What exactly is the Sandgate bypass thing meant to achieve? All it appears to be doing to my untrained town planning eyes is moving a shitty horrendous intersection a kilometre further up the road instead of it's current location right next to the cemetery.
Am I missing something?

it's part of the band aid solutions to the fact that traffic on Main Road 82 (from the end of the new freeway at Minmi through to the stadium) will increase by 50% once the Hunter Expressway opens
funding came for the expressway, the state had to stump up a little to help the supporting roads, they decided to spend the absolute minimum they had to in Newcastle, because this is the way we get treated because people around here are idiots who put up with it
