Reserve grade: This scoreline should have blown out with charlsetown missing atleast 4 easy chances (by easy I mean 6 yard box tap ins not going in.) in the final 15 minutes of play. 1st grade: Charly were hot out of the gates putting alot of early pressure on merewethers defence with 3 or 4 good chances that were not finished. half time 0-0, second half charlstown continued to dominate possession and pepper the merewether goal but to no avail. With 10 to go charlestown broke through with the winner and only goal by a cracking strike from about 25 yards into the top right corner. The final 10 minutes merewether put it to a nervous finishing charelstown who adopted a time wasting/kick to the corner mentality but failed to really create anything in the final third.
To be fair charlestown should have walked away comfortable winners but in the end did it tough for the 3 points.
On a side note, I noticed that the merewether goal keeper was intentionally time wasting for almost the entire game (until they were losing). He was trapping the ball instead of picking it up and forcing charlestowns strikers to shut him down before picking it up and playing on. I have never in my life seen this before and found it to be if anything poor sportmanship.
