The U23 Asian Cup squad has been announced..

    https://footballaustralia.com.au/new...23-asian-cuptm

Now it might be a good thing seeing it is over the next few weeks, but can someone please explain why none of the baby Jets get a run but Tony Vidmar can pick his own son who is currently with an NPL club in SA??

Ben Gibson was the only Jet named in the last squad (qualifiers back in September). Probably overlooked because of the team they play for.

Jets blocked the release of Badolato, Gibson and Dobson for the tournament.

Can?t paste the Herald article for some reason, but that?s the sauce.

Of those 3, who is likely to play? Badolato would be the only one I'd suggest is as good as guaranteed. Gibson would be a good option off the bench.

Dobson is playing every week for the team - does he disrupt that?

Are we a legitimate chance of winning?

I've never been in a position to have to make a call between club and country so I don't know how that feels and I'd hope this was done by the club in consultation with the players. We don't want to get into the habit of blocking players from being released, however.

This is a by-product of having a league which is primarily a youth league. Continue down this path and clubs will need to adjust.

But selfishly, which we need to be, this time I'm glad all 3 are sticking around while our opposition are weakened.

Considering the league is meant to be a stepping stone, I'd be disappointed in any of them if they'd chosen to stay here. They would have been travelling around with different coaches, in a tournament played in front of top scouts and playing against some of the best talent their age. Plenty of big players were "found" in the u19 and u23 tournaments and then given a platform to reach their potential, seems like a no brainer for me. Plus, the Jets are going to get beaten by Auckland, City and WSW and fall back down to 2nd from bottom before working our way back to 7th, we all know it.

It's not a good msg to young players but I feel that the decision should have been taken out of all club hands. FFA , Surely has the power to make players available for national team selection, surely this didn't change when the APL took over control of the A League?

Theres only 2 paths Aussie kids have.

1.They play A-League, they dont cut it and they get moved on.

    2. They play A-League, they get better and they move on.

Club should be doing everything they can to improve their kids so they can sell and build the next generation.

Exposure to international competition can only be a good thing for both player and whoever is going to profit off them.

I know we wont win the U23 Asian Cup, but we sure as shit aint winning the league either.

Valid point. Not one I'd considered when I posted earlier.

Jets signing Zac Clough according to the Telegraph. Hasn't played since late November with a hip injury.

Wide and central is an area we have quite covered currently. I wonder if it's a coverage for a departing player.

I liked Clough when I saw him but one injury to Wilmering and with Aquilina bombed out we're very short in defence

We have 4 keepers at the moment - says a lot that bone can challenge the current incumbent.

Valkanis telling us he should be allowed to abuse refs because he won a ribbon in a running event at school is some of the dumbest shit ive ever heard.

The only sensible outcome is he turns up in a red hat from now on and campaigns to Make Referees Great Again.

A bloke carrying on about dog eat dog and only the strong survive but then picks his own kid in the team every week is such an amazing self own.

I just wish he was smart enough to see it.

The future of the code looks so good with clowns like him, corica and talay getting their sour faces and shit football on screen every week.
