I feel like over the last month I've had arguments with people a lot about how they don't rate Milligan and McKay for the Socceroos. I thought both of them were outstanding (as I usually do) last night. Would also like to give a big shoutout to my main man MFAW in regards to him saying he doesn't rate Juric I still can't believe you were rallying for Alex Wilkinson to be in the Socceroos for all this time - we're so much fxxxing better without him!

Love that Spira is still Spira. I've loved that guy since I first saw him.

And I copped a lot of shit for my views in the past (and probably always will) but far out, Sainsbury is good!
    OK

McKay (apart from the left back era) has never had a "bad" game for the Socceroos I can recall. But he doesn't have any kind of x-factor and can't break a game apart like Luongo did in the first half. And don't mention the long ball to Juric... Jobe/Zad/any other average midfielder would have done the same, it's not some glorious bit of amazing football when the other team is pushing hard for a goal.

And that's ignoring the fact that he has been average in an average side this year... shouldn't even be in the squad in the first case. Form my arse. Ange out. (not really)

McKay and milligan while impressive for me last night are no value when the pressures on

i reckon jedinak does both there jobs hence no need for him.

    i personally would be playing

jedinak, luongo and tommy oar as my 3

tommy has played in the hole for utrect all season.

As much as Bresciano has been a loyal foot soldier for Socceroos over the years last night showed that Ange needs to pension him off.

First half we attacked at speed with a high tempo game and looked fantastic.

Second half Bresciano comes on the attack speed plummets and we don't look as good.

Going forward with the likes of Luongo Sarota DeSilva Antonio and even Tommy Rogic hopefully this tourney will be his swan song.

Not knocking his ability but the way Ange is playing he is a square peg in a round hole

    Wilkinson? Jedinak? Ryan? Sainsbury?
The amount of gypo love on here is a disgrace.
You blokes may as well start referring to Newy as Gosford Heights.

    Gypo lovers OUT.

Imagine if Beard hadn't shat the bed in his first Serie A game and Taggart wasn't injured... could have had over half the starting line up as former F3 derby mad cvnts.

Juric is probably one of the best natural goal scorers in Australia atm, he's just got that knack, plus it helps him being a gigantor, getting on the end of crosses

The beauty of McKay is he is Ange's perfect player.

Ange (and all international coaches) get bugger all time with their squad to implement their system. McKay is so adaptable to everything, and knows Ange's philosophy backwards.

No, he won't provide the X-factor of Luongo. No, he won't score like Cahill. But he does his job, which is exactly why he is the perfect option for Ange.

We can't play a lone holding mid unless we have Jedinak. When Jedi is out, we don't have the quality to replace him with one man so need to go to 2. This works perfectly with Milligan/McKay because Milligan does the yards defensively, and McKay follows the ball around like a puppy dog and will rarely if ever turn over possession. And that's good, because we have some highly active, mobile players in Leckie, Troisi, Luongo, Kruse, Oar that we move the ball around, and switch it, a lot. And we're lucky to have someone of McKay's engine-room to be the outlet for those players. How often do you see in a Jerks game we switch the ball and the guy (usually Hoole, or Carney) who gets it on the wing is just compeltely isolated. This rarely happens when McKay is on the field for Australia.

After saying all that, I'm not sold on Oar still tbh. And I'd definitely not play him in the hole at this level, particularly now that all of our remaining games are against top opposition.

MFAW saying Matt Simon is better than anyone smh ops:
    OK

    No troll.

Fully believe Juric is over rated something shocking. WLG will confirm I have low opinion on Juric

This is absolutely spot on, the bloke just works so hard and does the basics. No he doesn't have the X factor but you don't need every single player in your team to play killer passes. With Luongo, Troisi, Leckie, Kruse and Oar there are plent of blokes who will pick the ball up off him and try to do something with it. His cover of Milligan (who i also thought was brilliant) was great.

I also agree that when Jedinak plays, he does the job of these two combined which gives you the luxury of another forward player. In my opinion, right now on form, that extra player should be Troisi. Oar has so much potential, its obvious he does it for his club side, but he is still yet to really find his feet at international level.

Juric has a ton of skill / ability but lacks consistency. If he ever becomes consistent he will be playing in Europe.
Happy to see him playing for Australia and won't be suprised if he one day makes the grade so to speak in Europe.
Alternatively, I won't be suprised if he still lacks consistency in ten years time either.

So we've booked a spot in the quarters, what do we do against South Korea? Do we play a second string team and rest our first teamers? Will this disrupt our cohesion?

I think momentum plays a massive part and we should play a number of our first teamers but rest a few.

    -------------Ryan---------------

    Herd----Sains------Spira----Aziz

    ------------Milli----------------

    ------Luongo------McKay-----

    Kruse-------Juric---------Burns

Newy crowd till seems well short...guess we'll never know the true crowd.

And apparently max stadium capacity is 22,000 for this tournament !!?? So, if Japan v Aus is on in the semi the stadium cannot be filled as those on the hill are people who bought seats and just moved.

I think we should be trying to top the group. I assume Uzbekistan will top Group B, which would see us likely play Saudi Arabia or China. Saudi Arabia without Al Spitter is a good fixture for us, I think.

In saying that, this Korea game will be a good chance for us to keep our cards closer to our chest when facing better opposition, as well as give us a chance to rest injuries/fatigue/etc.

It'd probably be best for all our players on a yellow to play this one, so they get potentially suspended for our first game out of the group rather than further into the tournament.
    OK

I think it will be much the same with a couple more rotations.
Davidson, Franjic and Kruse to rest (Kruse off the bench though)
Behich, Herd and Burns to come in.
Cahill to still only play maybe 50-60 minutes and Juric the rest

I don't think it matter who we play in the next match, i think we have all 3 of Uzbeks, Saudis and China covered. Its more falling to Japans side of the draw which is the biggest thing to avoid. We want to play them in the final!

We don't win group we play Japan in Newy.

Who gives a **** about the final.

Would rather this happened and we missed final just to see Socceroo play a huge game in Newy

Aust - Japan in Newy would be awesome but 3 points V South Korea could improve our FIFA ranking further....so split on that one!!!!
