Love how the referees are always tackling the big issues in football! Yesterday our keeper got penalised for bouncing the ball when summing up his options to kick to. I am happy to be corrected but last time I checked that wasn't a foul. Mussy vs Medowie:

Res 4-4
Firsts 2-2

In ressies we really looked like running away with. Scored 2 very early goals but some deplorable defending allowed Medowie back in to the game and then each time we got ahead we couldn't consolidate and they clawed a goal back. Scrappy game, scrappy field, Medowies effort probably deserved a point. Very disappointed in our lads but.

Firsts:

We were awful. In my opinion Medowie aren't by any means the greatest team in the comp, however there are definitely teams who will travel there and drop points, for the pure fact they are gritty, have decent support behind them, have an awful field that is well suited to their play and a home grown ref that won't let the game flow

Now I want to make this very clear, Muswellbrook did not do enough to win the game. Medowie were very deserved of their point and we were lucky to snatch one after being 2-0 down at half time. With how bad we performed we can probably count it as a point gained rather than two lost.

However, I do field the need to ask some questions of the ref, not in regard to the result, just because I have never seen some the calls he threw out on my life. And this is both ways! At the end of the game he pulled up 56 fouls (he was so bad that yes someone was counting) by my probably awful Maths, that is a foul less than every 2 minutes, and most of these were for the softest of offenses that would only be picked up in junior game. I said to him after the game he has to let the game flow, as it he made it all about him, and he replied with "I did let it flow, what are you talking about" and if that is that case, I would hate to be playing in a game when he doesn't let it flow. Both teams were disadvantage by it, as it was looking a good solid battle with both teams putting in tough challenges but when he calls the first foul within 40 seconds of kick off you know it is going to ruin the game. We even had one player pulled up for using his body shielding the ball whilst he was 100% in possession, even Medowie players couldn't believe it.

Like I said Mussy didn't do enough to win the game and Medowie were disadvantaged by the ref being so trigger happy as well, not at all blaming him for the result. But he took the enjoyment out of playing football yesterday and shone the spot light himself, not the game of football. It's just a shame that so often we come off the pitch talking about the poor level of officials and not the football.

In any case, with how poorly we played yesterday is a day that Mussy will just want to grab the point, put that game behind us and look forward to next week! Hopefully we put Medowie to sword up home.
