Its a sad day when that gimp-stick is an Aus marquee.. Not only that, but for Sydney to make him theirs! I didn't think they usually worried about salary caps and things like that?
They are just using the marquee for their highest paid Aust in an off season where there are very few decent Socceroos that qualify. IMO I think the squad they are assembling is looking pretty formidable with very few weaknesses, particularly with a Marquee to come. Brosque and Ibini on the edges and Smeltz in the centre with Carle creating is a pretty good combo

Why not use Smeltz as Aussie Marquee then and use cap space to sign someone else?
Also - don't Marquee's have to be approved by FFA? Surely Brosque isn't remotely close to "marquee" status.
What does it it matter between Smeltz and Brosque who takes Aussie Marquee? Whoever is on the most coin makes obvious sense.
FFA relaxed the rules on that long ago when we took the p*ss by making Milligan marquee

I don't see Brosque as the flashy marquee of previous years. In the last 2 years I had predicted SFC to be shite because their roster was crap. Any side that relied on Ali Abbas, Paul Reid, Matt Thompson was never going to win the league, plus they have usually lacked a decent striker and seem to repeatedly sign rubbish managers.
A front three of Ibini, Brosque and Smeltz with Carle in behind them, managed by Arnie. I see things changing this year.
If Melbourne City can get Duff under the cap surely we can get this bloke.
