Sydney FC have produced the best young players for the last 5 years. So I don't have a problem in the signing of him as a player.
Clayton Taylor never got a first team look in at Sydney and look at how well he went. I wouldn't judge this year's Sydney FC NSW NPL team as they are an extremely young team.
What does concern me about the signing is the fact he is on loan. I think part of the ownership model is getting young players to sell on, unless he signs on with the jets at seasons end we would have been better to get a free agent.
Yeah I don't like the loan signing either. It only really works in our favour if he is a squaddie that doesn't get much game time and doesn't look like an improvement prospect, in which case why sign him.
If he has a killer season, then he goes back to Sydney where they can reap the benefit of his game time with us.
Having said that, contracts in the league are a joke anyway, so its possible that if he likes it here and it works for both parties then the loan will become permanent with a "mutual termination", and the loan is just a method to get him to us sooner.
Joey champness to Auckland, I forgot about that kid who?s now 27, be playing in Turkey whilst pumping out the tunes

$530,000 towards the salary cap, it use to be $3.6 mil, the tv deal hasn?t changed, the APL still receives their money, where?s the cash gone
The boss of Disney just brought a controlling share in a NWSL 'franchise' at a value of just under $300m.
These A-league owners are playing the long game. Whether they get there or not in the short term is subjective, but don't doubt their motives.
It will come, but there's much work to be done.
I read an article on CodeSports further explaining the decision and while at a business-level what you say makes sense (i.e. living within their means) it called out the Collective Bargaining Agreement has set out minimum spend on wages.
I'd then anticipate any move to reduce this would trigger action from the PFA.
Really is a mess.

It will all be a mess for the next 2 seasons which is the remaining contract period with paramount.
Who knows what interest there will be for the tv rights new deal and you would imagine the money won't be great.
Your reply got me thinking further and in a different way how snookered the owners are with the current arrangements (CBA and APL competition rules), as I understand them.
Owners have to:
- Have a minimum squad of 23 players.
- Spend a minimum percentage of the salary cap (90% if I recall)
- But the CBA would outline the minimum wages for full time players too.
Arguably, an owner could recruit a team of young players, like we have. They would have a lower wage compared to older players so you could reduce your spend that way....but you have to spend the floor of the cap. So how do you make up the difference...do you have a few older players that you possibly end up over paying just to meet that floor?
So, yeah I agree with you about the rules being dictated to owners and would say concessions are needed for them - specifically a minimum cap spend reduction. Owners are between a rock and a hard place.
But the owners also have a seat at the table of the APL - that's why to comp broke away so they would. So shouldn't they be able to change some of those comp rules?
Happy for others to flag if I have misunderstandings above.

Not all owners have equal say JP, This was Sage's concerns from the outset, He was justified in his gripe that a handful of clubs on the East Coast had all the say on critical decisions. We know which 4 clubs he was referring to. You only need look who was the previous chair and a few handpicked individuals from the 3 others.
Collectively individuals from those 4 clubs have stuffed the national competition once they were making decisions at the APL.

Bad news for a new young signing of ours. Oscar Fryer.
Did his Acl at training on Tuesday and will miss the season.
He is likely to be replaced in the squad by another signing.
The club is still looking to bring in 3 more players.
As per Newcastle Herald article.
We?ve signed Lachlan Rose, not sure for how long. Will play in Australia Cup game.
