess that's 10+ years away.

I think it's far from a two horse race.
Olympic go clear top if they win game in hand. Warners Bay and Kotara go to the same points as Suns if they win games in hand. Dudley without doubt going to be there who are the fifth team undefeated still.
It's fun making predictions, but those top 5 teams somehow there has only been two games between them being Kotara/W Bay and Dudley/Suns which were both draws. The next few weeks will see that change. So I'm keen to see how everyone stacks up after that.
Not sure what this weather is going to dish out, but if W Bay and Dudley play on Sunday, that should be a cracker.

Olympic will come crashing right back down to earth once they play any of the 4 teams you mentioned. Well done to them on taking advantage of a fortunate set of fixtures to start the season though.
So does everyone still think it?s a 2 horse race or is Olympic the real deal? Or could anyone else come bolting out of the pack?
Olympic have firepower in the final third, but defensively may be vulnerable. Look who they have played and whilst they’ve won they have conceded plenty
As always, watch for Warners Bay !

What would club think if this was allowed?
Why couldnt clubs call off lower grades and play 1st only on days like today? Most grounds would have recovered for first grade today. If you played 1st and postponed others and when replaying 3rds and ressies. Your starting 11 from first grade cannot play at all. Even if your teams are short.
Those on the bench are usually reserve graders anyway.
Would this be an option? So much easier to play one night midweek instead of 2.

You will find that exact question will be asked of the zone leaders this week, i believe an email will be distributed around the clubs to garnish support for the idea, then tabled to the ZL bosses, sooner rather than later.
I have spoken with 4 other clubs about it and it was 100% support for the idea.
Mayfield and Cardiff asked on Thursday if it could be done this way, i think this will happen.
Northern already do this, even going the way of playing 1st grade before reggies i was told yesterday, but lets start with the basics 1st.

From what I have been told, they fielded 2/3 first graders from previous years. Fair play to them I guess

fielded about 6 former 1st graders from previous years to be factual, who are currently playing reggie's this year.

correct it is only reggies, not sure what all the fuss is about, i'm sure Suns and Dudley have former 1st graders playing reggies, thats how it works, i think?
Or is it if Cardiff wins, we have to be doing something dodgy?
Promoted, well sounds better than relegated..hahahahaha

He is probably not playing first grade fixture. Don't the rules state you can't feature in reserve grade and first grade starting sides in the same match day against the same opponent.

No wonder why they changed the competition name this year. Can hardly call it Zone Premier League anymore. Especially considering a Zl2 team has now beaten three zl1 teams in the cup.

Yes 3-1. Bit of controversy in both games but I personally thought Azzurri deserved the win in both. No refs supplied so Club ref and assistants
Lots of accusations of cheating by crowd and club official. Always happens when you dont get official refs, players and officials will try and assert control over the fill in.

3-1 in both games. Never an easy job taking the whistle. Definitely moments in both games that could have been different, but that's how it goes. Thanks to Scott for doing both games and hopefully we can try avoid more wet weather to get rid of these midweek games and club officials having to ref games.
Poor performances riddled with mistakes was the reason we lost those games though. Nobody on our end blaming the refereeing situation. Some serious backs against the wall defending from Azzurri in ressies second half has to be commended too.

Suppose it is even worse that it is not even the best ZL2 team that have dished out these beatings.

Olympic saying First grade is on tonight ?
My understanding was grades had to play in order ? Or has that changed now with the wash outs to just play when you can ?

Common sense would suggest the powers that be are allowing fixtures to be rescheduled out of order due to the growing back log of catch up games. Alleluia.
