Went to watch the ressies turn out for Wallsend and garden suburbs last night. I think there would be a few sore bodies today. It was a fast paced, physical game from both teams on the back of a short turn around. Wallsend should have won but couldn't take their chances. It almost felt like the GS players took 70 mins to warm up.
I wonder how long it's been since Wallsend have lost a penalty count at their home ground? Definitely got the rub of the green from the ref's.
If last night's game is anything to go by first grade tonight should be a ripper
Can vouch for the sore body..
Garden Suburb Ressies were definitely not at their best. Most agreed at the end of the game that was the worst we've played this season. To take a point from a team like Wallsend when not playing our best was a good achievement.
On referees, I don't normally bag them too often, however this season there have been some TERRIBLE refereeing decisions. Most of the time when the ref calls a foul/corner/goal kick all the players look at each other in confusion, no one thinks it was the right call. Which is a strange thing, when it usually the players fighting over decisions![]()
Quick thanks to the #19 from Wallsend for breaking my nose then bragging and gloating about it. He showed even more charm and character when he proceeded to come over to our bench 5 minutes later to verbally entice our coach and supporters when one of his team mates lunged in from behind on one of our players, a tackle which resulted in a Red Card. Your a true testament #19 and a beacon for humanity.
That aside I would genuinely like to thank all those from Wallsend who helped me out, I appreciate all you did for me.
the red devil grubs
Anyone else played at Wallsends field and felt the wrath of the two holes in the field? The i assume sprinkler boxes, the two green ones either side of the centre circle?
How the hell is play allowed on a field with those things?
Do I write to nnsw, or newcastle football, or who do we contact to fix this - whether it be wallsend have to cover them with dirt or relocate home games?
Speaking to the ref at our game, he admitted they were dangerous but didn't want to kick up a stink because "people have been playing on that field for years".
We all go into our football seasons knowing a calculated risk of injury etc. But these holes in the ground at wallsend are not in my, or i assume many others, calculations.
Also the cricket pitch is a disaster. No football ground should be allowed to have one on it in my opinion. Go inspect it for yourself and check out the black gravel on parts of it, with no grass in sight.
Wallsend should be forced by the federation to relocate, no question whatsoever.
OK
Holes in the ground are about 5-10cm deep, with near no angle down, just a sheer drop into the plastic cover. Very dangerous.
The cricket pitch wasn't tooooo bad when we played.. (Night games), but was still rock hard and looked like sand paper in some areas.
Unfortunate, coz other than those two things it's a really nice pitch!

Excellent shield day thanks Morisset for taking part.
Competitive in all grades which you want to see in a local derby.
1sts was a great game to watch, a sweet long range strike and a vital save by our GK allowed us to get the win however Morisset could just have easily won. Keen for the return leg!!
Crazy comp, anyone can take points off anyone!
Charlestown v Wallsend
3rd grade: 2-3
Ressies: 2-3
1st grade: 1-5
Charlie 3rds were up 2-0, lost 3-2.
Reserves down 2-0 & 3-1, lost 3-2.
1sts conceded after 6 seconds (yes, you read that right), and it was 1-1 with 10 to play, lost 5-1.
Without bad luck, we'd have none.
Well done to Wallsend, who were efficient and worked hard to win in all 3 grades.
When I grow up, I want to be Yohan Cabaye.
Garden Suburb v Cookshill
Thirds
0-1
Reserves
0-1
First

Thanks to cookers for three competitive games that could've gone either way. Cleanest and toughest games of the season and not a bad bunch of blokes to play against.
Looking forward to the return leg.
Hi pv4,
We at Wallsend are more then happy for you to write to someone about getting the ground fixed, it will join the numerous emails and phone calls we have made to council about getting it sorted. But as cricket is seen as the main sport by the council they are not wanting to do anything. Also with relocating grounds as we are the third level in the club behind NewFM and WPL we get third choice of the gardens so no other grounds are available for us, if you or the federation can or want to find us a ground for the same costs with no cricket pitch that would be great.
However I do agree that the holes are dangerous and we have been trying to get them sorted for a while.
