well how did the new look shape look with one striker in smith and young bird playing in behind him go? Was it worth losing goodchild over. This is not having a dig tonester. Honest question as I didnt see the game. Did the shape look ok and were there any signs, given time ,that the smith-bird partnership could fill the void of goodchild leaving?
Pretty hard to gauge as the pitch was bloody awful &Edgy didn't let Azzuri into the game.Birdy played well until his injury took its toll.Lets judge after Wednesday game

If I was a diplomat I'd say you could possibly be undermining what was a dominant team performance by a side that deserved to be competition favourites but me thinks you're closer to the mark!Another 3 rounds will certainly make it clearer.

Thanks for that. I agree with one of the comments that it would be great to play the Youth games before the A league to increase the exposure of the comp.

Club are looking at this an option with youth playing at Wanderers oval prior to a-league at hunter stadium.

Someone needs to tell the club that if there is no NYL then the youth team won't play at the same time of year as the the A-League. On top of that how will the A-League squadies keep fit throughout the A-League season?

Pitch was pretty poor to be fair.I walked to the far side where the 45 degree seating is & although I'm carrying the odd few pounds over it was very soft in the warm up area so one can surmise the pitch also being very soft & badly cut up especially after the lead up games.

Jaffas 3 Jets Yoof 2

Good first half average second half Jaffas deserved win. Ref a sucking peabrain. Blew whistle all day for minor shut and let some of the serious shit slide

Jets took a lead after 10 mins through McDonald
Jaffas equalisers after 25 mins after Jets keeper decided to dribble in the box.Either Palozzi or Maj dispossessed him.I thought it was Palozzi and tapped into the empty net

Jaffas up 2-1 cracker of a strike from inside left channel into top right corner from 25yard

Jaffas 3-1 on HT Maj with a header after good work by the Korean?? I take it playing RB for Jaffas who got a cross in to the moneyzone

Michael Kanta came on at HT and scored with a cracker from outside the box a couple of mins in the second half

Plenty of chances mainly for Jaffas after that but no more goals.

Bridges came on for the last 25 mins

From that display Jets Yoof will be highly competitive. Grade A brain fart changed the game. Lost Crowley to injury after 25 mins and struggled in attack as his sub didn't really get into the game at all after that so assuming he is not gone for too long and they get the additions of Pavicevic Lundy Cowburn etc will be highly competitve

Also the cross for majarovski header was a cross from the left.

The pitch at Lambton was very difficult to play on also.

Once again the jets respecting the competition by playing the u/19 keeper.

They were down by a goal yet the coach didn't change anything until 5 minutes to go, must be a stubbins muppet.

Got there just before half-time. Jets showed some signs but were mostly outplayed. M Kanta's goal was pretty good though. Good to see Maj on the scoresheet and thought Bridgey should have scored as well. Missed a couple of chances and hit the post. Good victory for the Jaffas. I think the Jets Youth will come good.

What you carrying on about?? Solari is most likely not available until the HAL finishes as he is needed as back up to BK

The kid sure as shit ****ed up the first goal. The other two not his fault. The rest of the time he looked more than adept. His kicking needs a bit of work but he is 16 I think and he got down bravely at the strikers feet and shows promise for the future.

Disrespecting the comp?? FFS they can pick any kid they want and there was nothing uncompetitive about the team they put out. They were beaten by a better opponent on the day who incidentally are no ****ing mugs themselves hence why they won the comp last year

To say the Jets are disrespecting the comp is wrong.

Finished 0-0. Both sides missed a few chances. Thought Danny Ireland was great in goal for Hamilton. Can't comment on the offside call as I was up the other end but all in all I think it was a fair result. Also other results were Southy 2-2 Maitland and Adamstown 0-0 Weston. Draws all round today.

We were sitting in line with it. Terrible decision from the referee. The Olympic player who scored ( not sure of his name ) was standing a metre behind one of the swans and had the ball played in front of him. The linesman had awarded the goal

Was at the Maitland game yesterday. I thought after watching Charlestown and Edgeworth on Friday that both these sides should finish well above Charlestown. Maitland did well in the first 35-40 mins and deserved their lead. From there on I felt Southy were dominant and particularly late on in the game could have won it. Entertaining game - Matt Thompson was good as was the number 10 for Maitland, maybe Maguire??? The Korean lad looks more than handy and certainly had some nice touches. Was also impressed with Southy's young keeper who made some good saves. Decent crowd for both sides too ForeverRed. I'm really pleased Maitland are back in the comp - both sides will surprise some of the others I think.

I suspect you could be wrong. Have seen edgy beat Olympic and Southy in the ffa cup and they will definitely be a top 4 side this year. From all reports they could have beaten azzurri by 8 last week and at 1-0 they had a player sent off after 30 mins. Now I know azzurri later had tull sent off but while edgy were playing with ten men they progressed the score from 1-0 to 4-0 before Mr Tull was showm his red card. Mr Zane has them playing very well and with no commotion from the bench from Mr Wilson or Mr Foley. Could be the eagles year

Maybe they should have scheduled the FFA cup this week so it was a bit more even, having a four day break compared to 2 makes a hell of a difference, considering the next games aren't due until 20 June I'm not sure what the rush was to have them played, typical nnswf , anyway good luck to those still in the cup

South Cardiff Vs Jets Youth
First Grade: 3-3. Jets looked like they could've gone to the cleaners when they were up 3-1. Nothing was falling into place for Southy who had a few good chances. Southy dug in got some goals back to make it 3-3 and looked the more likely to get a winner.
23s: Southy 3- 2. Southy came home hard after GVE's gave up a 2-0 lead. (GVE: "I wish he'd have scored then to punish you for that bad decision") How he is in control of our Elite Youth astounds me after listening to him.
19s. Jets 2-1? maybe.

Additional point, the fact a Club Referee is being used in NPL U19/22s to run lines is ridiculous

And how would you fix this problem? State league refs need to have at least 1 centre across the NPL, NEWFM, WPL, and ZLs. That's 35 refs needed for just 1st grade alone. You add 2 assistants, there's 105 refs for first grade, throw in lower grades, and thats a lot of refs, which state league simply doesn't have.

And you can't have the junior branches filling in, their first responsibility is to the junior comps, junior NPL/WPL and NEWFM 17s.

Amen. Clubs need to look at themselves for the answer here. Go watch a neutral NPL match day and see the crap dished out. Either clubs are happy to pay the refs more or they need to assist by providing club referees. Ground officials are almost a waste of time. Unless someone else can come up with a better logic?

Playing decent teams this year?

So the Maitland bandwagon is over already??

There is a huge gap between NPL and New FM

Yesterday watched Lakes v Valo and for two of the better teams in New FM from what I seen skill wise would finish last and second last by a long way if the NPL was expanded to include them and the other 10 NPL teams now.

Maitland may well make the grade at NPL level but they are gonna be severely tested week to week not like last season when they can roll up and thump teams before knuckling down and working hard to battle past Valo. Their players are not gonna find the same success and are gonna be tested and exposed from time to time

Seriously. The ejets parents, players and coaching staff are a embarrassment to society, explains y we get the wooden spoon, get rid of them, clubs need to unite and send them packing

Of what benefit are they to the NPL?

Spread those players through the clubs and the competition would be better as a whole.

You obviously weren't at the gane champ. Maitland bossed the first half completely. Magic barely got a touch in the middle of the park. Scored two opportunistic goals. Second one a cracker from faj.

Maitland never recovered and magic finished brilliantly. Never seen a score line so unreflective of a game though.

Unfortunately we should be able to expect more from this guy (behaviour wise) in his role with the EJ and due to his background. I have also personally witnessed him involved in mocking opposition junior players and kids who used to look up to this guy are now seeing the ugly side of football management displayed by him. http://www.newcastlefootball.net/forum/images/smilies/wanker.gif

It's always about winning. Every club wants to win. Some clubs are financially stronger and are able to acquire the better players. That being said, the purpose of the points system was to minimise that and it has failed miserably (Adamstown have bought in 10 new players and are still under - I'm not saying it's a bad thing either). The reality is that if you promote both Lakes and Valentine and have no relegation you are still going to have the massive gap.

It's obviously costly to be promoted to Npl from new fm and I don't think you can achieve all your clubs goals in one year I would like to see both valentine and lakes in the Npl and no relegation, I think this would see less movement of players, players won't have to chase that Npl spot of there club is relegated more positions with more teams in the Npl for our up and coming juniors but of course if a club becomes unfinancial make the offer to the club at the top of the new fm comp to join the Npl.

Edgy weren't too far off in the first half but lost it in the second. They should have been down to ten early on when the goalkeeper took out a Magic player. Last man should always be a red regardless if it's the keeper or not. Dino Fajkovic found the net again after his haul last weekend but Josh Evans equalised before half time for the Eagles.

Second half was nearly all Magic. Two goals to Kale Bradbury and a penalty for Peter Haynes. Field was really choppy as expected but the play was entertaining. Both teams had strong periods but Magic made the most of theirs.

It is only Newcastle grounds that have been blanketly closed by Newcastle Council the morons. Lake Macquarie council has left it up to the clubs, apparently the clubs in the lake Macquarie area are more grown up and make decisions by themselves

Went and watched all 3 grades.

2-2 in 19s
5-1 Jets in 22s
1-0 Jets in first grade

apparently GVE fronted the players after his rant and apoligised to the 22s

He would be pleased to note that tbey scored 2 goals from corners today when one one of his fuse melting gripes the other week was them taking long corners and not ahort corners as he demanded.

The irony that the first 2 goals the 22s scored were from corners banged into the 6 yard box was great.

As for the Jets 19s **** me. Someone really needs to explain how these kids are the best in Newy cause they don't show it. Touches terrible and a disgrace if that is the best Newy offers.

First Grade was a scrap in deteriorating conditions. Hard to get a gauge on either side. Jets got the goal when a shot was parried and snuck over the line. Had to play with 10 men for the last 20 when was it Pappas got a second yellow.
As for Pavicevic can someone explain to me how he got a 2 year Hal contract?? I have NFI

Scores 1 goal in Hal and gets a contract? You wonder why the other local players have the shits when yet another Sydney regret gets a senior contract. Locals again used and abused. Total disgrace. If anyone has watched consistently either the NPL or NYL questions should be asked.

is this a good choice??? what experience does he have in a full time coaching role? from what i have heard, he has only been reserve grade and assistant coach to the 1st grade team in New Fm comp.... i think this all comes back to a poor initial choice from the Maitland club in their coaching choice, not a good start to life back in the top flight

Well i guess we see talk on here about coaches being recycled throughout the NPL each season so where's the harm in giving a local coach, and in Maitlands case, a kid who has grown up playing alot of football for the club, a chance to make his mark on a club he loves and a competition that needs better coaches. From what we've all read, he's pretty much been running the team so far as is. I for one wish him the best but I guess just like any coaching job we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Weston beat Southy 2-1

Weston had a bloke sent off just after HT
Southy were lucky to not have 2 studs up diving in challengers joining him

Weston controlled first half and even though they had 10 men nicked a goal with a rare foray forward and then controlled much of second half.

Southy ball movement far too slow and offered little for most of night. Did get a header hit the bar and bounce down to line but correctly ruled no goal and a late 1 on 1 which Weston keeper made a great save.

As for FR's drainage sucking stellar work. Pitch was fantastic. May need to look at a bit of extra work on the South west corner which looked a bit iffy though

Said thing is, I think he's considered one of the best.

Will be interesting to see how Bates and Kenneth go this season. Both are quality, but seem to be more interested in having arguments with each other. Bates having a go at the young 14 for buds wasn't a good look either.

Ref at Ulinga was also shocking.

Lost control and if it wasn't for Weston being at 10 men and seeing a win and shutting up would have had another 20 mins of mayhem.

Let 2 studs up aggressive lunges go with yellows

Agree both were very good. Bates second goal was one of the best I've seen in this comp for a while. Kenneth was strong in defence and will be one of these most crucial players if they want to succeed this year. And yes the whole yelling and arguing was a bit much. Cooler heads always works out better, especially when dealing with younger players.

Agree FR, as a neutral it was good to see Southy trying to play, but as is often the case, when a team sits and parks the bus, ball movement slows and frustrations became very apparent.
