Hoole is such a raw talent and with the right coaching could become a great player. Honestly for his own good and the good of a possible future socceroo i would like to see him go.
Definitely agree. Have heard that the squad is extremely top heavy salary wise with a few players on big big money and I would guess that Carney is one of them.
If we were in the top 2 and shedding players it would be something to worry about. Shedding players in the bottom 2 is a godsend
How is it advantageous for us to free up wage space? We don't pay players salaries - the FFA do. And if we use less of the allocated funds available, the FFA doesn't give us that money.
OK

The TV deal money is only for the salary cap. Clubs don't receive the leftover money if they don't fully use the cap. And also, it's not just one big lump sum given to each club that they can spend however - it is specifically for player payments.
That's why the month or two back when we weren't paying our staff, there was no mention of players not getting their wage and it was only backroom staff that were the worry - because the backroom staff are the operating costs the club actually have to fork out for themselves.
If I'm led to believe correctly, the FFA work in yearly-quarters as to when they review the amount of salary cap each club has used (as it obviously changes all the time, with contract terminations, injury replacements, squad additions, etc). So I assume that the clubs get a payment each quarter from the FFA for player wages.
OK
That's awesome then.
Still doesn't solve the "how ****ed are the Jets if they don't pay the salary floor" question though.
And I know it is 85%... but if we bin off 4-5 players and our total salary is less than that, how ****ed are we?
If my maths is correct, the difference between 85% of the cap and 100% is $380,250. So that's 2-3 higher paid players, or a heap of squaddies, that we can offload no worries.
If we do drop below the salary floor, what I would imagine would happen is we give a raise to some of our existing players - some of which we'd be in negotiations to re-sign already as they'll be out of contract at the end of this year.
OK
Just asked Lowey how the negotiations with Mullen are going. Things have stalled because we can't agree with WSW about the % of his wage they'll pay.
Interesting!

WSW are probably trying to crunch the numbers to see how many of their new signings for ACL-only they can fit into the HAL squad, and adjust their cap accordingly.
I know when CCM had Flores, MV were paying 60% of his wage still. This kind of thing (split salaries across two clubs) isn't uncommon in the league.
OK

Just wanted to put this one out there again, I still haven't washed since that fateful day..
