And you?re forgetting the GD changes for all teams now as well. Anyone who had a 4+ win over Azzurri has been disadvantaged. On the other hand anyone who only beat them by 1 or 2 goals will be happy
So is this being discussed at a high level? If so Cardiff very happy, mayfield not so happy..

It won't change, the rules are applied as stated for the competition (3-0 result or Bye, same difference). Quoted below.
Team removed or withdrawn during the second round of Competition ? each
opposing Team that has played the removed or withdrawn Team shall have
the relevant points and goals for the second Round removed from its record
and shall be credited with a BYE result. Each Team that has not played the
removed or withdrawn Team shall be credited with a BYE result.

Newcastle football have made a mess of this. It only seems fair that all games are the same?
Tin foil hat, if mayfield lose and warners bay defeat Cardiff this weekend, they are through to the semis due to the fact that their loss against Azzuri was changed to a 3-0 win? WOW

Be interesting to see people?s opinion on:
1. Biggest let down of a team this year? For me so far it?s been Cardiff they signed a few big names but only have one win with many tipping them pre-season to contend for minor premiership. (Never expected much from lakes or Azzurri)
2. Biggest surprise team this year. For me it?s Croatia they started the season by completely humbling the premiers in a great match, while they let themselves down last week I think they bounce back and go on to remain undefeated for the rest of the year.
I copped some heat for this post on PAGE 36 of forums but stand by it, Croatia went on to remain undefeated for the rest of the year and Cardiff didn?t do much and were the only team to drop points to Azzurri.

100%, Myer Park was the best venue for ZL2 & ZL3. Lets see if these other clubs can produce what the Suns did over the last 2 years at Myer on grand final day.
Never been to Lisle Carr but Cessnock put on great game days. Like all grand finals, it isn't just the people running it, it is the people attending. Get a great crowd and it will be a great atmosphere.

Na, WB still on 32p, in the end they should have just made Azzurris last 2 games forfeits, that way goal scorers still all stand, Suns strikers could feel a bit hard done by, but a forfeit is a forfeit.
Who else were they playing???

How can you possibly justify the claim that Newcastle Football have made a mess of it?
The regulations are clear and have been followed to the letter.
The only entity to blame here is Azzuri.

Absolutely this.
I dont think many will forget the shade they have thrown at other clubs that have kept their clubs going through thick and thin for decades, only for them to rise and fall over such a short period of time.
Hopefully some of those involved learn some humility from this experience.

The main issue is the day, Friday night isn't good for anybody. I'm sure the crowd would be much better on a Saturday, which in turn would be better for the host club.
Personally, I don't mind that it's in the Valley, Top 2 teams are from up that way. I would have asked if Bellbird wanted to host it, we played there last weekend. Pitch would be as good as any in Zone League, it also helps out financially a Zone League club. Bellbird have always put on a good match day.
For mine, Sunday is Zone league 1 grand final day. Both ZL2 and ZL3 could easily be played at different venues on the Saturday. Just scatter First grade kickoff times.
Zl3 First grade kickoff at 1
Zl2 First grade kickoff at 4.30

The ladder doesn?t lie - they?ve been the two best all year.
That said, I reckon Kotara will beat Suns first game, and Suns will bounce back in prelim to grab GF place against Croatia. Neither team to finish with 11 on the park and Croatia to win by 2 goals

So the Premiers in every grade across all 3 zones are now disadvantaged by playing Major Semis mid week in front of smaller crowds and reduced revenue. Add in player availability compared to a weekend fixture.
Meanwhile teams 2-5 play in the best time frames on weekends in the sun with larger crowds etc.
Why wasnt one of their original plans of removing 5th place from the finals not implemented instead of this nonsense.

I guess like everyone else I was surprised by the move more then anything. Personally removing 5th place was never an option, There are some teams that have had their eyes on 5th place for some time. Removing them without playing would have been tough.
The Forecast for Wednesday was always looking bad. So Tuesday/Wednesday finals wouldn't have worked.
Obviously can't move all games to Tuesday night, given some teams would have Firsts and Reserves at different venues.
I would have moved all First grade games and the conference doubleheader to tonight (tuesday). At least get them played, Reserve grade could be moved to Thursday night at grounds that are fit for play after the rain.

Something interesting was brought to my attention yesterday. One of the more remarkable feats in recent zone league history.
The Kahibah team competing in the conference league (formerly known as 3rd grade) after an average start to the season followed by horrendous weather accumulated in quite a few catch up matches and impressively they ended the season on a 5-6 match winning streak which included playing about 5 matches in 9 days and winning them all to sneak into the finals.
Interesting that this turn in form appeared to kick in just after Kahibah 1st grade secured promotion to NPL next season. It must have been really inspiring for the Kahibah third graders having their new fm comrades able to attend matches and passionately cheer them on from the sidelines.

Never let the facts get in the way of a whinge. We all know exactly what you are inferring, and you are a pathetic grub for doing so. My son plays in that team and every player that has taken the park is registered and eligible. They have even used u16 community kids at various stages because of work commitments. Nearly every one of them either played first or ressies over the last few years for Kahibah and dropped back to conference league because of work. As those senior teams have been strong for a number of years it is no surprise that when all are available they are good.

Two comments here suggesting stacking to make finals. I guess some times it happens and some times it just looks that way. Just had a look through the Suburbs conference league results and the team scored three or more in their last game and back in June (11 games ago) and a couple of times prior. So I assume that you are talking about their last game of the season when they beat Kurri 5-1. They ended the season in 6th place and two wins out of the finals, so doubt it is what you are suggesting.

Its actually ironic that you say this because according to multiple reports your sons team are also one of the most despicable, arrogant, ill disciplined and ungracious teams to ever play in the zone league. However I guess the old saying is true. The apple never does fall far from the tree.

Sorry but that tag is taken by the red and yellow youth club in Newy. You may claim the 2nd lowest though.
with all these claims of players filtering down, which happens every year btw, I take it these movements although not in the spirit of the competition, have been applied so they still fit within the rules of of the competitions?

Great effort from Dudley finishing top of the pile in conference. Huge finals match up for them next week against Kotara or Suns

They are not playing Croatia this weekend though?
Unfortunately zone leagues peak is in the past. Next year will probably be the worst season in a long team given Croatia are leaving and a few big name players across the league are retiring due to many factors including how their clubs have treated them these past few seasons.
One thing I am interested in seeing is how Cardiff go next year. They are probably in the best position to succeed but will they? That's up to them really.

Genuinely interested why you think Cardiff are in the best position to succeed. They failed to fire this year and missed finals. They got some work to do

Mayfield, Kotara, and Uni all have young sides which positions them well for coming years.
Suns have phenomenal depth.
Not sure about Thornton - unknown quantity (for me at least). Croudace Bay will be very competitive.
Cardiff and Swansea are both proud clubs with strong history, but will need to show more than this year. Warners Bay had a tough year - the mid week games hurt - but are a great club with plenty of youth. Olympic have quality but are an older team.
There?ll be plenty of interest in ZPL and although the great Dudley/Suns rivalry is gone I don?t agree that the peak is behind us. Certainly the quality of football was higher this year than any year in the past.

Absolutely awful news.
I was President of Cardiff Juniors when Cardiff City was moved across to Evans Park by LMCC, previously there had been a bit of tension between the two clubs but Andrew was very quick to extend the olive branch and we had a lot of dialogue about how the two clubs could work together and have a relationship that was mutual beneficial. As it happened Cardiff Juniors ended up folding due to more than a few financial and admin issues and Andrew without hesitation invited us all to come across to join Cardiff City and seamlessly become part of their club.
He undoubtedly bled tangerine and he'll leave a massive hole not just at Cardiff City but in the Newcastle football landscape as well.

Suns 3-1 Kotara
Suns turned up to play and the premiers went down. Interesting Suns played with 10 men for 10 minutes only for the player to be called back on after a ref error.
Firsts
Croatia 6-2 Kotara
Kotara 1 up in the first minute after a GK error and should have had 2 soon after. Five minutes later and it?s 1-1 and the Croatia machine kicked into gear and were up 3-1 at HT. That machine continued and they put 3 more past the Tigers (one og) which was also the second for tigers after a defensive error by Croatia.
The Tigers had their chances and hit the woodwork a few times as did the Croats.
A bad night for Tigers but I think they can bounce back.
Croatia well drilled with quality. Hard to stop when they get going.
Yep. Uni no chance on a school night.
And yet?
Suns decimated by injuries fielded a very different line up to their usual.
Uni too quick and clinical.

The side that the Suns fielded last night is a far cry from the sides of the ?glory days? it looked like they were missing 5-6 from their best 11. They need an injection of youth to mix with all that experience.

It was 8 points not 11. Still a very convincing outcome and Croatia are deservedly champions.
I don?t think hunger was the problem. No Pepper, Kantarovski, Aiden Palozzi, Bozanovski, Foteff.
Take those out of any side and it?s a battle. There were a few kids on the park last night for the Suns, and they will be better for the experience, but they are not at the same level as the aforementioned players.
While the Suns core group has been around a while they have good depth with 4 full teams across the grades, 3 of which made the finals, and they will be back. They did still finish second in the league to a very strong Croatia team, so writing them off is, at best, premature.
Students v Kotara this weekend. Similar styles and good football to watch. They can battle it out to see who gets the opportunity to pull off the most unlikely of upsets in the GF.

I?m not arguing the clown throwing hand bags and being given his marching orders. Stevie Wonder could have made that call.
It started in the 3rd minute, when he didn?t have the balls to send someone off for a shocking knee cap challenge. It occurred right in front of his eyes.
The Suns player didn?t play this season as a result.

I don?t actually agree with the second red card, as the suns player hand balled it into his path before being taken out.

I realise this might be going against the grain but I think Kotara will come out victorious against Croatia on Sunday.
Would I be correct in saying they are the only team to have defeated them this season? Bogey team?
Yeah they copped a bit of a pasting in the recent finals matchup however they also went 2-0 up.

Your prediction of a Kotara upset looked good for most of the match. Kotara played the better football for the majority, but the really good teams find a way to win. Well done to the Croatia defence who were exceptional, and to Jova for another GF winning goal, but Kotara must be thinking ?if only?.
On Jova, aside from the goal he was everywhere yesterday. I know they have some big name players in their squad, but he is fit, quick, can tackle, and is great in the air.

Ironic that with all their fire power up front it was Croatias defence which has been criticised at times this season (unfairly imo) along with their GK that played the key role in them coming away with the win in the biggest game of the season.

so , what did you think they pay, for a Sessions, Cowburn, Majurovski, Van Ass, McGuiness, Franks, Konjarski, Serpa, McDonald, Carroll etc.
let's say, we just nominate for 10 players x 20 games???
$500 per game that's $100k
$600 per game that's $120k
$700 per game that's $140k
$800 per game that's $160k
now we know Cowburn isn't getting that.
if they can afford to do it, good on them.
my point is, any team, that throws that type of cash in a 3rd division comp, will romp it in and win, no masterclass coaching required
lastly, they have just offered and signed the Kotara leading goal scorer $800 per game for next year, thats $16k for 1 player

No idea that?s a question for them.
Look at a club like Wallsend who have had to hire out a venue for years on end as Newcastle Council are not supporters of the round ball game and will not upgrade venues.
Yes clubs can apply for grants but even if clubs had the funds to fix grounds council wouldn?t allow it.

Passmore or the one outside
Both are currently used for Union. Newcastle council aren’t about to evict Hamilton Rugby Club, especially given the improvements undertaken.
A share situation would raise issues around playing surface quality, given the obvious differences in the requirements for the respective sports. Driving past recently, Hawkins (the outside ground) looked horrible.
There’s clearly not enough inner city sports fields, this is a given…yet the previous council were keen to put a basketball centre on valuable green space in Lambton (god I hope it doesn’t go ahead there). As an outsider looking in, I’m not sure where Croatia go in the short term. Can they stay where they are and look to improve the surface while working with council on a sustainable venue?

In the last week or two I've seen Council workers feverishly working on local grounds with cricket pitches in readiness for the coming Cricket season. Sure we have had little rain in recent weeks which has helped but it's obvious that Newcastle Council in contrast do the bare minimum during the Football season to maintain fields up to a reasonable standard.
Jesmond Park as one example was unplayable for weeks and weeks, the grass had grown up to a foot high at one stage and yet the surrounding Park area was mowed and tidied up.
Talking with people involved with a few local clubs, no one ever has anything positive to say about Newcastle Council.

I'd say all the Newcastle Football office staff are probably hungover. Professionalism and Newcastle Football don't go in the same sentence. Funny that most 'Volunteers' Club officials would have had that posted last night or early this morning, not paid Newcastle Football officials.

Yeah, I guess you can only comment on what you are seeing. What I have seen is a few grounds where council have jumped in at the conclusion of the season to do rehab on these fields that have had high traffic through the year. I was pleasantly surprised to see it as it is generally not expected. Kudos to them when it is deserved.

Don't understand why you say "kudos to them when it is deserved"? If they have done it at the conclusion of the season as you mentioned earlier than it only reinforces the point that I was making about the Cricket season being their No 1 priority.
