Looks like the JobKeeper legislation is just a payment to employers to cover a workers leave entitlements. The Employee uses up their leave entitlements, employer applies for jobkeeper payment and then uses that money to reimburse themselves what they paid in leave entitlements to the employee.

The Employee receives absolutely nothing they weren't already entitled to and has their annual leave exhausted in the process - lowering the costs of firing them substantially.

The stimulus package was not for rank n file people though

A few bribes thrown in here and there but the vast majority of it is Grand Theft with money being taken from the public purse and given to the top end of town

Big Businesses are getting the vast majority of hand outs for their poor business decisions and it being written up under this Corona nonsense

Thankfully the legislation hasn't been written yet. So Labour can save everyone still.

It will be interesting to see what labour do as even though the legislation is a complete rort they won't want to be seen as blocking reforms which many [incorrectly] think are a great idea.

THe issue isn't the laws it's how police are interpreting those laws.
Police minister yesterday said Shopping at Ikea or other retailers was not essential. Yet Ikea are still open as are many other stores that sell non-essential [in the ministers eyes] items.
He then said, words to the effect that you have been warned and it's up to police discretion whether or not you get charged.

It's all policy on the run and pretty much anything you do now is a roll of the dice whether you get fined or not.

Fishing is no different in that it's not an essential service which means that you will most likely risk being fined or sent home if police decide to go with that option.

THe laws on all this are so vague nobody really knows what's going on - because senior ministers have come out and said fishing taking into account social distancing laws is permitted.

    It's ridiculous.

There has not been an official announcement about Jigsaw puzzles being classified as essential ?

Therefore, if you told police you were at IKEA to buy a jigsaw puzzle and they don't feel it's an essential item - then it might end up costing you a few thousand dollars.

Yep Scott Morisson quite literally said in one of his recent speeches that jigsaw puzzles were an essential purchase that his family went out to the shops for. It can't be much more direct than from the leaders mouth.
    OK

TBF to Scomo, If your gonna be stuck at home with your kids for a few months, I'd consider stuff like Jigsaw puzzles essential if you wanna keep them entertained away from digital stuff. The problem is the way he announces or words this stuff to the press makes him sounds like a buffoon

    Deleted the non-essential stuff.

This pretty much sums it up.

The way the law as written there is nothing from stopping me from having my photography studio open. Not that I would get any customers mind you.

Policy on the run by the Politicians
Media spreading piles of rumour and innuendo
Nothing being decided based on science but predictions despite all of these predictions so far being drastically off their track record is poor
Trusting medical professionals on running the economy
Was even watching something on YouTube where some guy had a video querying Merkel on why standard medical and scientific protocols were not being followed in relation to Corona

The whole thing is a farce and the chaos they are creating has to be done on purpose because these guys could not all be this plain ****ing incompetent otherwise they need a job at the FFA or the Jets

Anyone able to offer a theory on why all of a sudden

The number of cases being found seems to be going down in Oz
Yet the number of deaths is going up??

Rather bizarre that with the lock down.and travel bans in effect that the numbers of deaths are going up whilst the spread of it goes down

Fairly simple, the people who got the virus at first weren't the ones most likely to die from it.

Like any disease, it takes time to act.

Those people dying today, were likely infected some time ago. Symptoms are said to set in 5 days after transmission.
The body attempts to fight it, and either successfully kills off the active virus, limiting symptoms and other people’s bodies are unable to fight it as effectively. Some people have drawn out battles and eventually their body cannot fight anymore. Others will continue to be on assisted ventilation for a number of days while attempting to contain the pneumonia and lung damage.

So how come 2 weeks ago none of the people infected were having anywhere near the same problems??

Our health system has not been over loaded right now so that aint an excuse right now

That death rate should be pretty consistent

Why were people not dying of this thing in February and early March if the infections were here ??

25th of March we were on single figures of deaths
Now we are on 34 deaths

Since then the numbers have increased nearly 4 fold in 10 or so days

    The incubation period isn't constant.
The rate of recovery isn't constant.

It's also a case of how much exposure you have to the virus determining how severely you get it.
Therefore the more exposure someone has the greater / more severe the infections and holding all else constant you would expect the greater the chance of dying.
