Not 100% sure but I think lustica and ugarkovic are cousins.

To me these decisions aren't based on a desperate urgency to address the immediate fact that we basically can't score goals. I think if you asked any Jets supporter, 95% would say our priorities are a striker and a #10, as these are 2 positions which are so critical to a teams potency in front of goal and the lack of depth and quality in these 2 positions is easily the worst in the whole A League.
If another week goes by and we still have not signed either a #9 or a #10, I think every supporter is entitled to ask of Miller and Eland.....
    "WTF is going on?"

Good post, I think everyone agrees. Time for miller to pull his finger out.

One thing thats clear is that good recruitment is vital at the start of the year. The January transfer market works well in Europe when clubs can buy in to fix whatever problems needed.

But in the A league its a different mater. The salary cap means its hard to fix any major problems like the jets have. Clubs can only really get free agents, no decent players will get released from contracts for nothing. This is the case with Clut, why would Brisbane release him?

The other problem is that clubs cant really afford to get rid of players as it still counts against the salary cap. So a player like Leonardo that is unavailable most of the time takes up a spot and money on the roster. Therefore recruitment at the start of the season is vital.

Basically Miller has had weeks to work on bringing in players. He has one foreign spot to fill, that should have been the easy one as there would be loads of foreign free agents after the end of leagues in asia, america and sth america. Clubs in Europe would also be looking to offload players to reduce wage bill and bring in their own new players.

The Australian recruitment would have been a little more difficult. But there are many australians abroad in lower leagues, some struggling for game time.Even state league players may have done a job. Miller should have searched hard and wide and had players in now.

i love this thread solely for the hope in the voices of the people as we whilstfully type names that we think will be stupid enough to come here.

then when we end up signing Hoffman 3.0 the despair (whilst hilarious) makes me feel sad for you guys.

your hearts are in the right place, and you are good people. but make no mistake about it, this team hates you and delights in crushing your soul.

Miller is probably too busy with league games trying to snag a win, to be spending time scouting worldwide.

Given that we have no support staff there's no else to do it either. You're asking too much mid-season.

Virgili would have been worth the risk. Would have come cheap and left majority of free money for foreign striker or no 10.

Virgilli's success at state league and NYL level demonstrates just how much of a leap it is into A-league. He's a very talented footballer but unfortunately not talented enough.
He's also proof enough for me why we shouldn't be wasting our time trialling, let alone signing players without solid records at A-league level or better.

The fantasy of extracting a future A-League star from the lesser leagues may be exciting but the reality is you will waste far too much time and resources on what nearly always turns out to be a massive fail.

Virgili has some good qualities as a footballer and will probably tear up the NNSW NPL but at A League level there is just not enough "end product". This as a club has been our biggest and continues to be our biggest downfall....signing players who don't provide that cutting edge you require in the front third to basically score goals or provide assists on a consistent basis. Victory has about 4-5 of these players (Berisha, Finkler,Barbarouses etc), City has at least 3 (Novillo, Mooy, Fornaroli), Roar has 3-4 (Broich, MacLaren, Borrello etc) and so on and so on. Who have we got, maybe Carney who in half a season last year provided some regular assists and even this year is probably the only one who can knock in a quality delivery or free-kick.
Virgili unfortunately had some shit coaches in his development but you can only judge him by his performances, yes he would come cheap but he will not make one iota of difference to this side.

Virgilli certainly has rhe talent. I don't think theres any doubt over that. He probably hasnt taken his chance at A league level which is left him back at NPL Level.

I read alot of guys bagging the likes of Virgilli and NPL level players. But seriously where are the jets going to get their players???? Heard of the salary cap??? I say use the money and get a good foreigner and give a young aussie kid a go.
