That puts us at 19 dudes, with some changes made from a similar post I put on the squad cleanout
What's missing from that team is a more guarranteed starting keeper unless people are confident enough in ireland which I wouldn't be just yet, a defender that can play LB, a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder
Sanchez is worth putting on marquee money and could be a way to lure him away from adelaide who haven't re-signed him yet
Grimario

Why the **** would anyone want Murdocca? Old has been whose main attribute was stamina. If we want someone that will run themselves into the ground, we should have kept Rubez.
And you must be thinking of a different AU player... Sanchez is behind Djite in the pecking order as striker, isn't he? He's also 32. Cirio, Carrusca or Isais I would agree with by Sanchez isn't the same quality.

Sanchez nowhere near marquee, doesn't even start regularly. Murdocca no thanks either

With Lee getting signed for 2 seasons yesterday that gives us still only 12 contracted players for next season:
Barresi (injured)
Birighitti (on loan)
Boogaard
Carney (????)
Cooper
Kanatrovski
Kennedy
Lee
Lundy
Neville
Pavicevic
Pepper
Realistically you can take Carney and Birraz out of the equation so that only leaves 10. Of the players left you would seriously only be looking at retaining Mullen ,Reegz, Caravella, Alivodic, Montano and Cowburn from the Youth team. Sorry, I know he is out injured but Virgili has had enough chances over a few years now but is still basically a "squad" player. Gallagher and Welsh offer us nothing that any local player could provide. Van Stratten too, if we are "moving forward" he can't be both the back-up keeper and GK "mentor"....I agree with some of the other comments that we need to sign a decent keeper.
So if you add the 10 players I have mentioned plus the other 6 that is still a rather week nucleus of a side, so with 7 positions remaining we need at least 4 (inluding a GK) who are up there in terms of quality in the top tier of A League players to make us a decent and competitive side. Otherwise we will be looking at bottom four again. We pretty much need a top quality DM, AM and striker. The reality is though with Tinkler at the helm and Stubbins "coaching" the likliehood of this happening is zero.

That also being said we are where we are we need to be quite brutal in our squad retention.
Out of that lot of contract Mullen only on satisfactory wages compared to other CD options out there and Cowburn are the only two that we should sign.
Alivodic ??? Still needs to do more
The rest really should be purged.
I know that may be harsh but reality is we are so far behind the pace we need a massive overhaul

I don't think Regs is HAL starting quality and with Boogaard and potentially re-signing Mullen, he won't be... but I think as a local, he's definitely a good 3/4th option, especially with Cowburn coming on in leaps and bounds.
Agree with Caravella and Virgili, reckon Alivodic and Montano have a few more weeks to prove that they offer more and can lump them on the bin heap as well. And it's shitty... because I reckon both of them would tear it up at better run clubs.

Of the players left id re-sign
1.Mullen
2.Alivodic
3.Reagan
Tommyjet
01-04-2015, 02:44 PM
I think either alivodic doesn't know whether he wants to stay or jets are looking around before re-signing him.
I think there are still a few sydneyites trialling with the club that have been with us aslong as burgess(since January I think). I reckon one or 2 of them I predict will be signed, most probably Patrick antelmi to compete with pavicevic for 2/3/4th striker depending on what we do with a top striker.
Personally I know it's a long shot but James holland would surely be a bit peeved to be continually getting overlooked for socceroos in favour to mooy, mackay. Offer him decent money to come back and star at a club he knows and will play regularly under the nose of ange.
I think the mandate with mark jones coming in has been out with the slower, less agile players and in with fast and fit so think about your predictions as I doubt we will see any older players like bresciano targeted. We will need to find some creativity but I doubt it'll come unless it fit and agile too.

Anywhere on here seen any Lambton Jaffas games?
I remember a few weeks back there was a section in an article saying that Lee Ki Je was trying to bring over two of his mates from south korea who play football and was trying to get them to trial with the Jaffas, and near the start of last month they did sign a South Korean which I assume isn't just a coincidence.
If this guy was on a similar level to Lee then I would argue signing him, could help Lee play better and we could be getting another quality player on the same level of Lee if we're lucky.

I think he's gotten a few mates, gigs at NBN clubs. I know there was something about Southy, getting a player that had trialled at a few different clubs, but those clubs had no points left, leaving Southy to pick him up.

I think I read somewhere that the jets had looked at the other Koreans.
I was thinking the other day that why not try another Korean in the squad to help ki-je out and then I thought who better but Song Jin-hyung. Currently at jeju united I think. A left side of song and ki-je would mesmerise a few.

I was thinking similar in terms of going more for Koreans to help Ki Je and another Serbian to help Enver and see how that goes.

Problem with Koreans and other Asian leagues is the timing of their seasons compared to ours. Generally, the out of contract ones are the only ones available when we sorta need to sign them, ie June-ish.
Checked out Song, he is pretty much a regular starter for jeju it seems, doubt he would backtrack to an unstable jerks.
Serbians certainly are the flavour of the last couple of seasons. Someone of dimitrajavic or marinkovics's ilk in our midfield would certainly help.

This is why in my original post I was wondering if the mates Lee brought over from Korea where up to a similar quality as Lee to bypass that whole issue
From what I remember I saw an article saying we aren't ruling out the possibility of getting a marquee this season, well I'd say put that to use to get a big name Serb or Korean.

Hugo almeida, helder postiga, kenwyne jones, Scott McDonald, yakubu, Eli babalj, Richard porta are a few of the strikers of varying quality I can find coming out of contract soon. Also brice severin bikoko has been free since 2013, if we still had gve he may finally have got his man:rof:
Kenwyne Jones has turned up at Bournemouth who are currently at the top of the Championship. It is a 5-6 horse race with a few games left.

Kenwyne Jones at 30 would be one hell of a signing IMO. It was only last year that he was playing EPL and only 3-4 years ago that he was a solid 10+ goals a season at that level.
No way we are getting him.

Another unrealistic one, Hugo rodallega. Calling agent taggart
One that I feel would be achievable in our League. Whether our club or not being Fat Prick is broke
Miroslav Klose
Bloke has scored the most goals ever in a WC
Is no mug on the park and would also be able to make an ADP type impact in the HAL
HE is also at the age and fitness level we should be able to get him

I reckon if you run a stat kanta will be up there with uncompleted passes and mistimed tackles leading to free-kicks.
I got Jpool to run the stats for me a couple of weeks ago for the Jetstream podcast.
Kanta had the worst passing percentage compared to Pepper and Cooper (think he had 77% as opposed to mid to high 80s?).
Not sure about those free kicks but it's worth noting that Taylor Regan has given away at least two free kicks that have been scored from this year.
Tommyjet
09-04-2015, 06:17 PM
Probably because kanta tries to pass it forward rather than back like the rest of them. Agree his passing not the strongest but I think you'll find it's because he takes risks that others don't, personally I like it as its a break from the normal pass it back to the keeper or back two and then lumped forward. Against Adelaide we wouldn't of had a forward pass along the ground in the first half had it not been for kanta.
As for mistimed tackles he is usually making up for one of his teammates ineptitude.
Lil_masi doesn't rate Ozil either

Minimum wage squaddies, then use the rest of the money the FFA hand out for the cap to spend on a marquee.

Agree with this completely. He had trouble man managing senior players so he booted them, he won't b signing players with any kind of spine. In saying that if he does sign miraculously some decent players they'll eventually realise he hasn't a clue and we might see mutiny 2. As someone who was present at grand final 08 and know what a great feeling it was to be part of I genuinely believe as long as muppet and tinkler are here it will be another erratic year of poor results and instability.

Considering he isn't playing and only has 2 months left on his loan deal, what are peoples thoughts on if Birraz will return next season or not?
This isn't an argument about who's better out of Birraz and BK, simply just wondering what peoples thoughts are on if we think he'd wanna come back or not.
Personally, I'd think he'd wanna come back here and play for us. Currently, Varese is last on their ladder, he's getting no game time, I'd think he'd be earning a similar amount of cash. Realisticlly, his situation there is not much different to here, only difference here is it's closer to home, I'd say a better chance of either getting game time or going to a club like City who need a better keeper then they have as well as I'd think better chance of getting his name showcased

That being said I have it on good authority that Flores was baffled why Muppet signed him to Jets
Apparently they had a few run ins at Adelaide in the past personality wise and he was astounded a bloke who had such issues with him would want to sign him at a new club.

Not sure if this was talked about when we re-signed him, but general consensus seems to be that Mitch Cooper is a gun player and since getting regular starting football has been one of the better players on the pitch, especially when put in the attacking mid role over being a winger
Would people like to see us try and give Cooper continuous starting football next season since it's adequately filled and there are more dire areas that need addressing or should we look to signing a better attacking mid and use Coops as a substitute instead?

Take the 2 knee reconstructions out of it and we haven't even got close to seeing this kid at his potential yet.
I remember he came into the side in 2012-13 in early 2013 and delivered a ball with the outside of the boot to RyGriff who chipped the Heart keeper. The kid would have then had a winter in the NBN developing if he hadn't of done his knee. Came back last season played a few games in the NYL and then got hacked and done the knee again.
He still hasn't had 90 mins yet. Can not wait to see what he does when he has fitness, plays in a firing team and some of these great positions he gets into he puts in the net.
This time next season I fully expect him to be entrenched as a star in our side and not a promising talent we are waiting on to bloom
I have an inkling he may have had 90 minutes member. Only once though. I'll check it out. It's certainly a trend Of increasing minute I'm seeing which are obviously part of his rehabilitation.
I'm loving him in the side.

Newcastle, NSW
Daniel Mullen commits to Newcastle Jets until 2017
Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the retention of experienced defender Daniel Mullen for the next two Hyundai A-League campaigns.
Mullen -- who linked with the Jets in January this year from Western Sydney Wanderers -- has been a mainstay of the Newcastle backline throughout the second half of Hyundai A-League season 10, contributing strongly to the improved performances Phil Stubbins’ men have shown over the past few months.
Able to play in central defence or at right back, Mullen -- who won the 2014 AFC Champions League during his time with the Wanderers -- is the third outstanding defender to commit his playing future to the Jets in recent months following the signings of Nigel Boogaard and former South Korean youth international Lee Ki-je.
The former Dalian Aerbin man is viewed by the Club as another key cog in what is shaping up as a formidable defensive unit for the side from Hunter Stadium in coming seasons.
“It’s exciting for me,” Mullen said of his deal to remain with the Jets. “It’s a place that I see myself taking my personal game to the next level, but I also see it as an opportunity to make this Club a successful one.”
“We have great support from the fans, and are putting structures in place so that we can further things here and create success.”
Mullen added that he is more than happy with the direction the Club is going in under the current management and coaching staff.
“If I wasn’t happy with the current coaching personnel and structure then I wouldn’t have signed, so that speaks for itself,” he said. “I am confident with the team that they are putting together, and feel we can be a real threat next season.”
Interestingly, Mullen crossed paths with incoming Jets defender Boogaard in South Australia between 2010 and 2012. The duo were teammates at Adelaide United, and spent plenty of time playing together for the men from the city of churches.
Mullen said he can’t wait to link with Boogaard at the Jets.
“I played with Nigel for a couple of years at Adelaide and he is part of the reason why I was eager to stay,” he said. “His [Boogaard’s] signing shows the positive mindset of the Club and coaching staff. Nigel is a leader, and a born winner.”
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Phil Stubbins is delighted to have finalised Mullen’s stay at the Club.
“It’s very important that we sign players that fit into what we are trying to build,” Stubbins said. “Daniel has fitted into Newcastle the city, and Newcastle the football club like a hand in a glove.”
“He [Mullen] has brought some real leadership to the team already, and we’re confident that he will only improve in time.”
“I worked with both Daniel and Nigel at Adelaide and they are good, confident, humble, team focussed people.”
“Daniel is another fantastic signing for the Newcastle Jets,” Stubbins concluded.

FORMER England and Liverpool star Peter Crouch is the target of an audacious bid by the Newcastle Jets to lure a world class marquee striker to the A-League next season.
Jets owner Nathan Tinkler is in negotiations with Crouch’s management about having a stint in Australia should he fail to earn another contract in the English Premier League.
It’s understood another former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, who played for the Jets for two seasons before returning home, has been seconded by Tinkler to personally help deliver Crouch to Newcastle.

In the wake of the Crouch rumours I feel it appropriate to air my opinions and hear out the thoughts of others on who the jets really should bring in.
Im not overly excited about the Crouch move but we could do worse! though i'm confident its about as likely a move as the jets being purchased by Roman Abramovich.
The jets should focus on bringing in genuinely talented decently aged players like Marinković or Janko but i do see value in some experience. This would be my hit list if i was the big rich marn who likes horses and beers with tha lads:
(not in order)
-Mark Bresciano 35 (Currently Al-Gharafa)
-Yasuhito Endō 35 (currently Gamba)
- Kim Kallstrom 32 (FC Spartak Moscow)
- Luca Toni 37 (Hellas Verona)
Obviously we need to focus on younger players for the future but in these players you could build an era from their ageing shoulders.
Other fun ideas:
-Freddy Adu 26 (Kuopion Palloseura)
-Philippe Mexes
-Rod Fanni 33 (OM)
-Tomáš Ujfaluši (37)
-Milan Baroš (33)

If you forget the massacring of the squad early this year and the addition of Gallagher and Welsh, Stubbins recruits have been mostly good. Mullen and Boogaard next year is great, Leaky G is great and if we get Alivodic, that's a great move as well. If he can get one recruit of that calibre and then Tinkler is legit about getting two marquee players in, I don't see why we can't do what you are saying plus what Opinionated is as well. Old blokes like some of them will love coin for 4 half days of training, 27 games in a piss easy league and that's without the bonus of it being a holiday to Australia.

Getting them for the head and name is what we need and there is some young quality in the squad, above mentioned serbian newly signed korean and this mullen boogard combo would be quality. who knows might even be 4 or 5 wins a season good! that'd be something! imagine that glorious bald head of bresc sliding balls into a langky old goal scoring machine toni or even cisse! the mouth it waters.

McLaren on the radar big time, possibly a swap kinda deal that would send Neville back to Perth.
Apparently Jets have signed Sydney DEF Themba Muata-Marlow. Big, Tall Youth League CB, has played once for Senior team, Jets are stocking up for 3 at the back it seems.
Also Andy Brennan, 21 yr old from Tasmania, been playing for South Melbourne. Story mentions his YouTube highlight real, so just a classic Jets signing. But has been on trial here for a few weeks.

Cowburn, Alivodic and Burgess to be re-signed, no mention of any other returning players.
Stubbins and Co going for a European holiday.
Parents of the u/18 Emerging Jets have written to NNSW to complain about GVE, "handling the complaints in house"

Love the description of this guy....."Sydney DEF Themba Muata-Marlow. Big, Tall Youth League CB".....**** me BIG!TALL!. Could have added FAST and STRONG and we could've had the default description for a Thugby League player i.e Big, Tall, Fast and Strong!!!
Is anyone surprised re: U/18 Emerging Jets parents complaining about GVE??? Love this club, give a coach who is well-renowned for having poor man-management skills the job the head of our Youth development program!!!

Do you guys think there could be a chance we dont re-sign Taylor Reagan. Although I think he's average, he is local and stepped up when we were in he shits and was solid. However, we have Mullen, Boogs as CB, big rumors we are getting Zac Anderson and Muata-Marlow who are both CB. That's 4. 5 CB on the books is ridiculous, would rather that extra player in the front third.

Muata-Marlow is going to be the Welsh/Gallagher replacement, IMO. Boogard in for Regan.
Anyway, everyone says we are playing 3 at the back next season.

It depends whether we will be playing 3 at the back next year. I too think 5 is excessive given the squad limit sizes.

In a 23-man squad 3 specialist CB's are adequate cover, especially when you still have Kanta who can cover there and the likliehood of Cowburn being signed, another who can play there. Would rate Anderson over Regan but a big call to bring in an untried player like Muata-Marlow, another decision I'm sure which would infuriate supporters even more.

That being said everyone assumes Mullen/Boogaard are playing CB.
Maybe the plan is one of them as a RB.
After all Muppet is crackpot crazy with ideas like playing Griff as a RW and then whinging about lack of goals

Prob signing extras for the gruelling ACL campaign.
I don't know anything about Muata-Marlow - will he be a youth player as well or solely senior squad contract?
Whether accurate or not, Regan is seen to be versatile enough to play centre mid also. In saying that, in the final half of this season there were some games I thought Regan was terrific, and I definitely had some sense of renewed fan for him. But I find his good form too inconsistent tbh.
Similar to Mullen with RB - I think his time at WSW proved he is not suitable to RB but he is probably seen as an option there, particularly if Neville moves on.
I can't see Anderson moving to us without guarentees of a starting spot. Which makes me think we will be playing 3 at the back (ffs Stubbins, kill me now) with Mullen right, Boogs centre, Anderson left (or similar). Anderson is quite poor at playing out, so it'll be interesting to see how he is used.

I love 3 at the back as a formation. However you need to have ball playing defenders, Mullen could potentially do it, Boogard i think could handle it, but i don't think Regan/Anderson could handle the pressure. Gallagher would be horrible. Potentially this could finally mean that Kanta moves to defense, it would suit him better than midfield.
Leaky G on the left with Cowburn on the right would be good. need backups for them though.

Just thinking about some of the younger players on the team.
Barresi and Lundy
Both have Senior contracts but still are eligible for the youth team.
Crowley
I would imagine that Crowley would have 1 more season in the youths.
Pavicevic
Has senior deal and will be a back up ST next season.
Cowburn
Has shown that he can compete in the A-League, will be here or at another team next season.
M. Kanta and Burgess
These 2 however, both are too old for the Youth team. Would you keep 1 or both around as back-ups to fill 2 of the 10/13 roster spots?

If he is playing NPL this season then he is young enough to back up next NYL season.

Although we have 13 signed, both Lundy and Pavecevic are both on Fulltime NYL (apprentice) contracts meaning we have 12 spots free if we want to use them.
Muata-Marlow I believe would be signed to the last apprentice contract as he is of the right age to qualify and wouldn't leave SFC for just another regular NYL contract.
[Edit - Actually too old for an apprentice contract and NYL so must be senior contract]
Brennan is too old for NYL and is an interesting signing. Must have impressed on trial

I still think virgili will be one of the saddest stories if he doesn't make it as HAL player
so much potential yet to be realised
if he goes back to the NPL i expect him to score 20+ goals and be the best player in the league by far.
I still think he deserves one more chance.
He is also one of most genuine and nicest blokes i know (not that it should count for anything)
i would not retain burgess or cooper. Lundy can cover both but i assume both will stay and they will cull lundy.
Seriously why are we ****ing around with the prospect of keeping any of our off contract players??
We came stone motherless last and need a complete ****ing overhaul
Other than the Serb and Cowburn being a young local the rest of them need to ****ing go.
Muppet needs to back himself to find better. If he can't then he should quit
Will be pretty pissed if any of these off contract players other than the Serb or Cowburn get another contract. Now is not the time to be making decision on sentiment. Ruthless precision is needed.

Virgili has done two good things and only two as an A-league player: That pass to Heskey V Scums, and that goal he scored from that wonderful pass from the Florist in trial game V NIX......not good enough........No contract.

When you look at the top four sides and the quality they have and then you look at the remnants of our squad, I have to say I agree with you Member.
Alivodic has consistently got better with each week and has the end product that we need i.e scores and creates goals.
Cowburn has shown with limited game time that he is up to this level and has been a very consistent performer in the Youth team for 2 years so he deserves to be rewarded with a senior contract.
Maybe Reegz should be kept but when you think that he has been around for what 4-5 seasons now, has he really developed into the player he should have by now and cemented one of the CB spots?
Yeah we may as well get rid of the rest of the off-contract players.....a precedent was set back in January so might as well go the whole hog and have a total clean-out!

I think Travis Cooper has shown glimpses of being a quality attacking player. He made some great runs in behind the defense against Roar and that cushioned header for Montano was great. He similar to Pavicevic but probably has more pace but less strength. No idea about either of their finishing ability which is the important factor but i think we should keep them both.
I still haven't watched the Roar game but everything I've seen and heard about Travis (I'm going to call him Travis, and leave Cooper for Mitch Cooper, to avoid confusion) is that he is terrible. I'd hate for us to fall into our usual trap of giving useless players contracts on the basis of one good moment they did in a game.

100% agree. But i reckon he might have a bit of a football brain on his shoulders, instead of running for the sake of running he seemed to be making intelligent movement. We've lacked that in recent years. Heskey knew where to run but didn't have the legs. Taggart knew what he was doing and even with not great service managed to put 16 or so away. If we revert to a 3-5-2 i think Travis could be apart of that top 2.
