    WB v Jes.

3rds 3-1 in a train wreck of a game. Just horrible.
Res 1-1. Really gutsy effort from our lads with many backing up against a team I think is doing well.
1sts 2-2. We equalised with a minute or so to go after being down by 2.

Proud of effort from our club for most parts today with heaps out. 1 Ram playing a part in all 3 grades.

Hello Garden Suburbs Members, just a question for you guys. Is there a club championship for Zone Leagues? I assume you guys would know since you probably would have won it last couple of years?

There sure is, I'm pretty sure Boz has the format on how points are given. I'm not positive on how it works but 1st grade wins are worth more than 3rd grade wins, I'm sure you could find the info on the Newcastle Footballs site.

FYI we've come close but from memory I don't think we've won it, Wallsend shat it in last year and I think Suns took it out the year before last, I could be wrong but.

Its close at the top, with Suburbs still to play Morisset (Suburbs should win all three grades), and then Kotara playing Suburbs and Suns in the final two rounds. Going to be another great finish to the season with alot on the line.

I don't want to rain on the parade of other clubs but do that many within actually care too much about the club championship? Sure it's nice if it compliments other achievements and it goes hand in hand obviously with success across the grades as a club, but surely it does not compare with a minor or major premiership? Or does it?

To offer a genuine argument against it being the basis for promotion, in 2012 we won the club championship on the back of an undefeated reserve grade (I think ours and Mussy were both undefeated) but although making a good run for the 4, we missed out on the semis in 1st grade on the final day of the season.

It was slightly embarrassing to receive the trophy as the best performing club and to have gotten promotion would have been nothing short of ridiculous.

Anyway, there my thoughts - happy to be shot down.

Interesting run-in for these last 2 semi final spots!

I tend to agree with your points. I don't think it's fair for promotion to be based on club championship. Although, with ZPL & ZL1 having three grades that are all performing well, it is a nice achievement for the club. I play Suns ressies and if we are to not make the GF or lose the GF, I won't be looking back and saying, but hey, we were club champions (if that were to happen) and feel great about it.
I think we are all here to win grand finals. We all know winning minor premierships is a great achievement, but you really want to be winning that last game of the season!

Shaping up to be some very exciting fixtures in the last two weeks for finals places!

I agree that Club Championship shouldnt decide promotion, it should be who crosses the finish line first (in first grade) in the regular season as that team is the most consistent team for the year. I use Bero as an example. If they finish first, they deserve promotion and shouldn't be penalised for weaker lower grades which are affecting their club championship position.

Also in regards to the importance of the club championship, it is a nice reward for those clubs that show consistency throughout their grades. With three grades, it is unlikely you can win the club championship and not have your first grade in the semis (not impossible but very unlikely).

I can Assure you 100% Suns will not host the Grandfinal. After every team in the whole first division whined and cried about Magic having the GF every year the decision was made for 1st and Second div clubs to host lower grades GF's to gain revenue. Hoax of a decision and one never really made public.

It's going to interesting. Kotara, N Bay and Suns all still have a realistic shot at 4th place.

Kotara have a tough game against Suburbs next weekend still chasing top spot and promiton, Bay tough one away to Jesmond and Suns at home to Morisset. You would think favourites in those three are Suburbs, Jesmond and Suns? If that happens, it comes down to Kotara v Suns on final day with Bay against Bero fighting for top spot also.. It's close and exciting, may the best team win.

Re: GF - I have zero idea. Haven't been in the committee since 2011..

Stockton Sharks will be holding their old boys day this coming Saturday with all proceeds going to a great cause!

Any former Sharks of any form are encouraged to come along and support the day, as well as have a run in the Old Boys Match if theyre brave enough!
