A-League: Jets in talks with promising Wanderers defender Daniel Alessi JAMES GARDINER
    May 23, 2016, 3:52 p.m.

NEWCASTLE Jets are close to finalising a deal with promising Western Sydney Wanderers defender Daniel Alessi.

The Newcastle Herald understands that the 18-year-old has been earmarked for one of three spots designated for players under-20.

Home-grown striker Cameron Joice, who returned from the Australian Institute of Sport at the end of last year, is also in contention for a place on the A-League roster following the release of Brandon Lundy and Josh Barresi, who has joined Victorian NPL club Bulleen.

Alessi, a centreback or right fullback, has six A-League appearances and is captain of Wanderers’ youth team which sits second, a point behind Sydney FC, in division two of the NSW National Premier League.

A Young Socceroo, Alessi made his A-League debut at age 16 in a derby against Sydney FC in January, 2014.

Meanwhile, former Jets midfielder Ryan Kitto has joined champions Adelaide.
So Alessi comes in to offer cover in CB/RB.

Joice must have been told he will have a chance of training with the first teamers over preseason to earn a contract.

Kitto off to Adelaide as speculated.

Sydney FC today released their current squad list. They've let go of Necevski, Bouzanis, Anderson, Woodcock, Tratt, Stambolziev, Mullen and Naumoff.
Should we be interested in Woodcock or Naumoff? The rest are dross

I agree with naumoff and woodcock, especially the latter because of what we need. Depends on what squad size we go with tho

Personally i wouldn't mind having a look at Satmbolziev, i think he deserved more minutes than he got there last year. The only reason Hoole got minutes was because he was the only player in that team with pace, at least Stambolziev has some balance to his game. Not just get the ball and run quickly (hoping that you kept the ball when you finally open your eyes 20m from where you started). I'll accept any hate about my opinion but i think he would at least be better than Pav & Brennan and wouldn't demand much coin. Just keeping our options open.

An article on FoxSports I read on this yesterday also hints at additional changes, if their release can be agreed

With Jacques Faty, Mickael Tavares and Ali Abbas already released it leaves Sydney with 15 players contracted for next season, but some of those are likely to exit pending further talks over their contracts. The futures of striker Shane Smeltz and winger Andrew Hoole at Sydney remain uncertain, while negotiations with captain Alex Brosque and striker Matt Simon - both off contract - will continue.

SMH reporting Hoole is going to be shown the door with Adelaide his next home.

We don't have the squad spaces to sign any of these players without spending less on our Visa players. No thanks

Interesting that Hoole is being driven out 5 months after he refused to come back here as part of a Carney deal. Would have probably been offered a longer term deal here being local. Do not really want him back though, absolutely no end product, he is worse than Alidovic was in that regard

Agree. My opinion of him has gone down. Id take Naumoff before Hoole

I would consider Woodcock as a LB option as there are **** all of them around, still young and can develop.

Naumoff I would take if we were able to offload Pav or Brennan as he is an upgrade on both of them but we do not need anymore cheap squad fillers. I would prefer to pay decent coin (whatever we have) on players for those forward wide roles.

Ali Abbas is about the only one who went on and did well there.

Have a read of Arnold's comments on the younger players in his squad. Talk about chucking them under the bus. Makes anything negative Stubbins/GVE/Miller has ever said about players seem tame.

Arnold is talking like he either wants out of SFC or is cracking badly.

It's reasonable to think that....but to say it to the press? Any young player now will turn away from SFC.

Certainly Adelaide didn't too badly with the likes of Mauk, Kamau, Mells etc
