That bloke has won championships and captained with Victory and obtained an overseas contract . He must be able to play a bit.
Leijer is pretty over rated if you ask me.

    Always has been

    Always will be.

I reckon there are easily 10 CD's in the HAL that are superior

We're still going for Hoole, but only Hoole. Means we're gonna be paying Hoole a bit more money, I'd still think we can get two people out of this trade

Fvck off then, you're a player and don't get to make those decisions. Obviously not committed here, so on your bike.

I don't see Hoole as a long term option, just as I don't see Carney. I say that because he has overseas ambitions. That's dependent on someone buying him of course. He's a longer term option than Carney however.

So much for only doing a deal if it is to our benefit... For all the tough talk Miller is now prepared to take one player who has scored one A-league goal and a poorly taken penalty at that.

    That's a deal? That's a terrible deal.

Hoole has a great future in a third tier Asian league you mean? Reegz can put in a word for him...
Life isn't the same without Con... but it can only improve without Tinks...

This will free up a significant amount of money in our cap situation. The beauty of it is that we can use what we save on not paying carney in our cap for next year.

Hoole for Carney then doesn't seem like such a bad swap. Although it does appear, like carney, the agent makes all the executive decisions for the involved player coming in.

Hoole was exciting to watch last year but needs to become a lot more polished in that final third. Needs to know when to dribble and when to hit a first time cross.

Hoole will offer more pace +++, athleticism and in the A-league this makes him a more viable player than carney does at age 32.

Carney is just simply on too much coin from the outside looking in.

Hoole would realistically be here on max 110-120k .. This allows a potential $100k approx more in the centre of the park.

good business if you ask me.

I'm starting to side with Plague. There is way to much conjecture in these posts.

I've decided to swim back upstream. Miller to offer Cabbage a 1 year deal at 250k a week (which is still too much). Who's willing to give me the odds on that?

IN-DEMAND midfielder David Carney will learn his immediate playing future on Tuesday, and it appears increasingly likely the former Socceroo will depart the Jets for Sydney FC.

With the A-League transfer window closing at midnight, intense negotiations between the Jets and Sydney FC are set to come to a head.

    FIRM VIEW: Scott Miller
    FIRM VIEW: Scott Miller
“Dialogue is ongoing,” Jets chief executive David Eland said on Monday.

“Sydney are clearly desperate to get hold of David Carney, but he has a contract until the end of the season.

“We have until 11.59pm to come up with a solution.”

The Jets have said they are willing to release Carney but on their terms.

A potential two-for-one player swap has been at the centre of talks.

The Jets have targeted Andrew Hoole and are understood to be willing to increase the Olyroo’s salary as an enticement to return to Newcastle.

The 22-year-old is six months into a two-year deal in Sydney and his management this week ruled out a return to his home club.

As well as the A-League finals, the Sky Blues are about to begin their Asian Champions League campaign.

Striker Chris Naumoff and promising left back Riley Woodcock are other Sydney players reported to be involved in talks.

“When the situation involves potential player swaps, it is really complex,” Eland said. “You are talking about people’s careers.”

If the clubs cannot agree on a player swap, the other option is for the Jets to release Carney and save the balance of his contract, believed to be about $80,000.

Under the A-League Collective Bargaining Agreement, formalised in November, clubs are allowed to stockpile any unused portion of the salary cap and add it to the next season’s spend.

Likewise, if the Jets receive a player or players from Sydney on less money than the Carney, the difference can be banked to spend later.

After a dream start, winning three of the first four games, the Jets’ finals hopes are in tatters.

They sit in ninth place, 10 points behind sixth-placed Adelaide, with 10 games remaining.

Carney has been the Jets’ best player, scoring three goals and playing a hand in several others.

However, the 32-year-old was a shock late omission from the side beaten 1-0 in Adelaide on Sunday, after the coach queried his “commitment”.

The Jets train on Tuesday ahead of the visit by the high-flying Melbourne City on Sunday.

Eland expects Carney at training and said he would be considered for selection while he is contracted to the club.

“Scott has been straight with where things stand with David,” Eland said. “You have to want to play for the Jets and be committed to the Jets. The culture we are trying to build here, that is a must.”
So to get Hoole here, we have to offer him significantly more money than Sydney, he obviously doesn't want to be here, so why would we force him? We don't want money hungry players, we want hungry players that WANT to be here and play for us.

Remainder of Carney's contract is believed to be 80k, with 9(?) games remaining, people saying he's not on good coin are crazy. Works out around 8k per game + bonuses or 218k for the 27 rounds...

Robbie Kruse has been sent back To Leverkusen from Stuttgart where he was on loan.

I wonder where his head is at and whether he is a realistic recruitment option for next season? He's struggling to regain a place in the first team following a few injuries. I'd be looking at a loan deal and the very least.

Pretty sure our offer last year, that SFC matched, was 150k. And we're offering more so you would think 160k-165k. It's still a saving of 60-70k in the cap.

Every player no, matter how good, has a value in the cap that makes them a good or bad proposition. Carney is a good player and does provide more on the pitch than Hoole will, but at 230k a well over value for a player with very little conviction to anything or anyone other than himself.

If Hoole does go overseas it won't be until the end of next season which is clearly what Miller is planning for in this trade.

I am reading that Kruse is not going back because he is unwanted, rather than Bayer want to strengthen their attack by bringing him back
