Meh. I think you're blowing this out of the water. Pretty sure any smart keeper slows the game down for a number of reasons. As you mentioned, charlie were dominating, and rather than just kicking the ball away and having it come straight back at him, by slowing the play down, it gives his team a chance to get their shape back, get their breath back, and potentially try to play the ball out from the back. It also disrupts charlie's game since they were well on top, and advance were getting little to nothing in midfield and up front, so hence aimlessly punting the ball long would have done nothing.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but i think its a bit much to criticise someone for bad sportsmanship when he was doing something alot of keepers have done, and will continue to do, at all levels of football. At 0-0, they werent looking to go direct, but of course 1-0 down, they had no choice other than to go direct and quickly, and hope for the best, but i hardly think that's their game plan for 90 minutes.
Cheers TXK, it's always a good trip up the valley, shame we only had 19 players and hence had to use 2 minibusses instead of a big coach for everyone, but it was a good day regardless, even if we didnt get the results we wanted.
When I grow up, I want to be Yohan Cabaye.
as for the match....
Res 4-2 CCB
We did it the hard way, and after taking an early lead, got carried away trying to make the score 15-0 by halftime, rather than actually controlling the game and playing smart football.
As it often the case, you get punished in this division for wasting chances, and a terrible defensive error allowed merewether to equalise, and it went 1-1 at the break.
The second half was much of the same, before merewether produced a goal from nothing to take the lead, albeit somewhat undeserved (however, you gotta take your chances), before charlestown huffed and puffed and grabbed an equaliser with about 20 to go, before taking the lead with a great solo goal from our midfielder after receiving the ball from a throwin inside the box, before beating 2 players and scoring. We then got a 4th with a tap in, and couldve/shouldve had a few more, but 4-2 was fairly reflective of the game. Much like on Satdy v Mbrook, reserves just need to turn their domination and chances into goals, and they will be be right up there this season.
1sts 1-0 CCB
This was a very one sided match, with charlestown dominating from the onset. Numerous chances came and went, with a number of chances failing to work the keeper, which was the most disappointing aspect of the first half. Merewether always looked like they could knick one against the run of play, but our keeper went largely untested the entire match. 0-0 at ht, and it was more of the same in the second half as charlestown created more chances, but failed to seriously test the keeper and wasted a few more good chances before a cracking striker from our skipper from 25 yards arrowed into the top corner with 10 remaining. As advance threw everything at us, we largely defended and set up on the counter and created a few half chances, but 1-0 it finished.
While it took a cracking strike to win the game, it was no more than we deserved, but we'll need to make sure we arent relying on pieces of magic to win us games every week. If this game had finished 4-0 I think it still would've been a fair reflection of the game, with merewether missing a few players, and struggled to ever really get into the game, but 3 points is 3 points.

lol, what.
this happens in nearly every game of senior competitive football. from local leagues, to a-league, to champions league. the claim that you've never seen it happen in your life seems ridiculous - you must not watch any games, at all.
he's slowing the tempo of the game down btw, he's giving his team the opportunity to find their shape again & have a breather. it's like a scrum in rugby league.
Being a goal keeper its not unsportsman like. as a few have said its smart. It not only gives ur team time to regroup what it also does it pulls the striker out of his defensive position ( not that they do much of it haha) and gives ur defender the space to throw the ball short to him and keep possession and not pump it long into a 50-50.
Unless you take a defender out of play im going to stand here all fcking day, sounds fair.
Finally we can talk about the football again!?
Today's matches:
CCB @ Olympic
Merewether @ Uni
Westlakes @ Jesmond
M'Brook @ Tenambit
Some quality games there. Jesmond have promised big things and started well, will be looking to make a statement against Westlakes, if they can get a touch of the ball of course.
Mussy should take care of Tenambit, but the other 3 games will be even contests id say.

Hamilton Vs Charlestown
Reserves
1 - 2
First
1 - 4
Merewether vs uni
Res: 1-3 uni dominated basically the whole game but merewether went up 1-0 into half time. Uni scored 3 in the last half hour to take the win.
Firsts: 1-4 uni came out well and scored 2 early goals. Game evened up after that and merewether hit the post late in the half. Uni then scored after the half before merewether scored one. Both teams had chances towards the end but it was uni who got another with merewether hitting the bar a couple of times.
Jesmond v westlakes @ westlakes. Reserve grade 3-1 to westlakes, first gade 1-0 to jesmond.
( westlakes players and supporters insert whinge about refrees being the only reason they lost here)
Haha that's funny there was a bad call for the goal but that's life. Westlakes couldn't score so we can't pay claims to a win. But of bad luck but that's the way it goes. Well done to jesmond
happens every week. someone from westlakes blaiming the ref.. sure theres bad calls in soccer but every week its a different ref and every week they loose whats the common deminator here. The shitness of the team! stop with the excuses!
