maybe it was part of magic's bargaining efforts to entice/keep their 23s players that they'd be given a go in the state cup. clubs can do what they want. if their 23s can hold a full-strength first grade side to 1 goal, that's not a bad effort imo. those 23s will be better off for the experience - much better off than not playing, letting their first grade play, and boozing for a weekend in coffs.
Magic have a responsibility to the the competition, they should have played their first grade, you can't be high and mighty in one comp and be disrespectful in another, it's only a piss ant midweek game, your players are not that precious surely
