Tough day out at carrington today, was quite hot most of the day before a strong wind blew in midway through the second half of first grade.
Reserves got the 3 points today, courtesy of one of the (if not THE) most comical own goals ive eva seen. The Hamilton keeper picked up the ball from a long ball over the top, took his time, then kicked it straight into the head of his own defender who was standing about 3 meters in front of him, and the ball rebounded over the keeper, and bounced in.... hilarious. At the time, I thought it was a deserved lead, but Olympic finished the half strongly and couldve had an equaliser before halftime. Second half was much of the same, with Hamilton shading things, and equalising through another own goal, with a wayward shot across the box being expertly turned home by a charlestown player to make things 1-1. Both sides hit the woodwork, but Hamilton were caught on the break with about 10 to go and Charlie managed to squeeze home what turned out to be the winner. Tough result for Hamilton, who couldve walked away with 3 points on another day.

1st grade was another tight affair, with Olympic taking the lead midway through the first half. Neither side really controlled the game, with half chances falling at each end, Olympic were probly slightly on top, however just before halftime Charlie equalised from a corner after the cross traveled through a mass of bodies before being slammed home. Into the second half and the arm wrestle continued, with Charlie again scoring from a corner about 10 minutes in, after some confusion between the keeper and the man on the post saw a fairly tame header creep in. Some more questionable keeping saw a cross-come-shot squeeze in from an acute angle to make the score 3-1. And the final nail in the coffin saw a penalty converted to make the score 4-1.
Despite Charlestown playing 3 games in 7 days, Hamilton seemed to be the side running out of legs in the second half and this showed on the scoreboard.
Not the most greatest performance from the charlestown boys, but another 3 points and should set up a cracking match vs jesmond next week.
When I grow up, I want to be Yohan Cabaye.

I totally agree mate we as a club need to take responsibility for the results and stop making excuses. Shame about the result but hopefully we can bounce back next week.

    Westlakes vs. Jesmond

The goal which was given was a tough call, I was surprised to see it given but can't say for sure the ref got it wrong. One of those where a player appears to head it off the line, but the player had drifted behind the line themselves then moved forward to head the ball. Westlakes enjoyed the lions share of possession but clear cut chances fell to both teams. A draw would have been fair, but a win wasn't undeserved for the Rams either.

^good review and agree completely in and the result was fair enough

Not gonna comment on the game.

But can I just say a massive thanks to jesmond number 3 who stayed behind after their team went to the sheds after the game, grabbed a bin n cleaned the area their supporters were occupying. Was a massive help and great to see. Cheers again

Ref explained his decision. In his words: both of the players feet were on goal line and he lent back initially before heading the ball.
People can make their own decision it's not worth looking bak.
Westlakes had enough chances to score but weren't good enough.

We readily admit got what was coming in reggies, having previously played not at our best but still beating inferior opposition, this test we were not up to on the day. Well done Westlakes on 3-1 win.

First grade, in my opinion, was a deserved win after implementing and executing a game plan against who we believe to be the benchmark of our competition. I readily admit there could have been another outcome on another day, however that's football and we will take 1-0 out there any day.

How I saw it - we were the better team for the first half hour and really should have scored at least one but couldn't stick ball in back of net before Westlakes stepped up and we were chasing shadows leading into half time, which we were happy to get to and re-group. We were run ragged in that last 15.

The second half was pretty even and Westlakes forced one save from our keeper (think his legs not sure) and one in which he tipped onto crossbar. Again we created a few but failed to take chances before a corner of ours was judged to have crossed the line.

Granted it is somewhat fortunate to score from a corner when it's given to the corner taker and from the sideline I cannot say categorically that it crossed the line, however I can say and even commented on it at the time.... the referee was in an extremely good position and make his call accordingly.

I do not believe that Westlakes dominated possession when looking back over the full 90 minutes but will concede that when they put it together they are as good as any team. All in all I believe this was a really good match and we have no complaints about how we were treated or events of the day...

Highlight is Westlakes liquor license and unreal eray of refreshments haha. Cheers

Definately.... Was a good day with the Charlestown boys. Good bunch of friendly blokes. Happy to play with these sorts of guys every weekend. Well done Charlestown.

Well Tenambit took a bus trip to Muswellbrook today and it started in a commical state with Tenambit rocking up to the game to only realise we left our shirts at home and had to borrow shirts for our res grade whilst a first grader had to grab the shirts on his way to the game. And before this we had 3 players pull out on game day to leave us with 20 to select from. 11 players in res including our starting first grade keeper on the field and our starting first grade cb in goals.
Well onto the scores. Muswellbrook 7 Tenambit 0
The game was tight for the first 5 mins but that was about it Mussy were very clinical in their finishing and being the goalkeeper i do feel as tho i was in the best position to see this. If there was another ten mins i reckon a 8 goal come back was on the cards lol. THe funny thing to come out of the game for us was our first grade keeper got players player in his first game in years on the park.

First Grade was 2-0 to Mussy. Two first half goals had tenambit on the back foot and chaceing the game again. And missing 3-4 first graders didnt make our job easier.
First half Mussy were good got their goals with the long ball over to the quick striker who finished one well and i do believe set up the other. (Could be wrong). I didnt see much of the second half as i only lasted ten mins. And surprisingly our back line was better when i left. for the fact all four could run and there was no longer a passenger on the park. But the bus trip was the winner on the day ( well at least for Tenambit). One bit of advice to teams playing Mussy. The first grade keeper does not like to catch the ball at all. Was very strange to watch being a keeper myself ( but on todays result in res u wouldnt think i was lol) Balls that were at a very comfortable catching hieght he elected to punch even when not under pressure something to keep in mind.
But at the end of the day can not begrudge Mussy the victory.

So it's agreed, the Muswellbrook first grade striker is the quickest man in football??

Depending on who you ask, he might not even be the quickest in our club. Personally I think we have two quicker, we are probably going to have a race some point soon to settle the debate, the only thing we really have to go on at the minute was when they were all pissed on mad Monday last season and the guy mentioned came third

Agree with majority of Sharky's match report. First goal was after we sustained a bit of pressure, one o our CB's pinched the ball and set a counter going. Said quick striker finished with a tidy chip/dink into the top corner. Second goal was pretty special (from our point of view anyway). We had a good little bit of possession and our left back had pushed forward to join the attack and clipped a ball over the top for one our central midfielders to collect in the 18 who then proceeded to leave at least two possibly three defenders bamboozled on the deck then rounding the keeper as well to finish off a nice solo goal.

Second half was really disappointing for us. We played the worst football we have this year, couldn't keep the ball for longer than 2 seconds. To be fair Tenambit did press a lot better in the second and put us under some pressure, but a lot the time we only had ourselves to blame for turning over possession so frequently. It was borderline embarrassing. We also failed to finish off a couple more one on ones which seems to be a recurring theme for us. Luckily though our defence was well and truly on its game and we held out for our first clean sheet of the season. Pretty disappointed with our guys second half effort and if we want to finish at the high end of the table we will need to be doing much better in the coming rounds.

Also Sharky, great call on the wombat. Gave me a good chuckle!

I would have to say i was one of those bamboozled defenders when the ball was in the goal i still wasnt sure wether i was coming or going. (hence the reason i didnt say to much bout the second goal didnt want to take any credit away from the goal with misleading report on it). Im sure ur strikers were dissapointed when i went off early in the second half as the were having a field day leaving me for dead. haha And after that performance and knowing a wombat is quicker then me iv all but hung up me #21 field shirt ( sad news for all strikers yet to play me) and im going to concentrate on my keeping and after the 7-0 drubbing i may need a bit of work haha.
Was a good day out their thanks once again for the lending of the shirts. Could only have wished it was a sat game and might have been able to hang around for a quick beer.

No comeback from me on the crosses. I had a shocker in the sticks yesterday vs Tenambit. Couldn't kick at all, and opted to punch most crosses clear instead of risking drop them. Stuffed one of the punches up royal which was a bit of a laugh. Strange how you have the worst game of the season so far and get your first clean sheet!!!!

Anyone game to have a firm guess at premiers and grand final winners yet???

Wouldn't be much in it but I think now that our two strikers would be quicker, a few years ago maybe different story, we used to get frustrated with the linesmen pulling him up for offside quite a lot due to his speed.

Picking premiers for this grade I'm gonna go for Mussy, if they keep there squad consistent for the season they should go well, followed by Charly, Jesmond and maybe Westlakes for top four.
Watched Westlakes v Olympic play and would not put Olympic up there unless things change, maybe Swanky has retired?
If Westlakes can work on their combination of big Dunc up front with the 2 Walsham boys working off him they will improve.
