NEWCASTLE Jets are close to finalising a deal with promising Western Sydney Wanderers defender Daniel Alessi.

The Newcastle Herald understands that the 18-year-old has been earmarked for one of three spots designated for players under-20.

Home-grown striker Cameron Joice, who returned from the Australian Institute of Sport at the end of last year, is also in contention for a place on the A-League roster following the release of Brandon Lundy and Josh Barresi, who has joined Victorian NPL club Bulleen.

Alessi, a centreback or right fullback, has six A-League appearances and is captain of Wanderers’ youth team which sits second, a point behind Sydney FC, in division two of the NSW National Premier League.

A Young Socceroo, Alessi made his A-League debut at age 16 in a derby against Sydney FC in January, 2014.

Meanwhile, former Jets midfielder Ryan Kitto has joined champions Adelaide.
So Alessi comes in to offer cover in CB/RB.

Joice must have been told he will have a chance of training with the first teamers over preseason to earn a contract.

Kitto off to Adelaide as speculated.
