Yeah I doubt anyone who has fibre to their place has too many complaints. A lot don't. I'm pretty curious as to what quality we will get in our area. The internet at our place has always been very hit and miss, due to lack of proximity to the exchange and poor/old copper wiring. The trucks are out an about at the moment, presumably we will have the option within a few months. See whether we get lucky and the shitty copper wasn't between our house and wherever they're hooking us into the good stuff.
To be fair to him and you Plague, there's a few quotes in there that sound reasonable and along the lines of "Lets take a look at things before we take the splurge".
Having said that, I firmly believe the primary reason he wanted to take a look at things is to be the antagonistic opposition leader he was born to be.
But there's also some pretty laughable ones.

We have FTTN here [Oakhampton / Maitland and can stream 4k Netflix absolutely no problems.
We were also getting around 21mbit per sec from ADSL2+ back in the day as well because we are close to the cabinet and it's a very low density area.
When I was at Belmont we struggle to get 4mbit on ADSL2 - and even now my sisters NBN at Belmont North is not even close to being capable of streaming 4k or even HD content consistently.

this Obama era proposal never came into law.
he proposed it in the dying days of his Presidency and never followed it through. Neither did his Democrat mates.
Trump essentially rescinded a law that didnt exist anyway.
And if you want the skinny on it, the law that was rescinded was about the sharing of information between some certain agencies. There were never any 'different' laws proposed. Just the sharing of information.
Mentally ill people still need to pass the same background check today that they did in the Obama days. Nothing has changed.
As for his other proposal post Sandy Hook. this has been going on since the Clinton Presidency. Universal background checks are required by law for sales made by licenced dealers. Nothing has changed there. Its the 'gun show loophole' that is the major sticking point, people still need to be licenced to 'buy' a gun from a private citizen, but the background checks are not as strict.
i totally agree that it would be great to close that loophole, but in the last 30 years about 80% of Mass Shootings have been committed by people using legally obtained guns. The gun problem is way bigger than a token law that never got implemented.
I think Trump is just as big a coward on the gun issue as the rest of them. But its the people who try to single Obama out as the "oh well he tried" guy that infuriate me.
He was, for 8 years, "the most powerful person on the planet" and did nothing on guns. he had the majority of both houses for a significant amount of time and did nothing on guns. he talked a lot on massacres, he did nothing on guns.
More guns per capita in Canada and gun crime is practically nil in comparison to the USA. I think the only way to fix the problem in the USA is a culling program more so than changes to the existing laws.
Income inequality, mental health issues..... it's a very deep rooted problem

A good friend of mine was called in to assess the drawings they were using in Newcastle / Lake Macquarie. He said a drunk three year old with crayons could have come up with more accurate maps of the existing infrastructure.
None of this was really known to anyone out of the loop so not surprising that cost estimates were so far off.
Then you have the issues of contractors like Downer subsidiaries [I think - it's been awhile] pretty much making it up as they went along and having sweet f all experience in a build of this scale.
Precisely
Guns aint the problem.in the USA
It the vast disparities of wealth coupled with the Capitalist model that sees people want stuff that others have
This leaves far too many on the outside of the dream and taking the victim position
USA has ample opportunity for all people to suceed in life
It is the Left who go out of their way with socialist iniatives holding people down and keeping them weak with people's own stupidity making it even worse
Ahhhh - was lucky to be in a brownfields area in Maitland that needed to be redone to FTTP as originally intended.
Look at this goodness as of right now.....

what's your position on medicare?
like most things, a brilliant idea and (for the most part) well executed in our country.
the problem, sadly, is that like most things, it is increasingly being abused by the people in charge of it.
and as usual, any attempts to even have a look at the way its run is met with a massive scare campaign by 'the other side' and pollies end up walking away from it for fear of being labelled a hater.
similar to anyone wanting to discuss immigration, business tax, the ABC or workers rights/responsibilities.
its the reason we put pollies into office, but they are for the most part, cowards who lack conviction to actually do anything.
