Haha players from both teams have stated on here they thought the first goal was offside.
Pretty sure I read mussy complaining about a goal they thought was offside in the first round. Sounds like there is a crack in your glass house

could say the same about mussy atm.
only have to bring up the first few pages to see mussies complaints about a non offside ruling, and yet continually bring up westlakes complaining about a mussy refs ruling when even some of your players have said offside.
if you guys didnt keep brining it up it would be over by now lolz
Seeing as no one has written about the westlakes matches ill give it a crack.. Reggies for westlakes were sloppy in defence and were lucky to have their keeper stay on the park after he took out a player outside the box near the sideline. Hamiltons goals came of the back of well earnt fouls and it was a good tough match. Firsts.... Was tighter than the score line shows went to half time at 0-0 game got very physical in the second half but was good to see because it was a tough close match. When the slow cb scored the 2nd with a nice header off a corner that's when westlakes started to look in control and with about 10 mins remaining got a couple of goals on the counter to blow out the score. Good match with a bit of fire from both sides. Looking forward to the away trip.
[QUOTE=the_butcher;35901
Typical westlakes response, always trying to pass the buck[/QUOTE]
I think you mean muswellbrook. U guys have referenced westlakes in just about every one of your posts.
Of course The Butcher meant Muswellbrook. That's why he wrote Westlakes. He's weird like that.
Apparently the Westlakes CB was actually jumping for the corner before the one he scored off. It just took him so long to get of the ground that play had gone on, and another corner given. That corner hit him cleanly and luckily went in ;-)
Ressies was a good match. Good summary. Hamilton will feel hard done by not having keeper sent but I think the elephant touch by the striker was the only thing that saved him. Also after having a player sent in the last 5 with a straight red. I was bewildered as to why until I read the report to confirm what I was later told.
I enjoyed chatting to their ressies players which was a suprise to the contrast of their First grade. Keeper is quality and IMO should be their first grade keeper. Both teams had a chance to get a third. Westlakes with a pen shout that woulda been soft but by the book was a pen. Hamilton with the last play of the game from a keeper fumble. Draw fair result tho.
Disagree with the first grade summary tho. Hamilton were quality in first 20 but dropped off after that. Pretty sure it was 1-0 at break.
It was about 3-0 when it started to get heated. At 4-0 with 10 to go coach told our bench players (no subs used) to have a shower with one to cover for injuries.
Ahh k I must have missed the first half goal. Yes Hamilton were very good in the first 20. Was a good game all the same from my view
it was 0-0 at half time
Olympic will be a tough team to break down this year. their biggest enemy will be themselves though
their number 21, the smaller striker, is a weapon. a delight of a guy to play against too. to all the slow cbs out there - good luck with him
Im sorry i disagree Westlakes definitely deserved the win, but 4-0 was not a true reflection of the game. Olympic were the better team in the 1st half in my opinion. But at the end of the day it doesn't matter how much possession you have or how many chances you have unless you win. So good stuff westlakes.
Pretty well agree with everything in here. Firsts was a weird match with Mussy leading 2-0 at the break but then seemingly taking an extra 15 minutes chill time after the interval found themselves at 2-2. Re-gathers themselves late on to take the win. I think Charlestown will be a very strong outfit this season, with some very good individual talent. The only thing that let them down was lack of game time, it was pretty obvious that it was their first hit-out but I expect better things to come for them. Also credit to all the Charlestown lads, the game was played in a really competitive spirit but after the game everyone was happy to have a laugh and a beer, leaving any niggles on the field, which is how it should be. All in all a top bunch of blokes and looking forward to meeting them again in the second round!
Merewether v Charlestown last night.
Res : 2 - 4
1st: 0- 1
Reserve grade: This scoreline should have blown out with charlsetown missing atleast 4 easy chances (by easy I mean 6 yard box tap ins not going in.) in the final 15 minutes of play. Im pretty sure at one point charly were 2-1 down but deservedly walked away with the points as they dominated most of the game.
1st grade: Charly were hot out of the gates putting alot of early pressure on merewethers defence with 3 or 4 good chances that were not finished. half time 0-0, second half charlstown continued to dominate possession and pepper the merewether goal but to no avail. With 10 to go charlestown broke through with the winner and only goal by a cracking strike from about 25 yards into the top right corner. The final 10 minutes merewether put it to a nervous finishing charelstown who adopted a time wasting/kick to the corner mentality but failed to really create anything in the final third.
To be fair charlestown should have walked away comfortable winners but in the end did it tough for the 3 points.
On a side note, I noticed that the merewether goal keeper was intentionally time wasting for almost the entire game (until they were losing). He was trapping the ball instead of picking it up and forcing charlestowns strikers to shut him down before picking it up and playing on. I have never in my life seen this before and found it to be if anything poor sportmanship.
Meh. I think you're blowing this out of the water. Pretty sure any smart keeper slows the game down for a number of reasons. As you mentioned, charlie were dominating, and rather than just kicking the ball away and having it come straight back at him, by slowing the play down, it gives his team a chance to get their shape back, get their breath back, and potentially try to play the ball out from the back. It also disrupts charlie's game since they were well on top, and advance were getting little to nothing in midfield and up front, so hence aimlessly punting the ball long would have done nothing.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but i think its a bit much to criticise someone for bad sportsmanship when he was doing something alot of keepers have done, and will continue to do, at all levels of football. At 0-0, they werent looking to go direct, but of course 1-0 down, they had no choice other than to go direct and quickly, and hope for the best, but i hardly think that's their game plan for 90 minutes.
Cheers TXK, it's always a good trip up the valley, shame we only had 19 players and hence had to use 2 minibusses instead of a big coach for everyone, but it was a good day regardless, even if we didnt get the results we wanted.
as for the match....
Res 4-2 CCB
We did it the hard way, and after taking an early lead, got carried away trying to make the score 15-0 by halftime, rather than actually controlling the game and playing smart football.
As it often the case, you get punished in this division for wasting chances, and a terrible defensive error allowed merewether to equalise, and it went 1-1 at the break.
The second half was much of the same, before merewether produced a goal from nothing to take the lead, albeit somewhat undeserved (however, you gotta take your chances), before charlestown huffed and puffed and grabbed an equaliser with about 20 to go, before taking the lead with a great solo goal from our midfielder after receiving the ball from a throwin inside the box, before beating 2 players and scoring. We then got a 4th with a tap in, and couldve/shouldve had a few more, but 4-2 was fairly reflective of the game. Much like on Satdy v Mbrook, reserves just need to turn their domination and chances into goals, and they will be be right up there this season.
1sts 1-0 CCB
This was a very one sided match, with charlestown dominating from the onset. Numerous chances came and went, with a number of chances failing to work the keeper, which was the most disappointing aspect of the first half. Merewether always looked like they could knick one against the run of play, but our keeper went largely untested the entire match. 0-0 at ht, and it was more of the same in the second half as charlestown created more chances, but failed to seriously test the keeper and wasted a few more good chances before a cracking striker from our skipper from 25 yards arrowed into the top corner with 10 remaining. As advance threw everything at us, we largely defended and set up on the counter and created a few half chances, but 1-0 it finished.
While it took a cracking strike to win the game, it was no more than we deserved, but we'll need to make sure we arent relying on pieces of magic to win us games every week. If this game had finished 4-0 I think it still would've been a fair reflection of the game, with merewether missing a few players, and struggled to ever really get into the game, but 3 points is 3 points.
lol, what.
this happens in nearly every game of senior competitive football. from local leagues, to a-league, to champions league. the claim that you've never seen it happen in your life seems ridiculous - you must not watch any games, at all.
he's slowing the tempo of the game down btw, he's giving his team the opportunity to find their shape again & have a breather. it's like a scrum in rugby league.
Being a goal keeper its not unsportsman like. as a few have said its smart. It not only gives ur team time to regroup what it also does it pulls the striker out of his defensive position ( not that they do much of it haha) and gives ur defender the space to throw the ball short to him and keep possession and not pump it long into a 50-50.
Unless you take a defender out of play im going to stand here all fcking day, sounds fair.
Finally we can talk about the football again!?
Today's matches:
CCB @ Olympic
Merewether @ Uni
Westlakes @ Jesmond
M'Brook @ Tenambit
Some quality games there. Jesmond have promised big things and started well, will be looking to make a statement against Westlakes, if they can get a touch of the ball of course.
Mussy should take care of Tenambit, but the other 3 games will be even contests id say.
Westlakes v jesmond is @ westlakes
Hamilton Vs Charlestown
Reserves
1 - 2
First
1 - 4
Merewether vs uni
Res: 1-3 uni dominated basically the whole game but merewether went up 1-0 into half time. Uni scored 3 in the last half hour to take the win.
Firsts: 1-4 uni came out well and scored 2 early goals. Game evened up after that and merewether hit the post late in the half. Uni then scored after the half before merewether scored one. Both teams had chances towards the end but it was uni who got another with merewether hitting the bar a couple of times.
Jesmond v westlakes @ westlakes. Reserve grade 3-1 to westlakes, first gade 1-0 to jesmond.
( westlakes players and supporters insert whinge about refrees being the only reason they lost here)
Haha that's funny there was a bad call for the goal but that's life. Westlakes couldn't score so we can't pay claims to a win. But of bad luck but that's the way it goes. Well done to jesmond
happens every week. someone from westlakes blaiming the ref.. sure theres bad calls in soccer but every week its a different ref and every week they loose whats the common deminator here. The shitness of the team! stop with the excuses!
