PLAYER APPEARANCE | Newcastle Jets players James Brown and Connor Chapman will be at Telstra Kotara between 6pm and 7pm tonight! The players will be giving away Jets and Telstra merch, signing autographs and will be handing over a signed 2013/14 Newcastle Jets home strip to the winner of last month's Telstra Broadband competition. Make sure you pop down to Westfield Kotara to say hi! ‪#‎NTUA
Someone go and quiz Chapman about his future at the club

He'd be a great addition.... So long as we don't expect home to win us everything.

High expectations seem to kill off any hope.

If he's not wanting massive coin I'd be happy with him dictating play next season.
    New pitch needed though.

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets utility Josh Brillante has capped off a stellar season by being named the Club’s Player of the Year for 2013/14.

Brillante, who was one of three finalists along with striker Adam Taggart and defender Kew Jaliens, accepted his award at Hunter Stadium on Saturday night.

The versatile Brillante made 24 appearances for the Jets this season, featuring prominently in both central midfield and at the right fullback position.

Brillante contributed three goal assists during the 2013/14 campaign and his consistent performances on a weekly basis earned the praise of many pundits.

Being named Jets Player of the Year for 2013/14 completes an outstanding 12 months for the 20-year-old, which saw him make his Socceroos debut, represent the Young Socceroos at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and be named Australian Young Footballer of the Year for 2013.

Jets interim head coach Clayton Zane said Brillante was a thoroughly deserving recipient of the A-League Player of the Year accolade.

“Josh has had a standout year and was excellent for us all season, which is a testament to his attitude and work ethic,” Zane said.

“He has continued to grow and develop as the season went on, doing his job week-in, week-out no matter what position he played in.

“The manner in which Josh has carried himself throughout the season and the character he’s shown on and off the football pitch indicates he has a bright future in the game ahead of him.”

Despite narrowly missing out on the top prize, Taggart did not leave the awards night empty handed, picking up the Members Player of the Year Award and winning the Club’s Top Goal Scorer accolade after bagging 16 goals this season.

Radovan Pavicevic was named National Youth League (NYL) player of the year, while Kale Bradbery received the NYL Top Goal Scorer award.

The Jets’ W-League Player of the Year award was presented to Gema Simon.

The 23-year-old performed at a consistently high level for the Jets women throughout the season and was a worthy recipient of the prize.

    Newcastle Jets 2013/14 Award winners:
A-League Player of the Year: Josh Brillante
A-League Members Player of the Year: Adam Taggart
A-League Top Goal Scorer: Adam Taggart
W-League Player of the Year: Gema Simon
National Youth League Player of the Year: Radovan Pavicevic
National Youth League Top Goal Scorer:Kale Bradbery
Club Person of the Year: Brent Anderson
Surprised it was Brillante. Not surprised that the finalists were him, Kew and Taggart.

I have no doubt that Taggz will prove himself to be the best striker we've ever had at the club. He'll be showing us his talent in a better league within a year or two for sure.
I like Griff but he's no competition for Taggz these days.
    2013-14:
    Griffo - 3 goals
    Taggz - 16 goals
It is really that surprising Taggz is our most popular player?

difference is taggart has played every game and is the central striker. If he'd taken all his clear cut chances he'd have 50 goals this season

Might be a more valid comparison if you take into account games played, and position.
A straight comparison on goals scored can be shot down in flames so quickly it's not doing your argument any favours.

I agree taggz has been better this year, but that's to be expected given his age, position, tactical use by coach, games played etc.

Some of his finishing was deadset honking hey, and you could argue that it made a big difference to some of our results (e.g those 2 clear-cut chances against Perth, one when Duncan ****ed up and he had an open goal, the second when he was one-on-one).

Come to think of it, how many one-on-one opportunities did Taggart actually bury? It seemed like he would always run super close to the keeper and have his shots blocked.

NB Obvs the kid is a freak and has the potential to do great things. Comparing him to Griff though, lol.

i think your comparing griff to the wrong guy compare griff to everyone who played on the wing this season

    griff 3 goals

    hoole 0
    virgilli 0
    goodwin 0
    burns 2 (in one game)

all 4 of them played more game time as well.

rof at blokes saying tagz missed some sitters, bloke has created so many chances for himself that it's irrelevant. lets maybe look at the other goons we had playing up front all year for someone to blame.

imagine if he played at a decent club ffs.

Exactly. Some of the goals he has scored this year, he had no right to score. And some of them, barely anyone helped him with. Pretty much all of his three goals v Heart were outrageous. He has single-handedly won us many games this year.
    OK

    not that this will happen.

but what if the players decided to stay and achieve something at the club.

brillante, taagz, & co should be grateful the club brought them here as they were unproven (i'm aware they had massive potential). It would be awesome if they were to repay the faith and hanged around for one more season.

i'm sure the club is taking a risk on losing out on big money for the transfers they may receive but the risk they take in losing these players and not replacing them with equivalent valued players is much more worse.

hate to mention the gypos, but all there young guns hanged round to win the premiership (bar rogic) sainsbury, ryan & bozanic all left after achieving something.

They need a coach who they believe can help them achieve that. Otherwise they are just treading water.
