This all started when the double-eff-aye knifed Con.
Bloke treated his players like royalty.
They were like his children.
Suits are getting what they deserve.
**** em all
Rose coloured glasses...I had some professional dealings in terms of tax and super with Con's entities. He would not pay super sometimes until the threat of court action and even then not until the 12th hour.
I think it was the main reason Covic bought out his contract.

When the FFA gives the clubs the money for paying the players anyway you could argue they could control the entire situation for all player payments wages super entitlements etc.
They could cut the middle man out and pay the players themselves
By passing the money into the clubs to do it the problem is one they could avoid
Secondly they gave the fat **** control of the Jets.
They brought the shitfest upon themselves.Clean up the mess pay the players and stop ****ing around
That would have to be the weakest argument ever.
Furns is bang on the money

Looks like walking around those Westfield centres has successfully brainwashed you.
The superannuation industry is one of society's modern day cons (pardon the pun). Ask Dunster, he'll word you up.
Con refusing to pay super was his stand against the 1%ers.
Bloke was fighting the good fight for the worker and no one gave him credit. As soon as the double-eff-aye took Cons licence away the GFC hit.
Coincidence? You be the judge.
Also, Covic only left because they banned smoking in pubs in Newy. Pretty sure he only went back to Sweden coz you could still have a gasper at the bar.
Check it out I'm sure it's on his MySpace page.

EXCLUSIVE | The former Newcastle boss is sick of listening to critics and claims statistics show he had the Jets ready to fire this season before being sacked
Former Newcastle Jets coach Phil Stubbins has lost patience with negative claims about his management and reckons the club has hardly improved in the 2015-16 A-League campaign.
The proclamation by Jets winger David Carney in November - but featured in a piece on Goal Australia last week - that "training was walking pace" under Stubbins has inspired the latter to speak out for the first time since he lost his job at Hunter Stadium.
The 53-year-old coach, who led Newcastle to the wooden spoon last season and the club's lowest ever tally of 17 points, argues perspective has been lost as pundits compare his Jets side to that of Scott Miller.
Miller's Newcastle have not scored in their last five A-League matches, and their nine-game winless run sees them sitting eighth in the table ahead of Saturday's clash with Sydney FC.
Stubbins reckons his last six matches in charge show he could have hit the ground running in 2015-16.
"I left Australia almost immediately after the conclusion of last season's campaign and had agreed with a marquee player during my time spent in Europe, along with spending three days with another player in France, as well as being able to choose one more addition from two further visa players identified on that trip," he told Goal Australia.
"I'm convinced that with these new additions for the following campaign that the team would have improved its effectiveness in a big way."
It's understood the "player in France" was Sydney FC playmaker Milos Ninkovic.
While Stubbins concedes "mistakes were made" during his tenure, he argues the statistics show his young side improved at the end of last season and were performing much better than the current team.
"There were mistakes made in the assembly of the squad [in 2014-15], there's no doubt about that and I hold my hand up in regards to being involved in that," Stubbins said.
"I do think that later on in the season, however - when given the autonomy to bring players in [after management resignations in January] - that I thought we did that [well], with [Nigel] Boogaard, [Daniel] Mullen, Lee Ki-je, [Enver] Alivodic."
Stubbins added: "I recognise that last season was a tumultuous year at the Newcastle Jets and one that as a first year head coach in the A League came with some mistakes on my part but to also offer that it wasn't an easy project.
"It's a tough gig - the Newcastle Jets - and the facts are that the club has struggled for the last five years without any finals football during that period.

Ffs Stubbins, let it go. You will forever go down as the second worst coach we ever had, no one will ever beat Nick Theo. These articles just show you as a whiner.
Also goes to show either Stubbins is completely lying, or Middleby was making most of the signings, which meant he had to go too. Thank Griff he did.

Sorry member, no usurping of Stubbins by Miller until he loses the dressing room and so far that hasn't happened. The players still have faith so maybe we should for a bit longer too

Theres a word I'd use to describe the agent, but it's blocked by the swear filter.
**** me, what an arrogant ****.
If I was in Miller or JP's shoes, I'd call Carney, and say "if you want another phone call about your 2016/17 position at our club, either sack your agent, or tell him if speaks to one more journo, there'll be no commission for him, because there'll be no contract for you.

Still though, under my understanding of the Bosman rule, other clubs don't have to talk to the Jets if they want to offer carney a contract when his expires? So of course Eland wouldn't know if other clubs have approached carney.
But yes, **** his agent.

Can't see David carney staying past this season.
The amount the agent is talking suggests that his phone may not be ringing that much at all.
Trying to force the jets into a decision they may not be ready to make.
$230k will get you most of the very good a-league players sniffing around the club.

Spot on..... These are predictable comments from an agent trying to get a quick contract at an inflated price by flagging interest from other clubs, real or not. The timing of these rumours, just after a MOM performance to play on fan love is so obvious. The Jets are under no obligation to do anything now and are at an advantage as to let him go now means money in the bank.
The Jets are not being fooled and Carney should indeed sack his agent - if we can spot these tactics straight away it shows a lack of cunning in the bloke.

Nah. Agent doing his job.
He's not paid to worry about you, the club or other players.
He's paid to get Carney the best deal he can.
When you all start handing back wages, giving up pay rises and never trying to get ahead in your careers then you can complain..

Wake up, he gets the best deal FOR HIMSELF, not Carney.
The world is littered with players who have left a club they were perfectly happy with on an agents say so - either promised more riches or career prospects.
Usually obvious when the said player fronts the media with stilted conversation about why he is leaving.

Why should he sack his agent??
Paddy Dominguez is doing his job properly. HE is trying to get the best deal for his client. The more he gets Carney the more he gets for himself.
It is his job is to represent Carney and get him the best deal he can.
Vicious World I know
It is the Jets job to sign him if they desire how they like.
Quite frankly I will be happy if he is gone.

Never said he would stay or go based on the opinion of fans.
I think you misunderstanding me.
I have no issue with his posturing in the media between him and his manager.
Not the best look but it happens and understand the reasons why.
My gripe is more with Carney on the park and the way he conducts himself. Yes he has some talent. Yes he is one of the best players at our club.
He though doesn't represent himself as passionate for the shirt and the club and the fans enough.
He is the one bloke who looks like he couldn't care less about the club and that grates me big time.
He doesn't even give the perception he gives a **** at times
I though don't believe we need to keep him.
Moving Forward without him to me is a good idea
Eland did not cover himself in any glory either with his quotes. Typical agent mentality and not much better from Eland. For a bloke who is meant have plenty of business acumen going for him he certainly let himself down with his comments. There is probably plenty of truth to Elands comments but some things are better thought than said. Bloke showed a poor choice of words.
Like Carney or not the last thing we need is one of our better performers dropping his bundle because our CEO and the player agent are having a spat in the media.

95% of the other stuff they don't care either, but at least they make a token effort to pretend they do, which is nice.

To be fair we are talking about the club (Jets) who froze him out of the playing squad for a season approaching the end of his career.
The fact that he stuck around and ran around for us this season to see out his contract suggests more than your impressions for me.

The "atm" above is the key. Right now, he is critical to success on the park. But if the coaching staff believe, like I do, that for the $230k per annum they are paying David that they can find at least 2 players of similar ilk then it seems like a no-brainer.
If carney was on or would accept a deal for around $150k, I'd say keep. But there's no way an aging player like himself is going to cop less than what he is on for what will most likely be his last contract as a player.

What did Eland say?? thing about no contact from the middle east regarding Carney
kept repeating that he was "not questioning" what carney and his agent claimed about contact from the qatar club but they hadn't received an offer, and that carney was "just another player" the coaching staff is currently looking at. he also mentioned a few times that the club was in no rush to negotiate with off contract players, despite the fact they can be signed by other clubs at any given second now. It all came across as very condescending.
any ceo with his head screwed on would have just said something simple like "we haven't received an offer, but david is a great player and we'd love to keep him. Our coaching staff are working through a process of recruitment etc."
Additionally, admitting the club hasn't even given the players a phone call about their interest/lack thereof for next season is a joke. All off contract players are able to sign a contract with another club without consulting the Jets.

Riise is 35 and a grub sick of jets signing old players for too much coin. I even thought Heskey was a waste of money. Would find it very hard to get behind Riise even if by some miracle he signs and plays amazing. This could be because of my bias against any player cept for Kewell that played for those idiot scousers but would rather get a young aussie left back with olyroos experience or a-league experience

No way could we afford him.
Marquee LB? you blokes are ****ing crazy.
Why are stupid cvnts knocking players from epl teams because of their previous association. Liverpool? so what who gives a shit, why do we care.
tbh the chances of us getting riise or any other competent player is quite low. We know where the real problem lies.
Lets just keep talking about changing formations cause that will get us from the bottom to champions.
Lets just keep talking about changing formations cause that will get us from the bottom to champions.
Worked at the weekend with the 4-4-2
Stick with it and this time next year we will be Champions
Has nothing to do with the players
Our entire predicament in the last few years is solely based on us persisting with a 4-2-3-1 shit
Look at how we went when Jeffers came to the club and we went 4-4-2
We win games
Its all a conspiracy
4-4-2 All the way

Ok correction for you.
Semantics here but your words were that you don't want to "waste" money on 35 yr olds, not take a isk".
Now...
The comparison between Cole and Riise.
Cole trained and sat on the bench in Italy, Riise played a full season in Greece and spent 3 months in India where he also played the full season.
Cole has had regular injuries in the last 3-4 years, Riise has rarely been injured long term in his entire career.
Cole is and outright LB, Riise can play both LB and LM.
Riise has played more Football in the last 4 months than Cole has in the last 2 years.
You tell me which one would be a "risk" also tell me who you think the cheaper of the 2 would be?

“I did see the comments (re Chinese interest) across twitter on the weekend. I saw there was a reference specifically to a club in China (Jiangsu) and that is absolute news to me. I had never heard of that club before, let alone it be linked to the Jets.”
Just some idiotic comments made by our makeshift CEO. Annoys me to see us spruicing this small town small club bullshit. Whilst ever this is happening we will forever be rooted to the bottom of the table. Aligning the Jets with the Knights was THE worst move this club has ever made.

On behalf of our Members, players and staff the Central Coast Mariners have today issued a formal complaint to Fox Sports Australia and Football Federation Australia in regards to inappropriate comments against our Club and players following our most recent match against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The Mariners have been inundated with Members expressing their concerns and demanding that the Club takes appropriate steps to ensure that the integrity of the Mariners and its players are protected against unwarranted and totally unfounded comments.
This was also raised officially by the Club’s supporter groups who recently held meetings with Mariners Chairman, Mike Charlesworth.
The Mariners will be updating our Members on any formal response we receive from Fox Sports Australia or Football Federation Australia on the matter.
Any Member wishing to express their views are encouraged to contact the club via email on memberships@ccmariners.com.au so we can contact you directly to discuss your concerns.

He was saying Monty should have not made the attempted tackle because of who it was. What a load of shit. I'm not defending the tackle it was bad and got what it deserved but to say you don't go hard because a player has been seriously hurt in the past is bullshit. If he gets to double figures with this team and becomes the third (or better) top scorer in a season with the Jets it really is a no brainer - play to his strengths rather than, what we usually do, get a striker to adapt to a "style".
Wilso8948

An O/S striker who arrives with almost no English and family still back in home country. Has to adapt to the league and still provides 8 goals with 9 games remaining in a side with lack of creativity or service. Also comes in under the salary cap and likely to be on average coin in the squad... To me its a no brainer. I would also have said this prior to the weekends game.

Having a Malaysian team in the A League will do nothing for the development our game here. Having one team from NZ, okay fair enough as there is a lot of cross-over between Aussie and Kiwi players which is good for both countries but this is as far as we should go as far as allowing foreign teams playing in our comp.
Knowing FFA they will just look at the $$$ and not be able to see the long-term repercussions that this could have on the game.
The end result would be a whole team which is not playing or developing local players, seeing the plan is to play all local Malaysian players....yet old NSL clubs like South Melbourne in particular who have shown interest in the past of being part of the A League keep getting knocked back.

A-League is in crisis at the moment IMO
Ratings are pathetic compared to NRL, AFL, BBL, even the WBBL.
The next TV deal was meant to secure the future of the clubs, but with such poor ROI for Fox, it makes you wonder what the next deal will be.
Meanwhile crowds and largely down, and the league has no significant star power. The Socceroos cannot be expected to lift interest in the HAL either, as the NT is in decline with the GG gone bar for Timmy who's the only person carrying the NT at the moment.
As usual the large grassroots support for the code means nothing at a commercial level, and the FFA only uses grassroots as a money spinner anyway with no $$ coming back down the pyramid.
The momentum of the ADP s1 and arrival of WSW has been lost and the HAL seems to be lurching towards another dire season akin to that of GCU's last season. The CCMs aren't much better than either the NQF or GCU, despite a solid on-field record for 10 years.
We need a circuit breaker, either in the form of a big name marquee in the league or some additional interest via promotion/relegation or new clubs. Its stagnant at the moment and the only time we hit the news in a serious way is for crowd misbehaviour.

If you combined playing style + results + potential I'd put the current era only behind that '06 team.
Plus compared to 2010 we are a much better team so that's why I objected to your use of the word 'decline'.
(Of course all arguments based on my opinion).

We are top of our table in qualifying.
We finished same points after 3 pool games at 2006 and 2010 World Cups, you saying teams were equal?
You prefer Pim and Holgers' way of playing vs Ange? Cool if you do. I don't.
Players in big leagues? Not sure that's a measure of any team success or else countries like England would be much better yeah? All their top players play in the biggest league in the world don't they?
How many leagues do you consider 'top leagues'?
I'm not arguing youth team results. From brief memory do we ever have success at both levels at same time? When we were making semis of world youth cups pretty sure seniors were still missing out on WC qualification.

Crisis is the most overused term in modern sport.
And despite the boycotts and how unsafe it is for families (apparently) the crowds are averaging 600 less than last season, there's a Sydney derby this weekend and the run in to the finals is coming up, so crowd numbers aren't in "crisis"

the a-league needs to be able to stand on its own without gimmicks and marquees.
the standard of football is probably the best it's ever been in this country and the crowds have been solid if unspectacular.
fair point about ratings but hopefully that will grow.

In terms of 'marquees' and 'big names' the FFA needs to do a much better job of advertising the talent we have rather than chasing a name elsewhere.
Fornaroli* is as good as anyone who's played here, same with Broich and Berisha.
We need to celebrate those blokes better rather than sit on our hands til the next ADP/Heskey comes along.

Newcastle Jets: Northern NSW Football recalls David Eland from A-League job
NEWCASTLE Jets chief executive David Eland will step down from the role at the end of the A-League season.
Eland, who has been acting in an interim role at the club since August while maintaining his position as Northern NSW Football chief executive, said on Thursday that the NNSWF board had asked him to relinquish the A-League job.
“My board has drawn a line in the sand at the end of the current A-League season,” Eland said in an interview with the online Daily Football Show.
“They’ve been extremely supportive since August, but they’ve determined that at the end of the A-League season they’d like me back in my Northern role full-time, which is fair enough.
“At that point the FFA’s going to have some decisions to make whether they appoint another interim or whether just try and make do until at least they know what’s going on with the ownership.”
The FFA is trying to negotiate the sale of the Jets, possibly to Chinese businessman Martin Lee, after taking away Nathan Tinkler’s licence last year. Eland said he was not directly involved in those negotiations but reiterated that the most important characteristic of any future owner was that he was prepared to invest in the club.
“The good news for the club is that there is genuine interest in the club, which is great,” he said. “I’m well aware of the reports around Mr Lee being in Australia etcetera and showing interest in the Jets. Certainly there seems to be a real interest in football, which is great, and a preparedness to invest, which is even better . . . .
“There’s been a concentrated effort to get back engaged with the community. It’s so important that any owner understand that and they are prepared to continue the great work that the club’s done since the licence was taken away from the Hunter Sports Group.”
Eland said the club needed an investor who could take advantage of all the concessions available under the A-League salary cap, although he said the Jets would exceed the cap this season.
He told the Herald that the sale of defender Lee Ki-je had allowed the club to sign Morten Nordstrand and Steven Ugarkovic and shift wages for Ben Kantarovski and Ben Kennedy outside the cap under the concession for home-grown players.
But the Jets did not have enough funding for marquee players and operated with an off-field staff dwarfed by most other clubs.
“Leave the football staff out of it, there’s a staff of eight that are running this A-League club. The staff at other clubs would be three, four times that, so there is investment that is required off the field. It’s very fair to say that the club has not been resourced adequately for a number of years.”
“We want to service our sponsors better, we want to service our members better, but that all comes with resources.
“On the field, clearly without marquees it is difficult to compete with the powerhouses.
“There’s also so much more we could be doing to support the players that we have by improving their training environment, by being able to invest more in all the high-performance programs and services that other clubs have access to.”
Eland said he was preparing a strategic plan for the FFA, but “ownership’s going to have a big bearing on that”.
“An owner that comes in will have their own ideas,” he said.
Eland said the club needed to offer more to fans on match days.
“The other strategic pillar that I suggest the club needs to invest heavily in is entertainment. We need to provide a better match-day experience for our members and fans.
“Clearly all the research shows that when fans are coming to football or any other sport, they’re looking for an event.
“They want to be entertained from the moment they arrive. That comes with investment.”
He said the Jets would hold a second round of member and fan forums at the end of the season to gauge the club’s performance.
“There were a number of forums held immediately after the FFA took control of the licence, and what we’ve been trying to do is implement the great ideas that came out of each and every one of those forums.
“The establishment of the Jets in Business as an entry-level opportunity for local businesses, what we’ve been doing on match days, the initiative with the RAAF was absolutely essential.
“What will happen at the end of the season is that we’ll embark on that process again.
“We’ll invite our members and our fans to join us in the evaluation of season ’15-’16.
“We’re flat out running a football club at the moment, and we’ll go back to our fans at the end of the season.”
that's a pretty revealing article. i take from it:
- NNSWFF have greater pull in the area than FFA
- our current CEO doesn't necessarily think FFA will replace him
- we are clearly paying some players way too much if we are exceeding the cap
- kanta and BK wages have not been partly funded through the cap concessions until recently
- we are ridiculously understaffed and unresourced
- they're still throwing out the forums as a sign of "engagement". i partly agree they are, partly think they're lip service

A-League: Recruitment the key to Jets rising to next level
http://www.theherald.com.au/story/3839982/recruitment-crucial-to-jets-taking-next-step/?cs=306
SCOTT Miller knows that the best coaches are also the best recruiters.
Therein lies the challenge as Miller attempts to build a roster capable of taking the Jets to the next level.
The Jets completed their maiden season under the former Fullham assistant with a 4-2 win over arch rivals Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on Saturday night.
The win moved the Jets to 30 points – 13 more than last season – and confirmed eighth place. Though a vast improvement on 2014-15, the Jets finished 11 points adrift of sixth-placed Victory.
Now comes decision time.
The Jets have improved their defence, leaking 41 goals compared to 55. However, their 28 goals for is the lowest in the league.
They have 10 players off contract, headed by keeper Mark Birighitti and imports Nordstrand, Leonardo and Enver Alivodic.
“Player recruitment will determine our success next year,” Miller said. ”It is no secret where our deficiencies lie. A number of factors contributed to that in terms of of how I structured the recruitment from the defensive phase to the attacking side. Financially it didn’t leave much in the attacking third to have an impact. Those discussions will take place with players in the next fortnight. It’s not all negative. The decisions will not be emotional, they will be based on bench-marking every performance. That is how you make good business decisions in football.”
Football Federation Australia are close to finalising the sale of the club to Chinese lighting magnate Martin Lee. The Herald understands that former Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna has been earmarked for a senior administration position in the new set-up. An American consortium headed by Jeff Von Schmauder also remain interested. FFA briefed Jets coaching and office staff last Thursday.
Miller has another year to run on his contract, but is yet to meet with Lee.
“The outcome of starting next season with a new owner is very exciting for everyone involved,” Miller said.
“It has been a difficult season, I won’t lie. It has been challenging for me in my first role, but it’s one I’ve enjoyed. I am highly frustrated with the outcome, finishing eighth with 30 points. I wouldn’t be too greedy in suggesting we could have another six or nine points with clinical finishing. I must say the playing group has been outstanding. I have been highly critical of them and very demanding of them, but I can’t fault them. Also the support from the coaching staff, especially assistant Jean-Paul de Marigny, has been outstanding.”

He was a Breaker before he was a gyppo so let's not be too hasty here Dunster. McKinna has a bit of wits about him, he may not be as bad a pick up as his gyppo past may seem, he offered to help the scum this season and they told him to phuck off which says volumes for their tunnel vision under Charlesworth (or whatever his name is), tell the man who made your club you don't need his help, gyppo logic I guess... Poljak under contract for next season. If he being released i wouldnt expect he be rushing out to play NPL in ACT when he would walk a start in the NSWNPL or NBN the day he gets free of the Jets let alone looking into other HAL offers or offers professionally OS

agreed, can't see this one making sense, no reason to risk him getting injured in a lower league

De bohun: jets sold before I go (in june)

Also a bit of tripe about the mariners cleanout.

poljak has signed with canberra united for the off season
source or link?
The only thing that doesn't make me completely laugh at the Poljak to Canberra FC rumour is that Canberra FC are a Cro club. That's the only thing making it even remotely believable - otherwise I just can't fathom why the Jerks would let him do it or why he'd want to do it.
I'd take Grant and Abbas.
Simon can get ****ed. Fully ****ed.

. And dare I say it, and never ever thought I would, but.....we need a 3rd cheap striker and Matt Simon is cheap and effective for what he does
Huh? He played a part in most games this year and scored 3 goals? 2 in one game vs gypos who have the worst defence since NZ knights. So really he scored once. Last thing we need is another grafter "oh but he works hard"....gee whizz

3 goals would be 3rd top scorer at the jets....
Seriously if you watched Sydney games you would see he barely started any games but performed well when he came on.
But I am not saying the guy is a world beater. I am saying the Jets screwed up with only 2 strikers in the roster early this year, then had to rely on youth strikers like Cowley and Pavacevoc who weren't up to it. We need 3 strikers on the books, 1 is Labi and 2 is hopefully Nobby. As a 3rd striker Simon would bring a point of difference to the other 2 strikers and be dirt cheap. Signed for min wage at SFC when Millar knocked him back.
Yet to see any other min wage strikers available with 3 goals last season
Wouldn't worry about Crowley
The club and him have parted ways.

Just because it's related to the club and it's sale.
He can set up talks but he doesnt set foot in the club.
That cvnt told his players to kill us and he taught hutcho everything he knows.

Strebre hangs up the whistle and puts the cards back in the deck.
Overall, he was a pretty good referee for the Jets.
22 matches refereed. Jets had a W-D-L record of 10-4-8
39 yellow cards to Jets players, 34 to opposition players
Awarded Jets 4 penalties, 3 to the opposition.
Gave 3 Jets players red cards - all of them straight reds. Also gave 3 to opposition players (2 straight)
3 Jets players were Marcello Fiorentini, Nick Carle and Nigel Boogaard. Boogaard also received a red from Delovski in a Jets v Adelaide match back in 13/14
Jets never lost to Perth under Strebre.
The 4 draws were only against 2 teams - Victory (3) and Perth (1)
Zads was the most booked player with 4.
Didn't we lose the game V Perth after Boogz got sent or it is not a loss anymore??

Surprising stats - I can't remember ever walking away from a Jets game that he refereed thinking he'd done a good job. Maybe he was better when we played away?
