That pitch at Allianz for last weekends game was an absolute joke for what is supposed to be the highest point of football in this country.
Every part of this ridiculous story this week highlights just how little some organisations understand the difference between field preparation for football vs league/union

The walkout by the HAL clubs from the meeting last night, demanding more that the 26% rise in their share of the TV deal, is an interesting one.
Are Gallop and the FFA serious about investing more of the money into grassroots and junior football? Have the clubs lost touch with that section of their community then, and are they focusing too much on profit vs developing the game?

    As for the pitch issues

Let's just point out Melbourne has Victree Heart Storm and the Melbourne rugby side there

    They also have shit weather
Yet AAMI looks 1000x better than SFS who only have Smurfs Waratahs and the Roosters playing there

So what exactly is the excuse of the bloke running the pitch??

I think it also high time the ****ers stopped painting the pitch in advertising as well.

Can't be good for the grass getting painted for a sponsor then painted green afterwards all the time.

Ban all advertising on the turf
    Field makings only

Yes this is the point - ground like Hull and Wigan in England to a great job of managing multiple codes in bleak conditions (true they have undersoil heating). AAMI does a great job so it is not the traffic, it's the management of it. The problem is that Allianz is owned by the SCG Trust, dominated by eggball types. They don't care.

The advertising amazes me and kudos to FIFA for preventing it. Ads can be easily superimposed on a field now and you would struggle to tell the difference at home.

They are losing millions funding the league which can be argued is the biggest factor in developing the sport in this country.

But yeah, those greedy corporations and their profits and stuff.

Considering they are hamstrung in persuing alternate revenue streams by the governing body, let alone not fairly rewarded financially for making the finals, what the hell are they supposed to do to pay the bills?

See I don't see why the owners don't take the step of driving down wages

Let's face it the players have been bleeding them dry for 10 years

    Income doesn't equal expenditure

So the players wages should be reigned into affordable levels

Hull etc in the UK have Desso Grassmaster pitches though. Which is a hybrid artificial/real turf system which keeps the pitch in much better condition than the likes of Allianz which is just grass.

Unfortunately the PFA has stopped this happening, you would think the PFA would be looking at ways to help the game grow so more professional spots were available and therefore they would have more members, but no, they are only worried about bleeding the game dry

It was only 12 months ago that the surface of AAMI was completely falling apart as well. All the grounds in Oz needs to get the Desso or equivalent surfaces.

Good luck getting any quality in a club on an operating budget of $3m boss.

Because you're already hating on the players in the league. Cheaper ones gonna be better for you?

I'd rather let clubs grow the pie and afford better players.

Agreed - why isn't this looked at? Probably cos the eggballers can't see the value. They would happily play in mud.

I do, but I could also see the value in them wanting the opportunity to get more members. They operate from membership fees. The more members they have the more influence they can push and grow themselves. Catch 22, what they are currently doing is killing growth of the game and therefore themselves.

They be the same shit players on 60k a year instead of being the same shit players on 150k a year

The wages of players in the HAL have been well above the line on the graph since day 1

It the owners picking up the tab of this largesse

Even now the FFA offering an extra 300k a year in wages next season

Which of our useless ****s deserve an extra 20k a year to be shite??

What is also absurd is that 300k would be better spent by the club's into their ****ing academies so generation next can play better than the shite we have like Raheem and Marc Warren and Leigh Brixham impersonating footballers

Not a cent extra should be going to the players

No - membership fees have little if anything to do with it.. A monopolist increases price by restricting supply not increasing it. A good example is the Australian Medical Association who make it very difficult to become a doctor for this very reason. They also tie Medicare Provider numbers to Doctors / their members rather than to postcodes so as to increase their market power and ability to influence price.

Without the PFA though you would have the other extreme of what is known as a monopsony whereby you have many sellers [the players] and essentially only one buyer [the FFA]. In that example you would expect the countervailing power of the FFA to be greater than that of the players and prices/ wages would be drastically decreased.

You do realise your idea of football nirvana is already out there right?

You can just go watch that and you won't need to do all this ranting.

    Exactly my point earlier really.
League/Rugby doesn't rely on the pitch being in optimal condition for the game to function, Football does.
It's just that there are more teams in those codes to use the ground more often, so even with lower attendances the value is better.
