Tough day out at carrington today, was quite hot most of the day before a strong wind blew in midway through the second half of first grade.
Reserves got the 3 points today, courtesy of one of the (if not THE) most comical own goals ive eva seen. The Hamilton keeper picked up the ball from a long ball over the top, took his time, then kicked it straight into the head of his own defender who was standing about 3 meters in front of him, and the ball rebounded over the keeper, and bounced in.... hilarious. At the time, I thought it was a deserved lead, but Olympic finished the half strongly and couldve had an equaliser before halftime. Second half was much of the same, with Hamilton shading things, and equalising through another own goal, with a wayward shot across the box being expertly turned home by a charlestown player to make things 1-1. Both sides hit the woodwork, but Hamilton were caught on the break with about 10 to go and Charlie managed to squeeze home what turned out to be the winner. Tough result for Hamilton, who couldve walked away with 3 points on another day.

1st grade was another tight affair, with Olympic taking the lead midway through the first half. Neither side really controlled the game, with half chances falling at each end, Olympic were probly slightly on top, however just before halftime Charlie equalised from a corner after the cross traveled through a mass of bodies before being slammed home. Into the second half and the arm wrestle continued, with Charlie again scoring from a corner about 10 minutes in, after some confusion between the keeper and the man on the post saw a fairly tame header creep in. Some more questionable keeping saw a cross-come-shot squeeze in from an acute angle to make the score 3-1. And the final nail in the coffin saw a penalty converted to make the score 4-1.
Despite Charlestown playing 3 games in 7 days, Hamilton seemed to be the side running out of legs in the second half and this showed on the scoreboard.
Not the most greatest performance from the charlestown boys, but another 3 points and should set up a cracking match vs jesmond next week.
