Why not have ZL3 and ZL2 on the Saturday.
Kickoff times: 9, 11, 1, 3 and 5?
Then ZL1 on the Sunday
Are you going to host that grand final and be at the ground from 7am until 8pm? lol

Yeah I don't quite get the idea behind having ZL2 and ZL3 at the one ground. Not sure there's many, if any spectators that want to watch two games at the one time. Pretty hard to do really.

You were pretty quiet when Cardiff beat warners bay and kotara convincingly. Today, Suns just too good.
But going from bottom of table last year to your prediction of bottling semis this year. Guess the boys can take that as a complement of progression after they been written off early in the year, so thanks for that champion

Still seems to be plenty of wash out games yet to play. What is the Federation rules when re-playing games this late in the season? or is this season something of an outlier, I believe some clubs have 3 games to play still!
I did hear from a Minmi local that a bunch of blokes in purple shirts were seen doing a rain dance on their oval Wednesday night, seems to have done the trick!

It was a pretty extraordinary year with the wet weather. A lot was bad luck too, it would be good weather all week and flog down on a Friday night.
I feel clubs could have been less behind with fixtures if there was a bit more common-sense and leniency around the whole idea of not one grade out, all grades out. There were opportunities to cancel lower grades in the aim of getting one game on. The difference it makes for clubs being able to reschedule washouts over one night instead of two nights is massive. It's certainly telling now at this point of the season.
Should just be a 10 team comp with a spare weekend anyway.

I just think there are circumstances where the administrators need to be flexible. We've had days where only lower grades got on, but there's been a couple of times where it rained heavily the Friday and then Saturday was good weather. Pitch wasn't ready for games at 11am, but waiting a few hours and playing one grade would have been an option. Whether its one or two games getting on, it's a massive help. NPL do it regularly.

This almost never happens within the MF, NF & HVF hierachy. The comp management this year is the worst i've seen it. For the amount of money we fork out in affiliation fees, we deserve better from MiniRoos to ZL and everything in between.

Bit naive regarding club relations, but couldn?t suns draw on a magic 18s trial group ie magic send a ? 2nd ? selected group to play at suns 18s and similar at Dudley, could they draw on another NPL second 18 team. As I say not sure if this is possible regarding relationships.

Surely first grade teams don?t want to be playing a midweek game prior to semis. I would want to hope that Kotara and Uni aren?t waiting to see the results from the weekend before deciding ?if? they should/need to play the game. There are scenarios where if result go a certain way if they take a draw Cardiff would miss out on the Semis. That would be an absolute disgrace if let happen
As for 3rds in what world are Westlakes playing a midweek game after the season. You have trouble getting them to play on a Saturday.
Federation is playing with fire letting games occur after the final day of the season

Azzurri and Mayfield are still playing next Monday, I can understand Reserves playing as they can still make finals, but why bother with the other two? Just call it a draw and end it, neither can make finals or be relegated.
3rds is a tricky one and would be unfair to Cardiff. In firsts Kotara also still has to play Warners Bay, and they could mean the difference in the finals as well

So Westlakes are just going to hand Kotara an easy 3 points in a tight finals race in Res & 3rd? Poor form especially since according to squadi they managed to field teams against Warners Bay in all 3 grades for this weeks midweek fixtures.
This competition really needs to go back to being 10 teams.

They would have every right to be upset especially if it is an away match but they cant just be handed 3 points when everything is so close either. It might not be easy however if they have 3 matches left they are going to have to play Tues & Thurs next week.
It sucks but unfortunately with the weather this year this is what it has come down to.

If I was Kotara, I would play the already scheduled Westlakes game. No disrespect to Westlakes but surely 3 points (Westlakes form in last 5 shows best results of forfeit given by Minmi and 2-0 loss to Warners Bay, worst result is 10-0 loss to Dudley). Then if there is no time to get games played, take a point against Uni. That leaves Warners Bay and Cardiff with one game in hand only able to match them on the points table for 5th, but a mile off with goal difference. Surely Kotara's hand being forced here. It's a Round 6 game, one would suspect ample opportunity to have got this on.

They should have to play both games. Yes they will in all likelihood beat Westlakes but if they play that match that probably gives uni a better chance of beating them in their other fixture and is what Cardiff & Wbay will be hoping for.
A Westlakes forfeit allows Kotara to put all their energy into the Uni game which they will most likely win and lock up a finals spot.

The Ressies and Thirds Rd 6 catchup for us was originally washed out then washed out again at which point poor Kotara had every weekend and midweek booked out with catchups until this extra week they have created at the end of the season.

Just had a look at tables Mario and agree it doesn't appear fair in 3rds.
In 1st grade - W Bay v Kotara Rd 14 still outstanding, with no scheduled date in Squadi from what I can see. Shouldn't this be declared a draw if not completed before Saturday's final round?
Cardiff are disadvantaged here for me. Cardiff have done hard yards to get games played before weekend, but Kotara get the benefit of seeing if they get a result v Dudley on Saturday, and if they don't then a chance against Bay next week if Cardiff lose? Unless I'm missing something, doesn't seem right and may impact top 5. Bit of bet hedging.
All clubs should be all in on last day of season. That?s why kickoff time is 2-30 on same day for everyone.

Cardiff have every right in both grades to blow up. The rest of the top 5 are all up to date. So 6 of the top 8 are up to date. All those teams did everything in their power to get it done cause they are under the impression that if it?s not done by Sunday it would be a draw. Whats the point of everyone playing Saturday then and spreading the refs thin if they let games after the final day.

I agree with this. I am not having a dig at kotara but all clubs have been faced with the same circumstances this season. And if the matches have not been able to be played perhaps they should be declared a draw. Would be a shame for the likes of Cardiff not knowing by the conclusion of Saturdays play whether they will be playing finals football or not.

You are right, this is not fair at all. Most of the top 3rd grade teams are getting a plus 6 to 8 goal difference boost from their game against Westlakes. A forfeit only gives +3.

That?s all a time ? choke? job for the Suns, been the form team for years. Suddenly when promotion is on the line they have to play the 3rd grade GK in first grade and yeah the Palozzi?s need to play Ressies to get back into form.

Will be interesting in the coming years who comes out of this comp and is promoted. Suns I think will next year and if Croatia spend they will in the near future. NL1 in 4-5years will be like the best ZL1 clubs now plus a few from NL1 now. None will have juniors to be able to go to NPL and promotion to the top grade will happen every now and then like the old days.
Promotion/Relegation goes on the top grade why should not having juniors stop say Dudley going up if the win next year when it?s only first grade that counts

I agree with what you?re saying and also believe Suns are nailed on to go up next season. I can?t help but feel the federation would probably prefer clubs like Kotara, Mayfield & Warners Bay clubs who either have a large junior base or the ability to realign with them (Mayfield) to move up though.

Well I guess Dudley don't get to lose their third team now, except instead of a bunch of old blokes it is now a bunch of U18s they need to organise.
Well done to Suns for figuring out how to stay in the comp, and next year this thread gets even more Croatia talk then before #samocroatia.

There are teams already in that comp like Toronto and Singleton whose kids gets flogged every week. Why add more teams and dilute it further.

I go and watch most weeks and have missed maybe 6 games all year but first grade always have 3-4 fresh players on the bench. If you?re not in the first 15 are you meant to miss out. That?s just having a strong club if you have 15-18 players that are up to playing first grade and other clubs see as first graders

With the current setup, Toronto teams only had 4 games where the score difference was 5 or more during the second phase. 2 of them was Toronto winning by 5 or more. Hardly being flogged every week.

Same as Kotara. Their first grade are still in the hunt for finals so why would they purposely jeopardise it. Mayfield firsts have been average all season so unless they have been stacking right from the start I dont see any issue there either.

I know there was talk of Uni playing first graders against the Suns in a midweek third grade fixture earlier in the season (which ironically ended up costing Suns a premiership). However Kicktheball has provided 3 poor examples here.

yep and they are a little confusing, but in the end is as follows i believe.
EX: jimmy plays 10 games in reggies, plays 9 games in 1st he is eligible for reggies but can play higher.
pauly plays 5 games in 3rds, 4 games in reggies and 2 games in 1st, he is 3rd grader, but can play higher.
It gets little more complex when you break down more scenarios that can arise.
Also, as 3rds in our comp don't really have starting 11 in squaddie, the whole 16 on the sheet count as 3rd grade, this will be cancelled out if you start a higher grade on that day.
This also applies to if you start or bench a lower grade, then start higher, the higher one is counted for the day.
There is no more being a 1st grader or Reserve grader and dropping down a grade to sit on the bench as previous years to play in the finals.
There is a section within Squaddie your club admin can look it up. If anyone needs to know how to access, PM me and i send how to do it.

To make it simple . The grade a Player has started the highest percentage of their Matches in is the lowest grade in which they are eligible to participate in the Final Series.
So if a player started 15 1st grade games but also started 12 reserves grade games then he is only eligible for 1st. If a player started in both equal than the lowest one counts.
The other rule is that players are only allowed to start in one Final per weekend regardless of what grades they are eligible for.

Taffy, need to drop the percentages, in squaddie you need to look at the started column, % is skewed towards games participated in, not games started.

Here's the rules and regs - Page 43. Taffy seems to be across them, if others are unsure they should read them, it is only one and a bit pages for finals eligibility. https://www.northernnswfootball.com.au/sites/nnswf/files/2024-04/regulation_e_-_playing_rules_-_zone_football_league_competitions.pdf
My interpretation.
Highest percentage of matches played in a grade is the lowest you can play for finals. (E50 1a)
The highest grade you started for in a round is considered the grade you played that round. (E50 1b)
If you were a bench player and didn't get on (and didn't play other grades in the round), then you didn't play that week. (E50 3)

The thing is that none of this is policed. Unless you have access to the opposing teams stats, there’s no way you can pull anyone up on it unless it’s obvious.
The other side of it, if you have three grades in the finals there’s no exception. Which is wild because your teams are already stretched. There needs to be some commonsense applied as no clubs with all grades are going to play higher grade players in lower teams. The rules applied block players from being able to get a shirt.

Taffy, understand and agree what it says, I also read that, but i was told by the hierarchy that the % are a bit skewed and if you went onto the Admin side of squaddie, you could see that better.
I think it's a Squaddie system fault, which squaddie has plenty of faults in it.

Surely this won't be the case, because it would mean more than 15 players have started in the higher grade for a majority of their games across the year.
Been like this in NL1 and NPL for a long time, don't think any player has ever missed out because of eligibility only through coaches choice.

I understand your confusion, let me elaborate my point.
I believe it's embarrassing because:
- final game of the season
- playing rivals Olympic
- Olympic only promoted in 2023
- Suns were basically full strength (minus the keeper)
- Olympic apparently missing 5 key first grade players (I heard this from a mate, someone from the club could dispute this if I'm off)
- bitter rivals Dudley breathing down their necks
- they only needed 1 point to seal the premiership and promotion
So it's not the loss to Olympic but the context and implications of losing which makes it embarrassing IMO... I think Suns will be ready to make things right and with the quality in their squad (IMO the best team in the comp) they could be deadly.
Also this is my 100th post on the forums so feel free to congratulate me for my service if you get a chance

I think there was a feeling from most on here (not lofty and the suns camp to be fair) that for weeks now the premiership and promotion was a forgone conclusion and the fact Dudley pipped them on the final day came as a shock to everyone. In isolation a loss away at Islington park is not an embarrassing result at all and could happen to any team in the comp.

Congrats on the tonne bud. Your most deluded post yet.
Despite Olympics second year in ZL1, they have spent accordingly and brought in quality former NPL product. Taking points on the final match day at Islington was always going to be a tough ask. Conceding a goal against the opposing goalkeeper didn?t help the situation either.
All things considered, I believe Suns will get their revenge, winning by a goal in a tight one tomorrow.

This is my routine after 95% of our games, just this week's went longer and got home a little bit later.
No one is touchy, and as Luke Littler said good tough game, both gave it their all...bring on 2025
are we finished now?

So can Dudley simply try and get youth for next season or do NNSW only have a certain amount if youth licences available?. If Dudley are not allowed to have youth they are basically playing for survival in Northern League 1 and they cannot be promoted. Sounds like a stupid system to me especially with no GF in Northern League 1

They are competing with Azzurri and Kahibah which are already established. Tough gig to draw from 3 neighbouring suburbs if your Dudley. Next year could be embarrassing if they finish in the top 4. Then what happens

Dudley can compete in NL1 without youth teams. However, under the current rules they cannot be promoted to NPL and they cannot compete in the promotion/relegation series. There are rules about a non eligible teams and I assume they are on the NNSWF website.
I am told there has been some discussion around Dudley getting an 18s should the 18s be removed from PYL, but as that is not happening (for now) it is only talk.
I have no doubt that Dudley will be very strong in NL1.

I noticed Dudley has interdistrict competition youth teams...what's to stop them simply paying the YL licence and saying they are now PYL teams (competition is a team short already anyway)
Wonder how much having the licence would add to their registration fees (the only negative consideration I can think of)

They can try to get youth, there is currently a free spot in there. To be honest, Dudley aren't getting promoted next year anyway, so perhaps focusing on survival first and then look for youth in 2026 is the better option.

Survival 😂. I think they would be disappointed in not making the top 4 with their current squad. I think if they are working towards youth in 2026 they should be eligible for promotion next year.
Also if they are trying for an 18?s the federation has to try and accommodate. The federation forced them up so the federation should be making exemptions to assist newly promoted clubs

If I?m not wrong Saturday was the first time this year Suns have been held scoreless. I can?t see that happening again. Way too much firepower up front.

Exemptions for what? They don't need youth including 18s that's the point.
If they manage to get youth for 2026 and they go up, highly unlikely that they will be, then they will be promoted to NPL.

They need to target some defenders. They have no dramas scoring goals but they can leak goals. They gave up nearly 1.5 goals a game. That will need to improve if they want to compete at the top of ZL1

Tend to agree, but worth noting that Olympic conceded 1.77 goals per game and were comfortably top 3. Even the Suns conceded 1.32 per game. Their firepower up front (>4 goals a game) is what got them to within a couple of points of winning the league.
Dudley conceded a miserly 0.59 goals per game. Goals win games, defence wins leagues.
I?d love to know how many of the Suns 90 goals were contributed by the main three up front.

It's more embarrassing for Dudley to be honest. Fancy having something like that for your players group chat name, as if they're in high school. It's actually a crack up.
There's evidently been plenty said in that chat, but again it only shows their own character. Good for them if that's the way they speak. Obviously someone within the group has thoughts that don't align and now it's been shared around to everyone.

You would be hard pressed to find a group chat for any of the clubs that does not have comments that push boundaries or in some cases go too far. Not making excuses for it but I doubt Dudley are the only ones to have said something unacceptable amongst the private banter of zone league clubs this season.

Like I said in regards to the name of the chat I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Basically in any league in world football if you are successful the chances are other clubs you play against are not going to like you. I wouldn’t take it personally if anything I would take it as a compliment.
Not sure what was in the actual chat but if it did cross a line then that is not on but I am still not sure it should have been shared publicly.

Yes and no. I agree with the dealing with it in house. The counter to that is that the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Clearly someone with a conscience wasn?t prepared to accept it. Maybe they tried dealing with it and when that didn?t work went outside the circle

Worst part of promotion is no more W*gs to smash
well I guess they are lucky there's no wogs in NPL or NL1 to worry about.
It's like the sequel to Powder every game day around those comps.

Glass houses mate. Maybe have a think about that before calling out the Azzurri women's player, who's playing legally under northerns current policy. Instead of directing your anger at the player and calling them a man, maybe talk to northern.
Discrimination works both ways, not just what suits your agenda.
I think enough has been said about this. Stuff shouldn't be said and stuff shouldn't be shared around.
Anyway, what are the predictions for the weekend? Looks like a good day.
How is what I said discrimination?. If you are born with a 1 X and a Y chromosome you are a male it?s that simple.
Just because a voice in your head tells you something else don?t mean we have to listen to it. I have a daughter that plays and if he plays against her one day and hits her in a 50/50 or worse I?ll identify as being invisible and storm the field and no one will see me do anything. :whistling:

Dudley to win but I think it’s going to be very close. Would not be surprised to see it decided in extra time or pens.
No chance it ends 11 on 11 either

Yeah wow, Dudley boys let themselves down big time. That community are stuck in the 80's it seems. Says a lot about that club now.
Been sitting back watching all the comments come in. Found this one a little strange, as it's having a go a the Dudley club itself?? Are you not a committee member at Suns?
Not sure if the Forum is an appropriate place to be making comments about another club by a committee member. It lacks professionalism

People like you are part of the problem. Astounding to think that in this whole episode, the only thing you care to critique is me saying the club have let themselves down in this incident.
So I'm guessing what was said is absolutely fine in your eyes? And me commenting on it is the only part that's out of order?
Firstly, I didn't bring this up. The conversation and the screenshot was being talked about before my comment above was made.
Would have loved to move on from this, but singling me out from all of this is wild. Give your head a wobble.

How many of the people's within said group chat are actually from Dudley (are they locals or players brought in from other parts of Newcastle) and how many committee members are in said group also.
I'm not condoning what was said within the chat, but to be calling out a whole community and a club for the words said in a private chat, I hope you have the exact numbers.
I bet there isn't a person on this forum that doesn't have a group chat with something in it that could be looked upon in bad light.

I'm more interested to hear Dudley's thoughts on being promoted? Is it good, bad? will they fight the "forced" promotion?
