Seriously! I can't believe this has been such a long discussion! It's $36 extra (assuming you see one game, every week during the regular season). If people can't put aside 70 cents a week over a year to see some local football, then don't bother. Your time (presumably at work now) and internet is costing you more!
Give it up you lot. Next topic please.

It is not about $2 extra. Yeah it won't set me back too much and my lifestyle won't be cramped because of it
It is the principles behind the cash grab for a comp that has excessive wages and small crowds.
Not exactly appealing to get new people in the gate at $10 to watch a bunch of semi pro players kick a ball around.

Are you serious ??????.............cash grab...............you yourself are critical of low attendance numbers...........so how is it a cash grab. $10 for an afternoon of entertainment is ok in my books. Local League and Union both charge entrance fees, go to the central coast, ive taken my son down a few times to watch his mates in Central Coast local comp U/14 & U/15 and paid $5 admission.
Clubs need $$$ to survive, sponsorship is getting harder, ground maintenance is getting very expensive, equipment is getting more expensive, coaching is costing more with NPL down to U/13's being paid, referees ( no issues here ) physio's and yes players getting paid more. So any good administrator is going to look at where they can increase revenue, they have to.
and if you dont want to pay $10 to watch a group of semi pro players have a kick..........................dont.

I am curious whether clubs are forced to advertise the price of entry as $10. (Many things since the start of NPL have become "standard" e.g. must happen to comply with NPL.)
I say, advertise, because clubs obviously get around the admission thing by offering season passes, offering "free tickets" to Juniors + 1 adult etc.
So I'm curious if they must advertise their admission prices as $10. And it is up to discretion of club what they charge, was essentially it's them losing money.

It is a local city wide comp in the 7th largest city in the country. It ain't close to being a serious thing in the grand scheme of things.
One could argue people shouldn't be paying a ****ing cent to watch It at all.
They are after all amateurs in abilities and amateurs for all intensive purposes except for the clubs being silly enough to pay them money to play for them.

Let's face it. The only people this is really going to affect is the occasional spectator, friends and people who might not usually attend NPL games.
But it's going to affect them negatively. I think it will deter the casual spectator from going to watch, which is not what we want as we try to grow the game locally and nationally.

Good publicity for the local NPL but not sure if this is an overall positive thing or not? I guess this depends on Bridgey himself.
i hope they have good accountants in the club lol
200 squad points,
up to 300 with 5 players
200/300 same same
Won't Bridges be considered a "marquee" player, having been at A-League level most recently, and he'll take up zero points? I thought that's how it worked..
Bridges will be amazing in the NPL, and will be great for all his teammates to learn from and will provide a huge challenge to all his opponents, and they will get better for having faced him. Since his first retirement, I didn't whatsoever consider him even close to being what we needed at the Jets but at this level I predict he'll kill it and be a lot of fun to watch.
Sides are only allowed 1 marquee....

In some ways the NBN League is harder than the A League. As the standard is lower, so is the quality of ball that you receive, the more running you have to do etc. It remains to be seen how Bridges will go in the NBN, (or whatever it is called) One thing is for sure it is not going to be a walk in the park for him.

Went and had a look at the Magic V Weston game on Friday night.. Magic looked like they are slowly getting their groove back with a pretty convincing first half performance. Looked solid and organised defensively with Casciaroli doing a good job just infront of the back 4. Spread the ball well and where creating regular chances out wide mainly through Pettit and Virgilli.
Second half was slightly more even with Weston on top for about 10 to 15 minutes. James Monie did well holding the ball up and getting some second phase play happening for the Bears. Thought Cowburn created a few chances in the second half as well. Hearfield got the goal for Weston with a tidy finish but was due to an error playing out from the back by Piddington. Hearfield looked like he was more interested in trying to put some big tackles on and at times was having some fairly heated words with his own team mates, wasn't exactly a good look. Weston look like they have a good mix of youth and senior boys with a couple of handy, sharp young boys doing well.
Overall was a good hit out for both teams I thought.

second game i watched magic play this year.
a lot better performance then the bulli game but still feel they have plenty of more improvment.
what i did notice the bench for magic was immence, with more to come in.
they had Finlayson,Berlin,Fletcher,Kantarovski,Barber, with Bradbury and Higgins also to come back from pre-seaon niggles.
will be very interesting when the 3 sub rule comes ahead this weekend at ffa cup..

Yes... heard Troy's tirade towards his team-mates, poor form from a player who's experience should make him a leader and positive influence on the park, especially the remarks to the more experienced Weston players like Robbie Turnbull who wouldn't hurt a fly... Weston bench didnt take it too seriously though.

I think you may be off the mark as far as Azzuri is concerned.I am of the same opinion as MKFS in as much as saying teams like Azzuri & Southy have maintained roughly the same squads with generally strengthening in certain areas & are perennial participants in NBN Comp.I also agree that (as I have previously stated)people are going off way too early in predicting tables, why don't you predict how much the climate will change over the next 100 years, you might be closer!

I could well be, only reason I was saying those two was that I really haven't heard much about who they've recruited. Most of the other clubs I can name at least 1-2 big signings for them, I can't for those two. Plus you hear stuff about Azzurri (whether or not it's true, I don't know), but it's not the stuff you hear coming from successful clubs.

Maybe clubs like Azzuri are keeping their powder dry so to speak & aren't too worried about who has signed who. We'll see how they stack up in a couple of weeks when they play Maitland.anyway I always thought a champion team would beat a team of champions, not that I'm suggesting for one minute Azzuri are a champion team, they have issues as I'm sure all sides have. Will a team that has been together for a long while & appeared in finals twice in three years do ok?I think so,look at Weston.

I dare say Azzuri aren't hoping to just make up the numbers,I know they are quietly confident of doing better than last season.Just because no one has posted player movements in regards to them doesn't mean they've been inactive. When you lose players such as Goldman,Hearfield & Maguire they need to be replaced.Dont worry about Azzuri they'll do ok.

I agree , especially with the carrot of an A League team or TV game (Magic last year) . Given what I witnessed last Saturday when I went down to take a look it may be something other than just not playing a 1st team. Lots and lots of players were getting injured or complaining about the surface . Having never played on it I cannot comment but it was a very regular debate amongst the players last saturday.

i agree magic were not that good 1st half but they dominated maitland the entire 2nd half. ben kelly saved maitland to deny at least a 5 . 1 win to magic. personally magic need to go with the same formation they played with in the 2nd half. 3 up front with pace to burn, berlin came on 2nd half and turned the momemtum with his pace and crosses and when him ,kale bradbury & dino faj were on together they pressed and shutdown really well which lead to there 2 goals by kale & faj .
by the way i heard maitland were missing only 2 players joel woods & matt thompson

Can you actually forfeit a trial game ? Or would it have been called off due to some players being away and others injured. You make it sound like they forfeited a competition game
Olympic are almost always strong in the 19's so my money would be on that they had players unavailable for reasons unknown to us.

Would never happen... clubs can barely afford wages as is, extend the season by 9 weeks would add an extra 50% to player payments plus coaches demanding more. Jaffas wage bill would then be $175K.
Totally unsustainable in our region.

You'd be adding on half of the current amount of games. So if your budget was currently 100k for 18 games, that's 50k per 9 games, so you'd need an extra 50k for the 9 games added on.
If you added on 33%, that'd be 6 games added on.

Good pick up, but isn't goody only available every 2nd week or so due to work.
There will be a bit of in house turmoil if bolchy starts picking him in front of 100% available players.
It might have worked a bit for azzurri because he was there for so long and they adapted to it from the start.

I find it bizarre that with players of the calibre of Smith and Goodchild up front the club would wish to pursue a formation that doesn't play to that strength.
Not being close to Azzurri goings on it does seem looking in from the outside that there are issues of discontent there for Goodchild to walk out so close to the season start.

Let me fill you in on the situation.Maguire should not have been signed last year as,on performance,he was well past his prime & as his form was terrible he was told he was on the bench & he spat the dummy & walked out 10 minutes before kickoff.Hearfield left because he wanted more money. He has approached Azzuri since leaving Weston, don't know what will transpire on that front.Harper had no intention of playing this year due to travelling up & down each week.He signed for Valentine due to the cash they offered him. With Kane his preseason form didn't warrant a start in FFA Cup hence the walkout.Unless you see Kane every week you are not privy to his week in week out performances,he started to believe all the feel good stories about himself & it has affected the way he plays. He has many more mediocre games than good ones believe me.Wish him well at Olympic though,he's a good guy.

Been watching/listening on the sidelines and thought I would chime in, take from it what you like. For the last 4-5 seasons the club has mainly been run by the 'undropable' stalwarts of the playing group, basically with a coach to show face. With the introduction of SP to the mix he has his own ideas and certain players I feel dont like this (we are all resistant to change). Managing ego's and changing systems that some could argue have worked over the last few seasons is a hard task. I feel any coach and especially SP has and still has some tough decisions to make. From what i gather Maguire, Hearfield, Goodchild, Tull are all big ego's and personalities to manage. Another thing I gather is a lot of players not just exclusive at CCB want all the money/accolades in the world but wont do the simple things to earn it, i.e turn up to training/club functions and put in a good shift. I think there is a debilitating culture at CCB and SP is trying to shake that up. Will it work? only time and results will tell. They have some decent younger talent comming through the ranks who I feel will still be a few more years off but could make an impact. I also feel there is some untapped depth in the 20 man squad that might get a look in and suprise a few people now a few of these older ego's are moving onto newer pastures. Just my 2cents, still a massive coop for Hamiltion as Goodchild is a quality player/person.
Good post
Still find the bizarre nature of shaking culture up all the time. Their always seems a lot of collateral damage see Muppet.
There seems to be a lot of people in the world who seem to be unable to adapt survive and thrive and far too many who get boned needlessly due to someone's desire for this culture shit
Rather bizarre the timing 2 weeks before season as it has limited Goodchilds options of where he can go with the PPS and also cost Azzurri decent time to scout a replacement

Totally agree with last two posts.I've played & coached State League level in both Melbourne & Sydney & there's nothing different here in Newcastle.Football tends to lend itself to selfish players making unrealistic demands to the detriment of the whole. As for the timing of Goodys departure it was his decision & poor old Azzuri weren't in the loop.Bad look from Kane unfortunately.

How can you possible say it's a bad look for Kane unless you have been fully informed by him, the bloke has clearly stated he needed a change, it's amateur footy at its best and if a bloke feels he needs to move on so be it, far from a bad look

Not a problem with him leaving,as far as Azzuri are concerned it could be a good thing. If you look at it from a football perspective Azzuri don't play very good football which is why guys like Goodchild & Smith do so well, they stand out. They would never be a big hit at clubs that are technically better than they are. They fit in through their physicality but Prycey is looking to play better football hence the reason for the current situation.Lets end this by saying we can't wait to see how the club & individual end up.

Correct me if I'm wrong Tonester but didn't Pryce appoint Maguire as his captain when he came to the club. Once he "spat the dummy" as you say Pryce then appointed Goodchild as the skipper. That's 2 captains that Pryce has appointed that have "spat the dummy" and walked. For mine the alarming thing there is the coaches inability to identify a leader, one of the key things any coach needs to get right from the outset. Pryce may have been a great leader when he was a player but his inability to identify a leader and get the best out of them as a coach seems to be way off. Maybe he will get it right with his third choice.

I think that maybe Pryce was led by the nose to appoint club stalwarts as captain by the powers that be & due to his acquiescence he was misguided.Lets see who wears the armband this season, his choice or a selected recipient.

Those that appoint coaches need to give licence to them to mould teams to their beliefs & ideals. As far as Birdy is concerned I doubt if he would be willing to step up & be a leader, not at his tender age.If he is still at Azzuri in a year or so he would be ideal.Still reckon he will be a superstar this year.

Appreciate the fact that Kane played at Southy for a year, since that was at least 6 years ago when he was a younger less experienced player I don't think Forever Reds insight maybe as fresh as mine considering I've seen maybe his last 100+ games.Kanes reputation in the game has grown over the years & as such so has his expectation in regard to his position in the squad but as we all know we get older, slower etc. therefore things aren't the same as it used to be.Due to his respect for the club he may feel it inappropriate to bag them out.Dunno myself if that's the case maybe someone else does.By the way I'm not biased I'll bag out CCB when I feel they deserve it.Cheers

Huge step backwards if it happens IMO.
Not necessarily long term. If the changes made bringing the structures of the state leagues into uniformity in the NPL it should see the standards rise and the comp stronger then it will benefit.
